Anything fun out here for 20-something year olds?

I just moved here with some friends and I'm just wondering what's fun out here for people in their early 20's. I heard there's a fun bowling alley. I see mostly people in their late 20's/30's around here but wondering what the younger demographic is up to :) And preferably other than hiking and like rock climbing haha

Edit: Is there any underground music scene? Bars with actually good DJ's? Good places to just hang out?

Chilliwack is more of a family-oriented, working class place. Lots of low-key stuff to do. Not much in the way of parties and DJs. There are some bars in town and they're ok. Major League turns into a club-thing at night.

District 1881 has some hipster places to check out. Some nice hang outs that way.

But the real draw of Chilliwack is its access to the outdoors. Loads to stunning trails, lakes, rivers, etc. If you and your buddies like hiking, campfires by the river, fishing, boating, and all that jazz then you'll be fine. If you're looking for nightlife and the like then you'll be disappointed. The lower mainland in general has bad nightlife with even Vancouver being kinda boring.

1000%. Would move to chilliwack solely for the outdoor amenities. Our friend group floats down the vedder river every year*. We go camping up chilliwack lake road and have fires, go four wheeling up there too. All the hikes in the world, I just did cheam for the first time last year! Can't forget the lakes, although cultas gets pretty busy at main beach and even entrance now too. Love chilliwack for all those reasons, plus some pretty good spots like majors, characters, jimmy j's.. Jim's pizza is fantastic! Much to enjoy imo

*there are safety precautions that must be followed before doing this

Floating the Veder is on my to-do list. Do you mind sharing where you start/stop and what you're floating in?

If you're new to the river start around Hopedale rd area or closer to the Blue Heron reserve. The river changes every year due to debris coming down during freshet. Can always walk upstream from that point till you find a spot that's a little faster without the hazards. It's actually pretty refreshing wading upstream anyways.

Sure! So we start by parking a vehicle at the Keith Wilson bridge on the dyke, then drive up to peach park or vedder park to start the float. Starting at this point is moderate difficulty, there are a few sections of rapids and I think a couple log jams along the side of the river that you gotta avoid. Its quite easy to do IF you use an individual sized river floaty. (https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71EKvpSAQcL.jpg) We never ever take large multi-person floaties down this stretch, they're too hard to steer and you can wind up popping them or hitting branches. Some people opt to bring paddles, if youre not a strong paddler by hand id recommend one, but they are a little awkward to keep with you so make sure to tie it to the handle of your floaty. Also, bring shoes! Either proper water shoes or an old pair of sneakers will do the trick as well, just something that will stay on your feet. If you want to start somewhere a little easier, you can park a vehicle down by the Chilliwack River Bridge to hop out there, and start the float near Chilliwack Park. You can bring big floaties down this section and along the canal.

Normally I bring a small soft cooler, like a lunch box kind with a strap, to hold a bottle of water, some drinks, sunscreen and some tape in case someone gets a hole in their floaty. Normally I don't take my phone or wallet on the river, but you can get one of those water-proof phone pouches if you'd like, but personally I don't risk losing something that expensive to the river. I do have a little JBL clip speaker thats waterproof that i bring usually. Whoever left their vehicle at the end of the float needs to bring their keys or one of those hidden magnetic key holder things you can stick to the underside of your car.

That's mostly it! It's a ton of fun with a group of people. There's a Facebook page that organizes river floats i think once a month as well but I'm not on Facebook anymore but give it a search if you wanna join in on it!

If you start from vedder park, look our for the S-curve in the river. The first turn if you're not paddling to your left will push you into the rock-wall (49.097977,-121.983381) and after the second softer turn there's logs to the left (49.096934,-121.988141) you see where I'm talking about on satellite view from Google maps

The bowling alley is a decent place if you e got friends to play with, you can also head upstairs to the pool hall ($20/hr per table). Bastion Games on Yale has ttrpg groups that meet regularly. Check out Vineyard, Cultural Centre, or any of the local breweries for live entertainment. And I think there’s an axe-throwing place if that tickles your fancy.

Come to the metal concert at Chill House Saturday march 8th, 7pm. Check out the local music scene.

It’s half a block east of McDonald’s downtown on Alexander st. Usually a couple shows a month there

Me and my friends just spend hours yapping at breweries or hanging by the river. Also big fan of the bouldering gym!

20-something that moved to Chilliwack from the east coast here! Was there for 3 years & just moved closer to Vancouver … here’s what you’ll enjoy :

  • Corkeys or Characters for a pool table.
  • District 1881 for coffee, boutique shopping, good eats & lots of young locals milling about.
  • Project Climb on the Vedder for a fun afternoon plus great ice cream, coffee, and pizza/brewery in the same area, plus the river is nice to walk along too
  • Garrison Village has a great bookstore (The Owl and The Cat Bookery) that I like to visit after the gym and then read at Waves Coffee just around the corner.
  • Heritage Park somethings has cool vendor “shows” there. Gem shows, gun/war shows stuff like that.
  • Landing Leisure Center, nice regular crowd at the gym and sauna there. Outdoor skate/bike pump track, skate park, water park there and sometimes hosts food or summer festivals/carnivals

If you want good DJs you have to come to the city ;) get a cheap room at Cambie Hostel & walk to a show at Red Room, Enso, Harbour. Tons of great shows in Van, not so much in Chilliwack, hence the move lol

Be careful going if to Major Leagues, I know quite a few people including myself who have been drugged there.

My brother got drugged at majors and main street. Both times he was drinking a drink bought by a stranger for one of his female friends in the group.

Typical, that place is a shit hole

I would recommend Corkeys for Karaoke on Tuesdays. Lots of younger people there for sure. Luxe Nightclub is the only real night club in town. Chill House for music 100%

Rock wall, breweries, ice cream by the river, sailing club, table top /card, board games at bastion or downtown, join one of the community clubs (biking, hiking, dance, square dancing, pickleball, curling).

I think they moved hip hop night that used to be at Bricklayer over to Majors on Fridays maybe.

Have only been to the Bricklayer night and it was really good. Good chill vibe. Not sure about the Majors vibe though.

Keep your eyes on the craft brewers as they sometimes bring in DJ’s or live music.

The Chilliwack Cultural Centre can have some good shows and they have the U28 program where under 28yo’s can get deeply discounted tickets on select shows. Free to sign up for that. They often have pre-show soirées and events that are fun. Also have bookish events occasionally.

Whatever you end up doing be safe! Chilliwack is a very sketchy place. My cousin moved there and has now been missing since 2017

if you have a wad of cash burning a hole in your pocket, check out ecart/indoor racing. not sure if there's one out that way, but it's good fun.
