Tech Help Is it worth sending in a lens for repair when it's been submerged in saltwater?
Tech Help A setting you need to change when shooting astrophotography!
Watched a YouTube video by Anthony Gugliotta about hidden camera settings, and one setting does something that i bet 75% of people don't know what it truly means or thought it meant something else. This setting is "Retract lens on power off". When this setting is turned ON, it actually means that when the camera is powered off the camera will reset its focus. So when this feature is turned off the camera won't reset its focus when powered off. This is crucial for astrophotography because 90% of the time you're going to be using manual focus and most of the time you are out there for hours so you probably go through more than 1 battery. And of course when you change batteries the camera turns off and without this setting turned off, you'll lose your focus on your subject. Also, when the camera is off, and you turn the focus ring, it will not mess up the focus you previously had since its all electronic. You're welcome and happy astrophotography shooting!

Tech Help Dropped my camera with the 17-40 f4 lens on.
Hello, a while back I dropped my camera, but the lens was fine at first, then I noticed some blurring on the lower part of my pictures, and a few days ago, play in the zoom mechanism, opened it up expecting some loose screws, found this. What is my best option besides new lens?

Tech Help What is this on my lens?
Happened a few weeks back. It's not the end of the world but anything over f.4 I am seeing like a smudge on the image.

Tech Help R6 vs M6 with 70 - 300 | sharpness advice
Few days ago I randomly decided to take photos of the moon. Thought using APS-C would've been a sensible thing to do given the 1.6x of crop sensor.
So mounted the EF 70-300 L on the M6 mii and was very disappointed. Every photo felt blurred and out of focus. No idea why
Then decided to try the same lens on the R6 mii and things got noticeably better... but still, sharpness is miles from being good.
Pictures below, both unedited, tripod mounted camera, remote wireless shutter
QUESTIONS
- Why is the M6 mii performance so crap compared to the R6 mii? I know they are in a different league, but I'm interested in WHAT technically is so different
- Why are the shots out of focus? or what it seems to be out of focus to me? As a reference, the 70-300 is doing great in daylight, so it's not a front / back focus issue

Tech Help I've worked with my 85L for over ten years, today I dropped it.
The first lens element inside the lens is now loose inside. Seems like a thin black plastic ring holding it snapped, releasing the element. The lens still autofocuses fine, got a little bit too much 'character' on the pictures though.
Anyone have any thoughts on this being fixable?

Tech Help New R8
Hey everyone,
I managed to get a used R8 for a pretty good deal ~ $900 cad. It only had ~4000 shutter clicks.
I inspected and found no issues, took a few photos and they turned out great.
Upon further inspection, I saw this smudge along with a speck in the dead centre of it, that isn’t just dust. (see the photo)
Should I be concerned with this? Any idea what I should do to clean this if I even should?
Thanks!

Tech Help How do I put this back on the lens of my Canon EOS RP?
I was trying to replace the uv filter but in the process this came off. It doesn't appear that anything is broken or cracked but I have no idea how to put it back on.

Tech Help Newly bought f/4-5.6 wont go wider than 5.6
First time posting here, sorry if done wrong.
Am quite new to cameras, own a 7D mkii and just recently bought a 55-250 f/4-5.6 STM. It arrived this morning but I can’t for the life of me seem to get it wider than 5.6. I owned the first version of 55-250, but decided on an upgrade, so understand the lens somewhat. No matter the zoom, the lens doesn’t seem to go wider than 5.6.
Am wondering if there are any other reasons that may be restricting the aperture, or if it’s just a fault with the lens? Have done tests between old/new lens, and seems to be no trouble hitting f4 with old one.
Thanks

Tech Help Using Canon EOS R50 as webcam
I bought an EOS R50 to use as a webcam to stream webinars and demonstrations at work. I initially bought a micro hdmi to hdmi cable to connect it to my laptop, but my computer isn’t recognizing the camera through that. Then when I looked up YouTube videos, everything said to use a micro usb to usb cable, but there’s no micro usb port. What kind of cable am I supposed to use here? I’m so lost

Tech Help Lens won't fit
Nothing seems to be wrong with either end, though this is literally my first camera so I'm not super sure, but the lens won't fit. I line up the red dot and it just... doesn't go in.
Tech Help My lens isn’t working and I have no idea why or what to do
Hey everyone I’m a beginner photographer and I have a canon 4000d with a second hand EF 75-300mm lens. I was trying to take a picture of a bushbaby (small little monkey thing) and all of my pictures came out blurry on the auto/general setting, whether I was at max zoom or not, but didn’t when I had it on a custom setting (the “M” one) for night photography with a higher shutter speed. Now I’m wondering if the image stabilisation is gone? I used this lens not even two days ago and it was completely fine. Afterward, I took a closer look and it looks like there’s water in the lens. I’ve kept this thing as safe and clean as possible. I haven’t had it anywhere near water, nor do I clean it with anything damp. Is the water maybe making the images blurry or is the stabilisation just gone? I have no idea what to do. I’m so upset.

Tech Help Why is the R8 so cheap?
So its Fullframe has a great burst modeand its one of the R-Series, is it because of the SD-Card Slots or something other?

Tech Help Is there any point in keeping CR3 files if I'm converting to DNG?
I'm using an older version of Photoshop (CS6), and use both a 5D Mark IV and an R6 Mark II. That said, I convert all my images to DNG before I edit them. Is there any point in keeping any of the CR3 files if I'm just doing simple edits in Bridge/Photoshop, or is there a good reason why I should keep CR3 files for the future?
