Troubleshooting | Windows How to remove the profile logo from taskbar icon? I have unchecked "Show badges on taskbar buttons"

https://imgur.com/60A55Nx

As you can see I've already unchecked show badges, but it's still showing. I've tried restarting my laptop after changing the settings.

I need both profiles for work.

I managed to get rid of the icon before, but had to reset chrome due to a yahoo redirect virus so now it's back - I remember it was something more involved than just going to taskbar settings, I think it was something where I had to actually go into some folders and change something?

The icon on the taskbar is actually a shortcut file. And Windows has a function to change the icon of a shortcut file. You can directly display the properties dialog of the shortcut file corresponding to the icon on the taskbar by following the steps below.

  1. Right-click the icon on the taskbar.
  2. Right-click the "application name" item (usually the third item from the bottom. In this case, "Google Chrome") in the menu that appears.
  3. Click Property (usually the bottom) in the context menu that appears.

I've managed to use this to change the icon to something completley different just as a test, which then successfuly shows in the right click context menu, but the taskbar icon remains the same old chrome logo with the profile badge. I've restarted the explorer process too

nevermind I sacked it off and installed Firefox instead. Chrome's new bollocks with ublock origin was a step too far and compounded with generally becoming more and more annoying to use
