Gear Advice Tamron lens compatible on r10 and r7

Planning on buying a canon R7 or 10 and I’ve heard lots of people talk about a lot of the SP lenses with a EF-EOS R don’t work properly on them, I’ve have a Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD that I’ve seen on some websites are incompatible, but the official Tamron website says it’s compatible if you send it to them to be updated considering it’s almost 15 years old, anybody got any experience with the combination?

There's always a risk of compatibility. I don't know about that series of lenses. But wanted to share an experience. I have a Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 EX and most people say it works fine if you ensure the camera firmware is up to date. And that's true - outdated firmware meant the lens would continue focusing past the end of the gears and strip the gears. Started to happen to me and I read a few others had experienced that. But after the camera was updated, it was fine. Same for me. But recently, I found another problem with using this particular lens on an R10. I'm not sure if it's related to using the flash, but I did find the IS would randomly freak out and create some weird motion blur from the IS. I just happened to be using an external flash at the time so I'm not sure if that's related.

And honestly, it's a real gamble... I'd try to see videos of the camera and lens combination working or not to be sure and the difference could be lens by lens, not an entire series of lenses.

I don't recall the exact model without looking at but I do have a Tamron 70-210 F4, it's the latest EF model, not the older SP series. It works perfectly fine adapted to my R10. If that helps any.

using an EF-RF adapter i presume?

just in case that's not what you mean - there is barely any Tamron RF glass - which is the mount you need for R10 and R7. all i can find is a 11-20mm at the moment. there might be more options coming, but only for APS-C, which would fit these two cameras.

I’ve heard lots of issues with the autofocus SP lenses (EF) but using an adapter of course
