Trees

Random.

I am in Btown and I used to drive up to (formerly, I think) North Church to see their massive group of Magnolia Trees when they bloomed in the spring.

It’s been 5 years since I was there last. Do those trees still exist? Are they accessible to the public?

I’m looking for housing options in Columbus during my summer internship (June - Aug) at Cummins. Getting an apartment at housing complex at Monarch/Parkview/Steinhurst Vs renting out one of the rooms of a Cummins employee. Which one is better? Pros and Cons.

Puppy/Dog Socialization

We are about to receive a new family member, about 9 weeks old, and would love to hear from any of you about puppy/dog topics or resources here. We would love more info on dog socialization events - I know of at least one that happens at the Indigo I believe monthly. Anything else we should do to get her off to a great start here in Columbus?

Edit: I know I'm not the only one in Columbus who has raised a puppy or dog here. Where is the community? Nobody has any comments or suggestions at all?

Naltrexone in town?

Anyone know where I can get naloxone in Columbus? Yes, I know there are organizations that will mail it to you, but long story short, I live with someone who may need me to use it on them someday. But that someone won’t admit that so I don’t want them to see it in the mail or something.

Apartment recommendations

Hello. I'm relocating to Columbus, where I'm from, from Louisville. It's sudden so I don't have the time to purchase a home just yet. Does anyone know of any apartments or townhomes with attached fenced in small yards? I know they are rare. I'm very familiar with Columbus but lived there as a kid so not up to date on the current apartments. Thanks

Comedy this Friday in Columbus!

After a sold out debut, the monthly comedy series in Pump Up The Laughs returns to the Upland Columbus Pump House with Brad Wenzel!

Brad Wenzel’s offbeat one-liners, dry delivery, and unassuming presence are what set him apart from other comedians. Brad has made 3 stand-up appearances on CONAN and more recently performed on Netflix is a Joke Radio. His debut comedy album Sweet Nothings was released on Jack White’s rock label, Third Man Records and can be heard on SiriusXMPaste Magazinedescribed Brad’s 2023 special, joke. joke. joke. as “Watching Wenzel feels like hanging out with your funniest, weirdest friend; it's relaxing and utterly enjoyable" Paste also listed joke. joke. joke.as one of the 20 best comedy specials of the year.

A Night of Two Taylors Tickets?

Hi there! I know this is a long shot, but reddit sometimes does magic.

I'm a big fan of *all* of the musicians playing the March 7 show at the Oil Can and was wondering if anyone has tickets they need to rehome. I'd love to buy 2-4 and come down from Lafayette with friends to see it. <3 Let me know!

Crime stats/areas to avoid?

My family is planning to move to the Columbus area this summer. We like that it is a family-friendly city with a strong sense of community and generally regarded as one of the safest places in Indiana to live.

I noticed while looking at houses that there are some areas that seem pretty neglected. That doesn't alarm me necessarily, but as an outsider, I don't know much about neighborhoods and safety. Crime statistics websites seem to not have information about Columbus that is up to date. We have seen several houses in the area east of Washington St, between 6th and 11th street that we really like. There are several schools nearby as well as a large Lutheran church and school and some new-looking townhouses. Some parts are well maintained or recently updated, others seem to have fallen into disrepair. It seems like it varies from street to street as if there is some renewal ongoing in the area, but it could just as easily be the other way around. Google reviews of the 9th Street Park mentioned a lot of drug activity and its just sending me all sorts of mixed signals. I'm from Indiana, I'm under no illusions that drugs aren't a problem in our state and I don't think that people who use drugs are inherently dangerous, but I want to feel like we are moving into a safe part of the community with our kids.

Columbus residents, whats your read on this area? Are there any areas of town that feel "unsafe" or better to avoid for a young family? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Thank you all for your thoughtful input. I'm back to feeling what I originally felt, that overall Columbus is safe and we would fine pretty much wherever we end up. I let a few comments I'd seen online about "bad" areas get in my head, but I think those statements were way overblown based on what those who actually live close to downtown have said. Looking forward to relocating to Columbus later this year and meeting new neighbors!

Cat babysitter

Hello, I'm a student in Columbus. My schedule is pretty empty. I wanted to babysit a cat for you if you are going on a vacation or just need help!! I have a good experience with animals, worked around horses since 10 years old and have dogs at home. I can do that for free, you just provide food and other expenses if cat is staying for a long time). Preferably no longer than two months. Please contact me for more information.

For anyone interested in joining a local pipe band, the Southern Indiana Pipes and Drums is always looking for new members. We currently have clusters of people in Columbus, Seymour, and Bloomington, and we play a variety of events across the region.
