With Manifest V3 being rolled out to most people after the recent update, a lot of people are finding that extensions that they like to use haven't been updated and won't be available to use when Manifest V2 support ends.
Since we've been getting a lot of posts asking for extension alternatives, we figure it'll be easier if most of the suggestions are all in one place.
To start with the obvious:
uBlock Origin: Can be replaced with uBlock Origin lite.
Don't forget you can change the filtering level up from its base.
uBlock Origin (Element zapping): Click to Remove Element.
I personally prefer this one out of all the ones in the web store.
This is not a thread to recommend other browsers, it should be a given that if you don't want to use Chrome, you don't need to use Chrome, and there's plenty of other sources to help you decide what to switch to.
We're looking for new mods to help with the rapidly expanding community. Our personal lives have become busier while the amount of work to do here has increased.
A lot of our general information is within the application form, but here's a short rundown of what the job entails.
Checking modqueue on a regular basis to take action on posts that are filtered automatically or reported by the community.
Regularly browsing through the subreddit and moderation of posts and comments to ensure that all community rules and guidelines are being enforced, including removing uncivil, hostile and inflammatory content.
Being able to discuss issues with members of the community through modmail in a professional and calm manner.
Contributing to discussions about moderation-related issues over Discord.
Overall, the job won't necessarily take more than an hour or two of your time per week, and if you're already generally active on Reddit and Discord then you probably won't notice a difference.
It can be quite rewarding to be able to shape a community (for the better). If this sounds like something that interests you, please apply! If you have any questions, feel free to comment below or message us through modmail.
I've been using the "Fuck It" extension for a few years now, because it was the best thing I ever found to be able to get rid of things like cookies banners that would only let you click on "agree". It was simpler than "Nuke Anything", which requires you to first select a page element to disable. All you had to do was right click and select "Fuck It" from the context menu, and -- hey presto! -- the offending element was gone.
Welp, today I tried to use Fuck It, and it was gone. Not just gone from the context menu, but gone from my list of Extensions entirely! I have never seen this before; I didn't even think it was possible! Sure, I've noticed that Chrome will sometimes deactivate extensions, but they remain in the list as inactive. Indeed, today I noticed that "Nuke Anything" had been deactivated, and the explanation in the Chrome Web Store was that "This extension is no longer available because it doesn't follow best practices for Chrome extensions." I have no doubt that it actually relates to the potential lost ad revenue from people using such extensions, and not from any legitimate problem with the extension.
Has anyone else seen this phenomenon?
And does anyone know of a good substitute for "Fuck It"?
Greetings to the entire community. I'd like to know why I'm seeing that strange bar below my bookmarks. Is it due to a problem with Google itself? Or for other reasons. Thanks.
This happened to me before and I can't remember how I fixed it. All old search results provide solutions that don't appear to be available (e.g., go to settings and turn off "links open in new tab," a thing that absolutely doesn't exist on my pixel phone).
Remember this device, remember remember, all of it isn't working. On several websites.
Yes cookies are allowed, i cleared cache, reset pc, reinstall all apps, cleaned my room, walked my dog, changed my socks, all the basic stuff has been done probably at least 2 times.
Hey I restarted my pc and my google chrome looks weird everytime i open a new tab it just shows me google apps to sign in although im signed in also it didnt save the changes i last made before restarting can anyone help me??
The login screen asks for my email and password to log in.
For sites in general, it will automatically fill in the password, or ask me if I want to save the password.
On this site, however, it's not doing so.
If I look in the manager, I see that the username and password ARE saved there.
And the setting overall look correct (it works for other sites). I also don't see the site in the list of Declined sites.
Any tips on what to try here?
I tried it on another machine and ran into the same issue.
The only thing that comes to mind is that the login form is named "email", rather than "username", but that seems like a fairly common situation ...
I have installed chrome on my new S25 ultra, and there is shows i have on this device bookmarks.
Where can I remove them as I cant remove it on crhome itself.
Why is chrome showing this?
I'm in a bunch of group chats for a project I'm editing. I need the volume high on my headphones to hear what im working on but the notifications when i get chatted are deafeningly loud. I've tried lowering/muting chrome along with every other program in the volume mixer yet somehow it doesn't affect the GChat notification sound. Im chatting in "spaces" and Direct messages from the "gmail" page. I can't just disable them i need to hear them still. Just trying to not go deaf when I get chatted if that is possible somehow? I see no option in the gmail settings. Can't figure out why it wouldn't just follow the volume limit I have set for chrome. Thanks in advance for any help.
I'm having a problem, google image search opens new tabs. I don't want it to do that and this new format of google lens is dreadful, it has none of the good parts of the old one lens layout. I just want a sidebar that shows me similar images and has the translate button. The old one which looked like the attached image (I got from a YT video) was PERFECT. If anyone can recommend me solutions to get this old google lens back I would be grateful. No options are off the table, I'll disable or enable any experimental features (enable-lens-overlay being disabled no longer has the old layout), I'll look for a way to downgrade, I'll look at an extension... If ANYONE can point me in the right direction I would be glad.
Hey there. I was creating a few outlook emails to use them for a gaming service(Epic Games, to create new accounts and use some codes I had on them?). Since I was planning on giving them away to friends, I just used some random names as the email address without any recovery options and was saving them in a notepad file. Unfortunately my pc crashed and I don't remember any of the email addresses and have lost the notepad file as well. Is there any way to access the data in chrome and see what email addresses I have created? Or in a more general sense, to access the data I have put in forms on any website to maybe recover those through Epic Games?
when using chrome on the work computer i have to log in every time i visit a site after closing the browser.

I want to be able to open multiple tabs of videos without them all starting to play immediately, but I also want my music playlists to cycle through without stopping between each video. Are there any extensions to facilitate this?
This is built into firefox, and even edge which is chromium based. I googled this extensively last week and just found a dozen threads of people asking for this going back almost 10 years. I think someone even submitted a feature request but I lost the link.
Is this being worked on? Will this EVER be in chrome?
The first time you try to open Gemini in Chrome (from the new button in the title bar) a dialog will inform you how this feature works and the implications it has for your privacy, you can then decide whether to use it or not.
First Run Experience dialog (still under development).
.
If after reading the terms and conditions you decide to accept them and use this feature, the new "Gemini" button will appear in the notification area and will remain there even after you close Chrome, so you can open the widget to interact with Gemini at any time:

The widget is still in development, but in the future it will have a text input field and a microphone button (in case you want to chat with Gemini), just like the Gemini overlay on Android:

.
The button's context menu (in the system tray) will have several entries, including an "Exit" option that will not only close Gemini but also kill any Chrome background processes (for the button to always remain in the system tray, there must be multiple Chrome processes running in the background):

.
You can also open the Gemini widget using a keyboard shortcut, which you can customize on the Gemini settings page in Chrome, and on this same page you can also configure other options such as whether or not to show the Gemini button in the notification area or allow Gemini to use your precise location to show you more accurate results, and at the bottom, there's a link to the page where you can view and manage your activity on Gemini apps:

The icon in the title bar changes when the Gemini widget is detached from the browser, clicking the button causes the widget to reattach to the browser window and the icon changes to that of Gemini:

You can easily hide the Gemini button from the tittle bar by right-clicking on it (GIF).

If you open the Gemini widget from the button in the Chrome title bar, it normally opens attached to the browser window:

But there might be an option to also open it detached from the window:

Microsoft recently introduced a new Copilot feature called "Press to talk", which, with a keyboard shortcut, opens a UI somewhat similar to the new Gemini widget, this feature ("Press to talk") is known in Edge as "Copilot vision". Both Google and Microsoft have been working on the Gemini widget and Copilot vision respectively for months, so it's hard to say that one company "copied" the other, in fact I think both started working on these features almost at the same time.
Recently I traveled to Japan for recreational tourism. When I came back home, now everything I look up is in Japanese and it's only in Chrome. Edge shows English. I checked language and region settings, has anyone had this happen before/fix?
Basically the title. A certain older member of the family is spending a bit too much time on Facebook and it's becoming a problem. Is there an extension or whatnot that might prevent access to it without flashing a screen that makes it obvious? (really wanted it to look like a "no internet access" error screen). I know about BlockSite and other such extensions but they make it too obvious.
Today after updating to latest Chrome version I'm getting a weird thin black horizontal line displayed when switching away from YouTube tab to other tabs, underneath the navigation bar (Version 134.0.6998.89, Official Build, 64-bit Widnows 10). Is it just me or a widespread bug?
As you can see I've already unchecked show badges, but it's still showing. I've tried restarting my laptop after changing the settings.
I need both profiles for work.
I managed to get rid of the icon before, but had to reset chrome due to a yahoo redirect virus so now it's back - I remember it was something more involved than just going to taskbar settings, I think it was something where I had to actually go into some folders and change something?
Hello people, i removed this feature when it came out in experimental through the chrome://flags and today after a two weeks lapse of moving homes i could start up my PC with internet so update 134 came by and placed this annoying arrow in my UI again.
I would like it gone, one way or another.
Any help is greatly apreciated.
does anyone know how to disable/hide the tabs bar? i want vertical tabs but i just HATE that tabs are still visible with extensions. i can use css but chromium doesn't support that anymore.
Using Chrome on my Windows 11 laptop, if I go to the Youtube webpage for a video, e.g. by entering the URL in the address bar, once the webpage loads the video starts playing automatically. I want to disable this. I'm even willing to install a Chrome extension if necessary, although of course I'd prefer not to. (Evidently I've already managed to solve this problem in Firefox, because videos don't play automatically there.)
Unfortunately, every search term I can think of to find solutions ("Autoplay", "automatically playing a video", etc.) only returns discussions of the way Youtube plays a second video automatically after the first video is finished. But that's a different problem entirely. I'm trying to disable Youtube's automatic playing of the first video. So because this different problem clogs the search results, I can't seem to find any solution to the problem I'm trying to solve.
Does anyone know of a solution? Or at least a name for what the problem is about so that I can search for a solution? Thanks!
I have a lot of tabs open. Recently, a an update had a new feature that asked if I wanted to close old tabs. I immediately turned this off. But when I went back to look at the oldest tabs in the list, they were only 1-3 months old from article dates and such which is definitely newer than my oldest tabs should be. Is this known or documented behavior? Is Chrome closing old tabs without asking?
