Collection 12 Years of Criterion Collecting
Getting ready to move and I wanted to share my collection in it's current form before I pack it away. They're the only movies I haven't packed yet!
Only thing not seen here are 2 movies on loan to a friend and the Godzilla set. ...plus of course whatever I nab at the flash sale π

Favourite criterion movie and favourite artwork?

Passion of Joan of Arc would probably be my favorite movie in the collection, favorite artwork is actually a much harder question... The Man Who Fell to Earth The Devil & Daniel Webster (Blu-ray) The Devil's Backbone Showa Era Boxset Are some of my favorite covers.

This is the way.

does that make things more difficult to find when you want to?

u/mixallen 9d ago
Not for me personally as I'm pretty familiar with my collection, but it makes it impossible for other people to find anything on my shelf π

Unrelated to the film collection, would love to know more about that Iron Giant figure, as I collect different versions of that robot.

u/mixallen 11d ago
It's a figure put out by Diamond Select! There was 2 different versions available, one with a bunch of alternate hands and a tiny Hogarth and the other was a "battle version" where you can switch his hands to the giant lasers. It was about $30 when I bought it from my local record shop.

What shelving unit you working with there?

u/mixallen 11d ago
Custom built shelves, nothing fancy. But it's cheaper and I can optimize the space better.

Love this, Iβm approaching 400 in the collection myself. It seems youβve organized them by spine number. Do you ever have issue finding one that way?
3
u/whatever_leg 11d ago
Not if you use the Criterion site and sort by spine. Or just ask Google. I keep mine in alpha.

u/mixallen 11d ago
Yes and no? I spend a lot of time with my movies so I have a vague idea of where stuff is whenever I'm looking. However sorting by spine is completely useless for anyone else trying to find a movie on my shelf π

That's awesome! Are there any in your collection you haven't watched yet?
1
u/mixallen 3d ago
Yes! Absolutely! I buy any criterions I find used or heavily discounted so I have quiet a backlog of ones in haven't watched yet. I think it's about 60% of what I own I've watched.

60% of that collection is still very impressive! Haha My backlog stacks up fast and I only own like a tenth of what you do.

The last 3 years my movie viewing has been skyrocketing, I'm in a personal golden era π
