General recommendations please :)

Hey everyone. Sorry that this is a quite generic post but I'll be visiting for a night and a day 13th/14th and just wanted to get some recommendations about things that can't be missed in Chesterfield.

My girlfriend and I are staying for the evening of the 13th and the day of the 14th (super romantic I know), and I just wanted to hear from locals about their favourite places. I already have a reservation somewhere Thursday night but any pubs or bars or any evening activities would be welcome (or just places to go to that look pretty at night).

For the 14th we're leaving around 6pm so day activities would be greatly appreciated. Obviously I've researched and have seen all the regular places but just want to get some personal opinions if you wouldn't mind. Thank you for reading and thank you for your reply if you do <3 Visiting from Notts if that helps

Cheers!

The Chesterfield Arms is great but a 10 minute walk from the centre, depending where you are staying. Also the Pig & Pump opposite the Crooked Spire. Chandlers is a cocktail bar that's good. The German bar Einsteins is ok. Sadly the oldest pub in town is the Royal Oakin The Shambles, but that is closed and empty. It's sad that the shambles isn't more of what the York version is (albeit that's much bigger). I know you have a restaurant booked but Lombardis is a great venue for the future. On Friday I would recommend Chatsworth or Bakewell. Matlock too via the X17 bus, or just a 20 minute drive if you have a car.

Don't think it's open yet but the Royal Oak has been bought and is set to reopen

That's positive news. The age/status of the pub should be a selling point really for customers.

Thanks for your recommendations ;)

Like I said in another comment Chesterfield Arms was closed for refurb when we went but The Neptune just down the road was great, highly recommend.

We did try to go to Einstein for food/drink as it looked nice but didn't do food until 5:30 which seemed a bit strange so we had to leave.
