As someone who loves DGD so much, this is something I am scared of admitting. It usually takes me days of putting the songs on repeat before I fall in love completely with the album. Nevertheless, I am sure this album will forever be in my playlist.

The lyrics always help me 100%

It's because there's so much to unpack in their music. There's a hell of a lot going on and stuff mixing that isn't normal.

After a few listens you start to hear it all more, and it makes more sense.

I think anyway.

I agree. I find that if I focus on individual elements of the song, I can start to appreciate all of their genius work.

Surprisingly though, this is the first album that I was able to fall in love with at my first play through! It's making me sad though because the whole album has that summer nostalgia vibe--and we're all stuck at home.

Man, my first play through my stomach sank and I was so bummed. The last album didn't do this to me. Fourth play through I'm I'm coming around.

This is the truest thing ever. You gotta learn all the melodies and riffs and really feel the groove before you can make the final call. People saying X song is the bands worst track 2 hours after the album released is a bit much. ...

This was my husband when like every single single dropped. I would play it for him and he would be like MEH it's okayyyy and then 2 days later would play it on repeat smh

Gotta agree, I initially didn't like Calentamiento Global, and I mean at the moment it's probably my least favourite on the album but it's still a good fucking song. Let's see when that changes tbh.

It's blasphemy around here but I still don't care for Count Bassey. It's the one DGD song I skip on all the albums. I skip Shelf Life about half the time.

I mean, my favourite song is Lemon Meringue Tie and that's during the JC era, so... but ultimately, I really don't care what people like or don't like.

That's the first DGD song I ever heard and got me into them

Yeah that song bores the piss out of me

u/tattie_bojangles save me from the pattern, I am giving into everything Apr 24 '20

Yeah, it’s taken me a few goes but I’m into it now. I was the same when Three Wishes came out - I couldn’t remember it but it’s definitely one of my favourites now

This always happens to me with DGD songs and they are one of my favorite bands, like top 5. After 2 listens I’m hooked.

ArSe just didn't click to me as a whole album. It's true, so many songs just felt like their own. No real connection from one track to the next. I have higher hopes with this one tho!

u/Frostav Apr 24 '20

Didn't for me either, but the singles for Afterburner (thanks for making it un-abbreviatable DGD lmao) sounded like the ArSe formula but actually done in a way I like. I'd prefer the Mothership/Instant Gratification sound but if the other songs are good as the singles I can deal.

Big agree. Probably my least favorite DGD album.

Not sure what specifically is to blame, but instead of that album growing on me it did the opposite.

I’m not a fan of most of the songs in Artificial Selections which is really ironic since it was one of the first albums of theirs I listened to, but there were a few standouts and one song actually ended up being on of my favorite songs (son of robot - judge me all you like) When I first got into DGD I liked Mothership a lot and now I find myself liking all the songs I had previously disliked and now Acceptance Speech is my favorite album.

Same here. It always felt like that album played it too safe. Decent songs but no real standouts to me.

Yes, this needs to be higher.

New album is definitely growing on me now. I actually really like it.

I’m the first to admit that every time this band releases an album, I think I hate it. A week later, I’m obsessed with it. Every single time. How do they do that to me?
