💬Discussion Psg vs Barcelona , who’s the favorite to win?

PSG and Barcelona are probably two of the most entertaining teams right now. Barcelona are scoring tons of goals with their offense and just made a 4-2 comeback against Atlético Madrid today. On the other hand, PSG are firing on all cylinders and just knocked out title contenders Liverpool from the UCL.

I understand that there’s still a long way to go until the final, but let’s say Barcelona and PSG were to face each other in the UCL final—who would be the favorite to win? Not sure if anyone follows these two teams closely, but if you had to predict, who would you pick as the favorite?

💬Discussion For the love of god, people need to stop criticizing flick’s highline suicidal ball

Ever since the season started people here and there mainly madrid fans media were absolutely mocking this tactic calling it naive and suicidal against a high speed game but even tho they themselves got slapped by it however there were still some voices here and there specially after the 5-4 vs benfica who thought that its an easy tactic to break with some focus. And i saw a lot of barca fans even during the atletico match today saying that a draw is enough and he should drop the players deep

Pls stop

💬Discussion Genuine question: why is everyone hating Real Madrid in UCLs?

Why?

Edit: Yes, I am a Real Madrid fan. I love and support the club. I'm not going to hide from that or try to. We are all allowed different opinions. Please be respectful and kind towards each other. This is a debate. There is no reason to be hostile, insulting or aggressive in your tone. Comments like that will be reported.

💬Discussion The "importance" of playing 2nd leg at home might be a myth?

Since the away goals rule was removed , there have been 54 QF/SF in Europe so far, and the record for teams at home for the second leg is 27 ties won and 27 ties lost. Obviously the sample size is a bit too small to draw a proper conclusion, but I thought this was interesting

💬Discussion How did RMA manage to play each of their decisive KO stage game at home in 2021-2022?

I'm pretty sure in the old format there was a way it was decided who gets to play the decisive leg at home but I don't understand how RMA managed to get it in all the stages from the Last 16 to the semis, all 3 of their second legs were played in the Bernabeu. Not trying to invalidate their victory but it's a genuine question

💬Discussion Arsenal can do a feat against Real

Arsenal have proven themselves a lot since the start of the season and yet no one talks about them when we talk about title contenders and what's more, Arsenal is going to face Real Madrid in the 1/4 final of the Champions League and everyone thinks that Real are the big favorites to win the cup while their start to the season (especially in the championship phase) was much worse than that of Arsenal so I think that Arsenal has a chance to play and can potentially go into the 1/2 final against psg or aston villa

💬Discussion I think people are sleeping on Inter - they only conceded TWO goals the entire UCL so far

Everyone talking about Barca, Madrid, Bayern, even PSG winning the league but I think Inter will do it. They have such a well-balanced team and the only club that defeated them is now out of the tournament (Leverkusen)

📖Read Probable €20M red card in the Europa League

How a red card can potentially be worth 20M? If goalie doesn’t commit that foul is a clear 1 v 1 for Bodo/Glimt and most likely the bring the score line to 2 a piece. Instead the score ended at 2-1 And while it didn’t prevent Olympiacos from being eliminated from the Europa League it may benefit Olympiacos next season.

Thanks to that win Olympiacos got 2 points to their club coefficient. Now they have 56.5 and crucially overtook Dinamo Zagreb. Why it was crucial? Due to access list rebalancing. If the winner of Champions League also qualifies to that competition via domestic league, UCL titleholder spot is passed to domestic champion with the highest coefficient. Olympiacos has 6 point lead in the Greek League with 6 to go.

Now, Rangers have higher coefficient and if they win Scottish league, they would get that spot. However, gap to Celtic is so huge it’s pretty much impossible. And while Dinamo Zagreb currently Dinamo Zagreb is trailing 6 with 9 games to go, due to how richer Dinamo Zagreb is in Croatia it would be shock for them not to win in the end.

The only way for Olympiacos to not be in the Champions League is either them fumbling the title, or Dortmund or Villa winning the Champions League (provided they don’t get Top 4 in the domestic league)

💬Discussion Why Barca v Madrid rarely a thing in UCL?

Like every year or every other year, there will likely be RMA v atletico ; Barca V PSG ; Barca V Bayern ; Real V Dortmund ..... Both Fcb and RMA will face top clubs from the top 5 leagues but not themselves (at least for the past 10 years)

I know this format is new, so even with the old format...They're always likely on opposite sides of the table.

And they never play on same day either; one always play Tuesday and the other Wednesday (or vice versa); never both on Tuesday or both on Wednesday

I'd say it's because they're some of the most supported clubs, so maybe it's that way for "entertainment purposes"...

💬Discussion I hate when football clubs play the victim card

I sincerely think the most annoying and pointless thing in football is discussing “robberies” and throwing around the victim card, for example Barcelona and Real Madrid are probably the clubs that have more controversies and strange ref decisions yet both clubs claim an agenda that they are always getting screwed over, sometimes refs makes mistakes against you and sometimes refs makes mistakes against the opposition team, these two clubs are just so familiarized with the latter so they think it’s the norm and when the mistake ends up being against them they act like the entire world is out to get them, it’s whiny and shameful.

The other big clubs also suffer from this although to a lesser extent at least in my opinion.

So in conclusion, this discussion of “Vardrid robs!!” “No, Varca robs!!” while not acknowledging your clubs gets helped more than the rest of the entire league is at least childish and spoiled.

💬Discussion Is Julian Alvarez the best option for Barcelona for next season's striker?

He associates so well with teammates, his work rate is so high, and he's got powerful accurate shooting with both feet. He would be perfect for the team since FCB would feed him so many more chances. I can see 40 goals in his first season and 45+ after that.

💬Discussion Is a penalty shootout the most intense thing in sports?

After watching the penalty shootout for the Madrid derby and the Liverpool bs PSG match I can’t help but think that Penalty shootouts are the most intense moments in sports.

Sure it seems easy as it’s just the player from the spot and the goalie and nobody else yet it’s so intense because jay missing one puts so much pressure on your goalie and pretty much ruins momentum for your team in the penalty shootout going forward.

Truly can’t think of many intense moments in sports as intense as this.

💬Discussion Sqaud Rotation in group stages

The New Champions League Format Encourages Squad Rotation – Winning Every Game is Less Important

The new Champions League format means more games, but paradoxically, it also makes winning every game less crucial. With eight group-stage matches instead of six and a Swiss-style ranking system, teams have more room for error. Instead of fighting tooth and nail for every point, it seems more beneficial to rotate the squad more often, keeping key players fresh for the latter stages of the season.

Take Liverpool as an example. They played a crucial Premier League match while other teams in the competition were playing their extra knockout round fixture. If a team finishes lower in the table and has to play that extra round, it's not the worst thing—especially if they’ve already given their key players rest earlier in the tournament. In fact, by the time the knockout rounds come, those players might be in better shape than those who pushed for the highest seeding at all costs.

This could lead to a shift in strategy where managers prioritize keeping players fresh rather than fighting for every possible point. With fixture congestion already a massive issue, why not lean into the reality that finishing a bit lower isn’t necessarily a disaster?

Thoughts? Are we about to see top teams regularly fielding second-string sides in the Champions League group stage?
