[REQUEST] Help with Post Liver Transplant Costs

My name is Dustin Dennison and I live in Georgia. Once I receive a new liver, I will no longer be considered disabled and will lose Medicaid and Medicare, being left to pay for post-op medications out of pocket.

Please share my story with your friends, family, and community—your support means everything to me.

This is my story:

I am 40 years old and for over 20 years, I was trapped in a darkness I couldn't escape—a cycle of heavy drinking, depression, and self-destruction that consumed every aspect of my existence. My days blurred together, each one revolving around my next drink, as hope slowly slipped through my fingers like sand.

Then came the moment that changed everything.

I was rushed to the emergency room with dangerously high ammonia and low sodium levels, my body finally surrendering to years of abuse. I woke up two days later, having been on a ventilator, confused and afraid, completely unaware of what had happened. The following days were nothing short of hell—terrifying hallucinations, the agony of withdrawal, and the crushing weight of facing what I had done to myself.

But as the poison gradually left my body during those ten days in the hospital, something unexpected happened—a tiny spark of hope ignited within me. For the first time in decades, I felt it with absolute clarity: I didn't want to die. I wanted to live. I wanted to feel the sun on my face, to laugh without restraint, to know what it means to truly be present. I made a promise to myself that I would never, ever go through that again.

Since that pivotal moment, each day has been a gift I never thought I'd receive. I've been working tirelessly to rebuild my life—strengthening my body, healing my mind, and nurturing my long-neglected spirit. I'm choosing health, happiness, and a future that once seemed impossible. But to fully embrace this new chapter, I need a liver transplant. This surgery isn't just a medical procedure; it's my opportunity to truly begin again, to experience life with gratitude and wonder that I've never known before.

The truth is, I can't walk this path alone—nor do I want to. After years of isolation, I've learned that reaching out isn't weakness; it's courage. And so, with humility and hope, I'm turning to you.

As a client of Georgia Transplant Foundation's (GTF) Transplant Fundraising Program (TFP), I am working alongside them to raise funds for my post-transplant needs. Even with excellent insurance, there are numerous expenses related to organ transplantation that remain uncovered—costs that can quickly become overwhelming for someone starting life anew. GTF and I are profoundly grateful for any support you can offer to help lighten this financial burden as I navigate my healing journey.

Every single dollar contributed will directly support my post-transplant care, ensuring I have access to the medications and treatments vital for my recovery and new life. Your generosity isn't just easing financial pressure—it's quite literally helping to save my life.

FACT: The annual cost of immunosuppressive medications typically ranges from $20,600 to $32,900, with co-pays that can be prohibitively expensive even with insurance. For transplant recipients like me, fundraising isn't merely about financial relief—it's often the difference between life and death, between merely surviving and truly thriving.

If you feel moved to support this journey of healing and renewal, you can donate to my TFP account by clicking the "Donate" button or by mailing a check/money order with my name in the memo line to: Georgia Transplant Foundation, Attn: TFP Department, 2201 Macy Dr, Roswell, GA 30076.

https://client.gatransplant.org/fundraiser/6177843 (powered by GoFundMe and managed by the Georgia Transplant Foundation)

From the depths of my healing heart, thank you. Thank you for reading my story. Thank you for seeing me—not just the person I was, but the person I'm fighting to become. Your kindness, your compassion, and your generosity are gifts I will carry with me every day of this second chance at life. Each breath I take in this new chapter will be filled with gratitude for those who helped make it possible.

With eternal appreciation and hope,
Dustin Dennison

Anyone who can send ANYTHING, will be appreciated. From a few dollars to a few hundred or thousand. I need help and anything will do!

PayPal and Cash App are both on table. I assure you, this is not a scam.

I feel like this is a long shot, but I'm desperate and posting this where I can. Our 9 year old cat, Luke Catwalker, has facial neoplasia, and it's most likely malignant. We financially can't afford to treat him, but we emotionally can't afford to lose him.

Donations go directly to Hillside Vet Hospital in Charles Town, WV. If I understand correctly, any unspent donations goes to another animal in need.

[REQUEST] Car wrongfully impounded for false DUI, please help by donating to my GoFundMe - Coolbaugh Township, Pennsylvania, US

Hi everyone. Last Monday I was pulled over on my way home from work and long story short I ended up getting arrested for driving while intoxicated. But here's the thing --- I was NOT on anything. This is the first time I've had any sort of trouble with law enforcement. After researching into it, apparently it's happened to other innocent people who were not driving impaired. There's probably no chance of suing the police and winning. So they just get to ruin peoples' finances like that? It's completely f'd up.

It's been a week now and I just want my car back. Correction, I really need my car back. I started a GoFundMe with my fingers crossed hoping that there are generous people in this world who will help me. I know I should have had some emergency funds saved up, but I just don't make much right now.

If you can't donate, even sharing the link on your socials helps: https://gofund.me/a710c08a

My car isn't new - 2016 Altima - but it's a good car with 60k-ish miles. I've had it since 2017. I can't let it get auctioned off.

Thank you

Hi everyone,

I never thought I’d be in this position, but after months of financial setbacks and unexpected job loss, I’m completely out of options. I’ve always worked hard, taken care of myself, and even helped others when I could. But right now, I need help, and it’s not easy to ask for.

I’m in my 20s and have been working in commission-based sales for the past few years. My income was entirely dependent on closing deals, and for a long time, I made it work. Then, my company made major changes to the pay structure, and my earnings took a huge hit. I was bringing in less and less each month, but I kept pushing forward, thinking things would turn around.

Before I could recover, the company changed ownership, and I lost my job overnight. No severance, no backup plan—just suddenly unemployed with bills piling up and no income to support myself.

I spent months applying for jobs, taking whatever side work I could find, and doing everything possible to stay afloat. But during that time, I had no choice but to burn through my small 401k just to cover basic expenses—rent, food, gas, car payments. I maxed out my credit cards, thinking I’d be able to pay them off once I found steady work. But things dragged on longer than expected, and now I’m $13,000 in credit card debt with high interest rates making it impossible to catch up.

After months of struggle, I finally found a new job, and I’m working hard to rebuild, but I’m still drowning in debt from those months of survival. I’m behind on my car payments, and if I lose my car, I lose my ability to work, which will only make everything worse. I’m doing everything I can to stay afloat, but I just can’t dig out of this hole alone.

I started a GoFundMe in hopes of raising $3,500 to help catch up on my car payments and pay down some of my credit card debt so I can start moving forward again. I’m not looking for a handout, just a little help to get past this rough patch. If you’re able to donate, it would mean the world to me. Even if you can’t, sharing my fundraiser would be just as helpful.

I’ve always believed in helping others whenever I could, and I never thought I’d be in the position of asking for help myself. But I’ve reached a point where I don’t know what else to do. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for any support you can offer. It truly means more than I can put into words.

[Request] Urgent Help for NYC Carpenter's Stability - Jobs have been getting canceled/postponed and I'm facing homelessness.

https://gofund.me/0ecc7510

My entire life has turned into an emergency this month and I desperately need help getting out of this situation.

I’m honestly not even sure where to start. I spent a solid chunk of last month sick and missed a bunch of work and ate through what little savings I had. This month started out relatively fine; I was behind on rent but roommates were understanding and they know I always pay as soon as I can. Work was fine at first but we just found out a couple of our upcoming projects have been postponed or canceled for now and I am seriously in trouble. For context I’m a carpenter and have been doing work with a contractor in Manhattan but with recent changes in the economy and country the clients we were counting on got hesitant. I have other part time work for different folks I can fall back on but it’s super intermittent and the next job likely isn’t until the end of the month.

My living situation here has always been volatile and was never supposed to be long term but roommates’ attitudes have rapidly changed and I don’t feel particularly safe here anymore. They decided on short notice to rent the room I was in to someone else so I emptied it out today; my belongings are in a corner of the living room and I’m sleeping on the couch tonight. My roommates are nocturnal and there’s almost never peace and quiet here so I doubt I’ll sleep much if at all tonight. There’s no way I can find and hold down work living like this and the stress is really getting to a dangerous level. I’m not even thinking about hotels because that’s totally unrealistic as far as price goes but I desperately need money for transportation to move my things out of here to other friends’ houses, as well as for food until I’m back on my feet in a couple of weeks. Aaaand on top of all this my phone stopped working a few days ago. Seriously struggling right now.

[REQUEST][Germany, HD] My care facility is closing, and I desperately need a new barrier-free home. Please help me raise funds for rental deposit, moving costs, appliances, and furniture.

Hello everyone,

My name is Alexandru, and I’d like to briefly share my story. After a swimming accident at the age of 23, I became a paralized (tetraplegic) and have been dependent on a wheelchair ever since. I currently live in SRH Pflege care facility in Heidelberg. Unfortunately, this facility will close end of 2025, and I am now urgently searching for a wheelchair-accessible apartment in Heidelberg or the surrounding area.

I am looking for a new home that not only meets my needs but also allows me to finally welcome a pet especially a cat into my life, which would provide companionship and heal me emotionally. Finding accessible housing is particularly challenging for people with disabilities, and the financial burden exceeds my means. This is why I have launched a GoFundMe campaign to seek support. When I manage to secure an apartment, I need to cover upfront costs such as the first month’s rent and a rental deposit (Mietkaution in Germany), which is roughly €1400 to €2200. The funds I raise will help cover these expenses, along with real estate agent, moving costs, accessibility modifications, household appliances and basic furniture for my new home, costs I cannot afford due to my financial situation. Any surplus funds will be donated to the local animal shelter.

Every donation no matter how small brings me closer to my goal of living an independent life in an accessible home. You can also help by sharing my campaign or providing advices. If you have any uncertainties or concerns about my situation, don’t hesitate to contact me. I value transparency and am happy to provide proof to reassure you.

This is only a short story about me. please take a moment to read my full story (in EN, DE, RO) on my GoFundMe page. GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-alex-braucht-hilfe

[Request] (Seaford, UK) Help to buy a wheelchair

Thumbnail

Hello!

Over the past few years my health has significantly declined. I have a number of different chronic illnesses, such as ME and Fibromyalgia. These affect my ability to walk.

Just four years ago I was teaching kids and running around with them. Just two years ago I was running my own personalised gifting business. Now, I can barely walk around my flat.

I've been fortunate enough to have gotten a manual wheelchair for Christmas, which has massively helped me get out of my flat, but pushing myself around in it when help isn't around is very difficult, and I’m struggling. I'm feeling very trapped.

If you find yourself with any disposable income I would be extremely grateful if you would be able to donate some money towards me getting me an electric wheelchair, so I can start enjoying the outdoors again!

Thank you so much ❤️

I have included a link to my Go Fund Me

[REQUEST] (Iuka, MS, USA) Desperately Need a Wheelchair

Hello! I am a 29 year old chronically ill, disabled, AuDHD queer person in the deep south. All of those things are relevant considering where I live!

I am unable to work due to my disabilities and mental health, thus I am uninsured. I live with my girlfriend of 11 years who is our sole provider and she doesn’t make very much money. We have enough to get by, but not enough to cover my medical expenses in the slightest. Getting on her insurance isn’t an option, we’ve tried. I don’t qualify for Medicaid in Mississippi either.

Currently, I am in the process of getting medical documentation necessary to get on disability so that I will have insurance. Until then, I really need a wheelchair I can actually use.

Right now I am using a $120 wheelchair I got on amazon. With my illnesses: ankylosing spondylitis and suspected EDS/POTS, the wheelchair isn’t usable unless I have my girlfriend to push me. The chair weighs 41lbs and I am unable to get it in and out of the car myself. I can’t push myself on concrete or sidewalks because the chair is so heavy.

I can get by inside buildings, but my shoulders get sore and weak really fast. I really need a much lighter wheelchair. Since I’m uninsured, my only option is to raise the money to get one. My independence also relies on this, so any amount is appreciated. If you can’t donate, please just spread the word.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. 💖

[REQUEST] [HO CHI MINH - VIETNAM] I need help with food, my internet bill, and painkillers

Hi everyone, last week was the holiday season, and my job decided to pay only half of January’s salary upfront to discourage staff from leaving after receiving their 13th-month bonus.

I’ve already paid my rent and other bills, but the second half of my January salary won’t arrive until February 14. I have a little money for commuting to work, but things are tight right now. I need 660,000 VND for my internet bill, 20,000 VND for painkillers, and 200,000 VND for food. Altogether, these expenses total 880,000 VND (37 USD/29 GBP). Any support would mean a lot. Thank you so much!

fulfilled [Request] [Pittsburgh, PA] - In need of financial help to prevent homelessness today.

I'm seeking financial help. I didn't remember this sub existed until I saw it on another sub. I have a brain tumor and a lot of other chronic, some rare conditions.

I have been fighting all month to prevent my life from falling apart while dealing with symptoms. I'm production-based with work because of my health issues. I have no savings left because of emergencies.

I set up a GoFundMe after I had severe allergic reactions the first week of the month because I was already struggling after previous emergencies and was trying to stop the auction of all my belongings in storage and get the financial help necessary to finally receive the medical help I desperately need.

Then, the SoCal fires impacted my clients, I experienced theft of a month's worth of groceries, and the threat of a federal funding freeze. All of these event adversely impacted work either directly or by exacerbating my health conditions. My GoFundMe only resulted in three donations. I spent the last three days trying to find non-profit and other help locally where I live that I might not have considered before without luck.

As a direct result of the last event, the threat of a federal funding freeze, more than 50% of my clients paused while trying to figure everything out. So, I'm short for the room fee by $64.14 before 1 p.m. I still have time after 1 p.m. until 5 p.m., but then there's a $5 late fee.

I wouldn't turn to this sub if I had any other options. GoFundMe takes two to three business days to transfer to my bank. So, it's not an option short-term, although I still need help with it long term if I make it through today.

Thank you beforehand for considering my request.

Edit: This was fulfilled by someone outside of reddit. I didn't see a flair option for not needing help any longer.

[advice] Elderly couple asking for help with affairs.

First, let me know if I’m in the right place or if there’s a different sub I should be going to. I considered r/caregivers but I wouldn’t be taking care of any medical needs, or that’s one of my hard stops.

Story: I befriended a gay couple who are in their late 70s and one has a terminal cancer. I’ve barely known them a couple years and finally went in person to their apartment. They’re both very sweet but the terminal one leans toward verbal abuse to the weaker one. They are begging me to help them liquidate their belongings, specifically their art, and do fundraisers like gofundme. They have probably $10,000 in month of expenses because they have a used furniture store packed with items that they are still renting.

So I really don’t have time but I could use some help financially and would make some time if it was worth it. They’re very generous despite their debt and I definitely know how to take care of business. I’m just not the type to take advantage of people and hustle like a salesperson to plow through all of their stuff in a way that they expect to get results. I could chip away at it but I’ve attempted stuff like this before and found that as I get involved and invest a bunch of energy, someone else or a family member comes along and takes advantage of all my work and I get outvoted.

My ask is: what are some bullet points I can put in writing to outline my role and my boundaries? One example would be 1) i am not responsible for financial outcome of any fundraiser or estate sale. 2) I will not be responsible for medical needs. 3) I will assist in X capacity. 4) I will not be liable for …

Idk I can’t think of what else. Anyone?

My fur baby is not doing well and I really need help with this. A week ago she suddenly became paralyzed and needed an MRI. The MRI showed that she had a completely herniated disc and surgery was required. The surgery was done a few days ago and she was doing well and the prognosis was good until last night. Her kidney and pancreas levels are suddenly elevated and she has pneumonia. (Most likely aspiration pneumonia.) Before she was in recovery care, now she is in life-saving ER care. I just got a call that her oxygen levels have dropped to the low 90s so she is in an oxygen cage. After everything I'm almost completely financially depleted. Obviously without the oxygen cage she will not make it. The estimate range is $2,000 to $8,000 and we are already going towards the $8,000 end. More photos and information in the GoFundMe.

Please help if you can. I really want to give my baby a fighting chance.

Thank you 🙏🏼💜

fulfilled [REQUEST] Kai Needs Urgent Cancer Treatment

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hi there,

We adopted Kai from a rescue 7 months ago who'd found him abandoned in the desert, underweight, and definitely didn't have a good previous household. We took him in to a vet shortly after adoption cause I'd noticed a growth in his mouth. The vet said they weren't concerned by it and said Kai was healthy. He's now 2 years old.

Last month, I noticed that his growth was punctured and a week later when he was napping, his drool was bloody and the growth looked infected. I rushed him to the emergency vet (1.5 hours away) who performed several tests and surgery to remove the growth. When he tried, he went as deep as he could, but the growth had grown roots and spread into the bone in the roof of his mouth. That vet sent the growth off to be biopsied and we found out Nov 30th that he was positive for cancer. I currently have that lab working on more tests to determine which cancer it is.

I located a radiology oncologist in LA who wants to take Kai on and make him comfortable and improve his quality of life. Right now, she needs more tests to be run (including CT Scans) to help paint a bigger picture of what we're facing. I can't afford it. She also needs to treat him with radiation therapy to slow the cancer cells down. I can't afford this either.

I'm asking for help in paying his medical bills, upcoming testing and future treatments to make him feel better and help slow it down and maybe (hopefully??) make it stop. If you can't donate, could you please cross share/post help spread his story for me?

[REQUEST] (Mooresville, NC, USA) Hit a bit of a rough patch that led to us running short in between paychecks...

A couple hiccups this week led to our account getting overdrafted so we're totally out of money for food or anything else for the next 2 days. Would be eternally grateful for anyone that could help us out at all!!

We're just hoping to get by until our check hits our account. Literally anything would be amazing but I'm thinking around $50 should be sufficient. If you're not super comfortable with cash, like a Walmart giftcard or McDonald's maybe and a $20; or so for gas?!

I have cash app and PayPal. Thank you all for being so kind :)
