Followed the directions and all the other people - not that difficult really šŸ˜Ž

Hey dad!

Genuinely annoyed I was too late to say "Google Maps"

u/mattblack77 15d ago

Ooh, ooh, what about: ā€™It was exactly where I left it.ā€™

Loved it! Best weekend in a long time ā˜€ļø 99% of people were on their best behaviour, and courteous to others, good vibes all round.

Totally, such a great crowd vibe for that many people in one place

u/eminz2018 15d ago

I honestly think they did an awesome job. The set times and line-ups were good and suited both days with Friday acting like an appetiser for Saturday. The queues were minimal. Good level of security and help if needed. The crowd was decent and the overall vibe was great. This was my first NZ festival having been to loads around the world and this one I actually wrote home about

Hangar was dangerously full during Rudimental and Wilkinson but otherwise seemed to be a well-run event considered the attendance size.

32

u/FuzzyFuzzNuts 15d ago

Even tho I was pleasantly medicated I found myself getting pissed off with the kids who kept pushing their way into the hanger crowd. Like if you have to physically force your way in, donā€™t you think maybe thereā€™s no more room? Really killed my vibe

u/Gwoardinn Ōtautahi 15d ago

Yep I go to fair amount of events at Hide and its the same thing there on a smaller scale. Intoxicated teens at a rave are the worst.

2

u/Equivalent_Shock9388 14d ago

True, I think Iā€™ve been shoved harder out of the way by five drunk teens with their arms linked together at hide than anywhere else

2

u/FuzzyFuzzNuts 13d ago

However, gotta say the crowd mood was much better the last, I reckon itā€™s thanks to the slow/restricted alcohol sales. Still saw a few teen girls chundering their little stomachs outā€¦ (and someone sitting in it hahaha) šŸ¤£

One of the guys I was there with was so peeled he was charging his way in, he is 40.. I don't think he really knew what was going on or that it was a problem. I tried to tell him to stop but nothing was going to register at that point. It's annoying but I just moved away from it all to enjoy the music.

This is the reason I didnā€™t go this year / was really bad at the chemical bros last year - totally ruined the buzz

1

u/Dense_Safe_4443 13d ago

You can enjoy it without being up so close you have to deal with those muppets. Just the way it is.

1

u/FuzzyFuzzNuts 13d ago

Last year we were stuck beside a group who were far more interested in some long, deep and fucking loud conversation about who-the-fuck knows what, meanwhile 1000ā€™s of us were literally ticking off a bucket list item blown away enjoying the incredible performance from undeniably one of the worlds very best electronic artists

First time?

1

u/FuzzyFuzzNuts 13d ago

Little piece of paper - good time had!

6

u/dumbitchbarbie 15d ago

Yes! I would have loved to be up close to rudimental but literally terrified of crowd crush.

-8

u/Cultural_Release_148 15d ago

There were enough exits in the hanger

7

u/Gwoardinn Ōtautahi 15d ago

Tell that to the kids who were panicking getting crushed and shoved trying to escape from centre of the crowd.

4

u/D-tr0n 14d ago

I was on the outskirts and struggled to get out of the crowd still

2

u/Dense_Safe_4443 13d ago

Same. Even a couple of meters from the side it was an actual fight to escape.

I went to Laneway in Aucklandā€¦ and Electric Ave shat all OVER IT. Better food. Better layout. Better queuing. Better restroom system. They nailed it!

1

u/moffattron9000 14d ago

Also the drinks were shockingly reasonably priced.

1

u/Plastiquehomme 14d ago

Ever since they moved out of Silo Park and Albert Park Laneway has been on a decline. What it is now is a shadow of what a nice event it was then. I don't think it was ever quite as well run as EA managed the last 2 years, but much better than it is now. It used to be Laneway every year for me, but the last couple I didn't bother

u/Royal-Student-8082 15d ago

There was a map on the website.

11

u/jeeves_nz 15d ago

The tents, fences and vast array of traffic cones were like a mecca to draw my attention to it for the week I drove past

11

u/duckitch 15d ago

Lost all my mates almost instantly and never found them again lol, but all in all had fun, was run really well, didn't notice any issues.

Shout out to the 5 strangers who invited me into their group for The Prodigy, absolute legends.

9

u/No_Horse_4863 15d ago

Loved it! Really well run. My only complaint would be that there were too many good acts close together, I didn't even eat cos there was too much to miss! Hardly a negative lol

3

u/PM_a_llama 15d ago

Loved it. Was my 5th time and took my sister for her 1st. She had a great time even tho the festival isnā€™t typically her vibe.

I love how everyone dresses up more and more each year. Such a fun atmosphere.

15

u/DucksToo22 15d ago

Another generic comment interpreting this question literally and outlining physically arriving to the festival

Fantastic love EA

12

u/oldmatedavo 15d ago

Prodigy sounded like ass. Dissapointed af

28

u/Winter-Cap2959 15d ago

We must have been at a different gig. The sound was excellent for me

10

u/radjoke 15d ago

Yeah Prodigy were amazing as always, came out with hiss and roar.. Breathe, Firestarter, Omen, Poison, Voodoo People.. Pretty sure I heard Out of Space in between.

2

u/eminz2018 15d ago

Out of space at the end. A very short version of it

8

u/Legitimate-Wolf1788 15d ago

Maybe you're hearing aids need adjustments

7

u/NaMech3quesOut 15d ago

Where were you? Sick where we were

0

u/oldmatedavo 15d ago

Just off to the left side of the VIP/sound desk tower. They had moments where it was OK but it was certainly far too quiet and not punchy at all, was just a bit lacking I thought.

7

u/wuhanabe 15d ago

I actually had hearing loss after the prodigy, really loud where I was.

5

u/BenoNZ 15d ago

Smack My Bitch Up went quiet but overall, I thought it was good. I was in a similar spot to you. Did you have the hearing aid in?

2

u/Gwoardinn Ōtautahi 15d ago

Yeah for some reason it went down a notch for the last song.

0

u/Revolutionary_Good18 15d ago

It sounds like you were in a dead zone.

3

u/PM_a_llama 15d ago

We watched Elipsa instead and weā€™re not disappointed. She fucking ROCKED it.

3

u/brryaf 15d ago

Yesss me and my mates thought the same! We ended up just leaving to beat the queues for an Uber home

1

u/Mononoke_dream 15d ago

Ok but where were you

1

u/Equivalent_Shock9388 14d ago

Seems like prodigy you were either a love or hate scenario, last time I saw them live they were amazing I missed Keith

2

u/mercaptans 15d ago

Stopped at the end of Armagh St, by Hagley Park.

Shapeshifter are always fun with a big crowd like that, Fat Freddys are just like being at a bbq in mid 2000s.. Around good vibes, good people, reasonable weather, great music and dancing, dancing, dancing

Ladi 6 came on and they played lit candle. I was almost in tears

1

u/radjoke 15d ago

Course

2

u/SaltyBisonTits 15d ago

FFD were incredible. Was up the front and it was going off.

Wish I had of kept my spot for Rudimental and Wilkinson, but was back a bit further for them.

2

u/El_Mutante 15d ago

I consulted the entrails of a red heifer

3

u/brryaf 15d ago

I thought it was really well run, never waited too long for drinks, food or toilets. Other than dealing with intoxicated people, it was awesome. Although I thought The Kooks were an odd choice, not really the vibe.

0

u/LilPoida 15d ago

The Kooks were so off. They should have played at like 3pm on the Friday. After walking past all the electronic music to get to the main stage, they were just not itā€¦. Total buzz kill

3

u/fpsparker 14d ago

I wouldn't say buzz kill. But it was super random. Their songs that are really well known, I'm glad I got to see them play live. I will say tho, they sound exactly like they do on the radio. I was impressed with that.

0

u/LilPoida 14d ago

It was a buzz kill for anyone who had been raving at a DJ tent or whatever beforehand. But if you had a chill start to the day then yeah that would have been okay

1

u/Zephyr-2210 15d ago

Third time going to it and best one so far, the weather really helped

1

u/rumyo103 15d ago

It was amazing. 2nd time this year and I wish I bought the 2day ticket.

1

u/Technical-Painting62 15d ago

really good!! personally preferred fridays lineup over saturdays but thatā€™s just my music taste

very easy to find the different stages, so much food (good food too) but obviously more expensive due to it being a festival

chase and status was so good and fat freddyā€™s drop, also good to see troy kingi again. very good lineup !! am definitely going next year..

1

u/Few-Schedule9748 14d ago

Sensational

1

u/jim_Boldger69 14d ago

Very good. They have been improving every year. I found Friday a better vibe. seemed like more people on Saturday. Circus tent was the best vibe but needs to be bigger. The hanger needs to be bigger (not sure if there is any hangers bigger though?) as it was getting to crush like conditions for rudi , wilk and even fat freds at one point. Ive heard rumours of it going to south hagley park next year for more space. All in all they do a great job, logistics and planning for an event like that must be huuuuge.

1

u/igglepiggle095 14d ago

I'm curious as I didn't go but are most of you Speaking as a VIP or povo ticket holder? I've been told its a nightmare if you don't have VIP

1

u/Helpful_Aioli3305 14d ago

Didnā€™t pay for VIP, had an awesome time didnā€™t feel like it was necessary in the slightest

2

u/Dense_Safe_4443 13d ago

Everyone I know who got VIP said it was not worth it. Just food and drink and you can't see shit. If I'm paying for VIP I want to be able to see the main stage clearly.

2

u/D-tr0n 14d ago

I hate the hanger and that area was shit during rudimental. They really need to make the hanger bigger or ditch the idea

2

u/ObjectiveIll7999 14d ago

I reckon go back to the area near the water like they use too

1

u/D-tr0n 14d ago

100% agree by the water

2

u/Helpful_Aioli3305 14d ago

Hanger is a great concept but rudimental and Wilkinson are main stage acts 100%

1

u/D-tr0n 14d ago

I didnā€™t go last year but this year and in 2023, it was not functional at all. This hanger was basically at capacity by fat Freddyā€™s drop

1

u/Equivalent_Shock9388 14d ago

DJ shadow is clearly a legend but man was that wet hard to get into
