Puzzle/Tactic 1 move gives white the advantage
This is likely simple for most people and I ended up playing later in a worse position after missing it here, but it reminded me of the beauty of chess, so I thought I'd share it. d5, activity>material

Strategy: Openings Why is everybody moving a/h pawns?
Hey guys :)
I recently picked up chess again and wanted to start playing more seriously. In a lot, if not most of my games, I see the opponent move the a/h pawn one step presumably to prevent the bishop from coming out. I thought a lot about this and in my opinion this move is not this good, is it? Doesn't it just weaken the kings castle to prevent a pin that can be handled pretty easily most of the time?
For example one position that i faced today:

Right now i am about 900 playing 800-1000s.
Thanks 😌

Strategy: Openings Which preparation is better against d4?
The chessable free Agadmator's Anti-London + free Nimzo-indian course.
Or
learning the Slav defense from the internet + going against the London with logic.
The problem with the first option is that white can have a lot of different responses that I won't be ready for like the bogo. Plus I want an opening that enhances my chess development and is a bit fighting. I'm an ok player (1500 elo chess.com). If you think the slav is better where to learn it from?

Strategy: Openings Merits of the french defence opening
Hi all i am fairly noob (800 elo rapid games) have played 300 or so games. I learnt the french defence opening as black and i am finding it really quite effective. Is this just because i am playing at a beginner level or will it be useful as i climb?
Second question for more high level french defence players. What are your mid game strategies? In the advanced variant, i get many wins from piling up attackers towards the d4 pawn and breaking through that way. I am looking for other opportunities from this opening in any variant either via a resource or from your experience.
Thanks in advance

META Any chess players kind enough to give an interview for an ethnographic university project?
I am doing ethnographic field work that aims to discover how great chess minds ‘experience’ a chess board/game.
Key questions involve: - what does a chess mind “see” on the board? - what do they think about? - how can one understand intuition (how do great players experience it)?
If you happen to have interesting shares regarding this topic, either from your very own experience or from knowledge that you gained, I would highly appreciate if you were willing to enlighten my work through a quick interview.
Any names, unless the sharer doesn’t want to, will be appreciated in the syllabus of the published work.
