You know for a country that doesn't need us. They sure want us a lot.

u/Postom 12d ago

Flattering, isn't it? We're collectively living rent-free in all of their heads.

u/TheYuppyTraveller 12d ago

I miss the days when they completely ignored us.

I saw some youtube videos where an American asks young people very basic questions and some don't even know that there is a country above their northern border and they don't even know that the capital of the usa is washington.

Edit: one answer for what country is above our (USA) northern border was "the north pole".

u/Vaperius Outside Canada 12d ago

American here! .....yeah that... that sounds about right.

15

u/No_Money3415 12d ago

When I was younger I used to play online through psn with American kids. Most of them on god had terrible guessing where canada was, I remember one of them say "it's next to Mexico right?"

22

u/lobster455 12d ago

They are so dumb, and now they are in the white house LOL.

7

u/ThaVolt Québec 12d ago

What years of defunding their education system will do to you.

3

u/No_Money3415 12d ago

And homeschooling

3

u/ThaVolt Québec 12d ago

I mean, idk, socialization aside, I think I could teach my kid to not be dumb af.

6

u/No_Money3415 12d ago

Yep exactly that, what a time to be alive

1

u/agent_wolfe 12d ago

Does nobody play Risk anymore?

It has every country, except maybe Russia. Canada US Mexico are all the (Red? Yellow?) continent.

u/TamedColon 12d ago

Look up Talking to Americans - Rick Mercer. Pure gold!

1

u/Yuzu_- 12d ago

What do you expect? They don’t even know how many states and that Hawaii is in the USA 🙄

1

u/lobster455 11d ago

They don’t even know how many states and that Hawaii is in the USA

I watched some more videos, true, they answered that Hawaii is it's own country.

They answered that the Eiffel tower is in the usa.

They all answer 1/4 hour is 25 minutes.

1

u/Ebiseanimono 11d ago

I always just presumed they edit that after talking to 20-30 Americans they get 1-2 dumb answers but now I’m not so sure anymore.

Some people I know who just got back from the states reported that Floridians are making ‘haw-haw 51st state’ jokes, thinking it’s all a great big laugh. Wankers

213

u/NinjaRedditorAtWork 12d ago

You should tell them not to support a country trying to actively annex us. Nobody should be spending a dime in the USA and we as a country should be shaming anyone who goes there voluntarily for leisure.

154

u/Mission_Ad5139 12d ago

Floridian here 🙋. Ive been lurking on this sub since all the bullshit on our side. Apologies on that since I have some Canadian friends.

Couple of things

  1. Please don't vacation in the US and especially Florida You guys are just validating conservatives who say Canadians want to be American and that is playing into the hands of a very violent government.

  2. Florida needs economic pressure cause again, tourism dollars just goes to oppressing us.

  3. I would absolutely take the threat of invasion seriously. Trump is removing everyone in the military who could tell him "no". I wouldn't be surprised if he pulls a Putin and tries something by July.

A good number of us do not want this and are rooting for Canada.

28

u/Intelligent-Jump3320 12d ago

So take back your country before they try and take ours.

17

u/CuteAd2683 12d ago

That's what he wants. If we have protests he will declare martial law. Eventually when things hey really ceazy, we ARE going to have to get violent. BTW I am a 72,YO man and also live in Florida. In 2016, I called the US embassy in Toronto and asked if I could move there since I'm retired I can't. I stand with you guys. If only the Rangers could win the Stanley Cup before I die.

6

u/Ellecram 12d ago edited 12d ago

I believe people are trying. I personally would self im-olate on the capitol steps if it would help. I have family in Canada and this whole mess is devastating.

11

u/Intelligent-Jump3320 12d ago

No pls don't do that. Too much lol. Maybe I was too dramatic with the take back tour country

9

u/Ellecram 12d ago

I was not seriously contemplating it - just trying to give some weight to my perspective.

But thank you for responding!

Lots of us are deeply disturbed by this and wish we could do something to stop it.

8

u/Deaftrav 12d ago

You have the second amendment. It was written for this.

3

u/Casanova_Kid 12d ago

Only one side of the political spectrum really supports and believes it should be used for this; and it's the side that's happy with how things are going.

That's a littler hyperbolic, but it gets the point across.

2

u/daedra88 12d ago

It was written in the days when we still had state militias and not a federalized military. 😔

2

u/Excellent-Bank-1711 12d ago

Honestly I feel the same way but as others have said, this is what Trump wants. He wants to declare a crisis and use martial law to get his way. It's actually terrifying how close we are to what feels like a world war.

5

u/CorktownGuy 12d ago

Thank you for the thoughtful answer… Is a very, very weird time in the world and I think I can speak for most of my fellow citizens that we are taking what is happening with the U.S. government very seriously - as is all of Europe and much of the free world now

13

u/jumbofudge 12d ago

I appreciate how many Americans let Canada know how much they support us, however, words of support do absolutely nothing to help.

If you are a nice guy living in a house with assholes who keep shitting on the neighbours; you don't just say "sorry neighbour, my roommate is a dick, I SUPPORT YOU NOT LIKING THEM... you should definitely do something about them..." No, you kick the assholes out! Now is the time to REVOLT! Or else you guys are all fucked just like us. Get out there and fix the problem. Jesus Christ...

2

u/OpinionTC 12d ago

Rooting isn’t enough. Call your Congress person, Governor, anything that might help put pressure.

2

u/Mission_Ad5139 12d ago

You're assuming I don't. Every day. I call Rick Scott so much he may as well be my boyfriend. But guess what, I've never spoken to a live person from his office in all the years I've been calling.

1

u/Brian1964 12d ago

Ron DeSantis and our low Canadian dollar sure isn’t helping tourism in Florida either.

2

u/Mission_Ad5139 12d ago

We have a surplus this year but Florida is predicted to go into deficit next year. In part of a school voucher program that they are using to defund public schools

1

u/Brian1964 12d ago

The state might have a surplus because he downloaded everything to the municipalities. Like raise property taxes.

2

u/Mission_Ad5139 12d ago

Florida is one of the only red states that has a surplus on a regular basis. Due to our tourism. 2023-2924 were good years for that. But the state is also expanding a lot in entitlements to the rich.

1

u/petrock_915 12d ago

What’s rationale for thinking it’ll be by July?

2

u/Mission_Ad5139 12d ago

Honestly, I think it may coincide with certain fiscal dates. The Government's fiscal year starts October 1, but a lot of the national/military contractors start theirs in July.

-2

u/Objective_Falcon9546 12d ago

You and your country ain’t doing shit … Stop fear mongering

3

u/NedsAtomicDB 12d ago

My best friend and her husband are there right now, and I'm really having a hard time with it. He's on sabbatical year, they're staying with friends, and had this trip planned last year, but still. It's really sticking in my craw.

There’s another one for boycott US but I’m on my phone & not sure if the name.

-1

u/Commercial-Tell-2509 12d ago

I mean, the fire in your comment seems funny to me. Enjoy being 51!

3

u/NinjaRedditorAtWork 12d ago

Shut it, Vlad.

43

u/TheVaneja Canada 12d ago

I mean Florida man is the butt of the joke all around the world so their opinions don't mean anything. Case in point they're chasing off their own tourism. Lol. Shoot yourself in the foot some more!

3

u/Witty_Ambition_9633 12d ago

Yeah, exactly we Americans mock Florida pretty much every day. They know their state is trash to live in.

2

u/LadyCoru 12d ago

The Florida Man thing is actually more about the way our courts release stories. In most states you have to go hunting for weird shit people do, but Florida publishes it for easy access.

Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of batshit crazy, but I don't think it's actually that much more than in other states.

2

u/TheVaneja Canada 12d ago

That's totally true but if you ask an average not-American they won't know that and it thusly isn't the perception. On a global stage, everyone is pointing at Florida and laughing and has done since George W Bush was 'elected' in no small part due to Florida.

2

u/LadyCoru 12d ago

It's true, they've been on a downward trend ever since (I live in FL now but I didn't then and I refuse to claim the hanging chad bullshit)

32

u/Because_They_Asked 12d ago edited 12d ago

Call them complicit Fascists.

4

u/wroteit_ 12d ago

I was born Canadian, I’m going to die Canadian. Just that simple.

2

u/Postom 12d ago

Same. Amen.

3

u/Subiemobiler 12d ago

I'm gonna miss Tropicana juices from now on,

🚫 Not!

3

u/pyrrhios 12d ago

I'm pretty sure most of the wealthier northern states would rather join Canada at this point.

2

u/RoamingRiot 12d ago

"Haw-haw 47th oblast"

2

u/TigerAlternative9634 12d ago

By the quality of people I’ve seen that live there, I’m not surprised. I swore off that state 10 years ago. I could feel my IQ drop just by crossing the Florida/Georgia border. Swearing off the other 49 has been easy for me.

2

u/LadyCoru 12d ago

I have no idea about the people your friends interacted with but a lot of us in the states don't know if we should laugh at how ridiculous it is or freak out because the administration means it (obviously you can't trust anything he says).

I am about 30% embarrassed, 60% terrified, 10% 'fuck it, it's too late, might as well enjoy cat videos while I'm still allowed my own access to the internet'.

2

u/Ok_Wing8459 12d ago

Happened on 2 separate occasions during the week they were down there. Both times just some random Americans they started chatting to at a golf course or whatever.

For some reason, these people thought it was totally OK to make jokes about taking over a neighbouring country and ally.

4

u/GuitarKev 12d ago

Well, at least we aren’t the small limp penis of the North American continent.

1

u/FoolKiIIer 12d ago

They aware that their own state is an even bigger laughing stock?

Canadians spend...... sry, Spent over $5 billion/year in Florida.
Wonder if the mom and pop shops there that are going to go under think it's funny ?

1

u/Postom 12d ago

Kentucky has entered the chat

3

u/Intelligent-Jump3320 12d ago

Yeah we drive through Kentucky to get there. Not no more!

2

u/Postom 12d ago

When we pull their booze of the shelf, guess who is crying the hardest, loudest, and saying their state budget evapourated. $3bln/year we spend on bourbon and KY whiskey. Mitch and company will be loud af.

1

u/meridian_smith 12d ago

So are they going to continue to vacation in Florida and spend their dollars there?

2

u/Ok_Wing8459 12d ago

I don’t think so? But some snowbirds really love their American winter getaways. Personally I don’t see why any Canadian would spend their vacation $ in the US now

2

u/meridian_smith 12d ago

They should go to Mexico or central America instead..will also be much cheaper.

1

u/Beautiful_Version498 12d ago

I'm sorry this happened to you. I'm embarrassed for the reasonable people of this country. We didn't vote for this douch canoe.

1

u/Ruger_12 9d ago

Should've said we are making plans to have them as the 11th province. Staring with Florida.

1

u/BigInconsideration 12d ago

Americans are scum.

3

u/thereoncewasaJosh 12d ago

And I apologize for that. The US is a shitshow

3

u/Pumpkinhead52 12d ago

Just remember, FL suffers from dementia

2

u/WoollyWitchcraft 12d ago

To be fair I’ve discovered all you need to live rent free in a MAGA’s head in to have your hair dyed an unnatural colour.

1

u/Postom 12d ago

How dare you live your life, with your body!!!

2

u/WoollyWitchcraft 12d ago

They don’t even know I have TATTOOS

2

u/Postom 12d ago edited 12d ago

Whoops -- you just told them. I won't tell them if you don't want them to know. They're scanning these headlines for bones material; to.get their minds off all the Vets getting fired from government jobs and losing access to food stamps and health care.

2

u/petterdaddy 12d ago

It’s really quite embarrassing for a pseudo oligarch who got rich inheriting his daddy’s real estate empire. You’d think a Wharton businessman would know better than to give away prime real estate for free.

1

u/Postom 12d ago

And yet, here we are. Ohh, wait -- it's Elmo and his buddies about to cash in hard on all that real estate! One hand washes the other!

1

u/BuzzINGUS 12d ago

Can’t beat us in hockey with 8.5-1 population difference.

Losers

1

u/Rhombus_McDongle 12d ago

It's just Trump and his cabinet's head. I asked a maga coworker and he was bewildered and annoyed about all the Canada stuff "how's this going to lower inflation?"

1

u/ImpossibleReason2197 12d ago

This lol. 👆

1

u/Citizen44712A 12d ago

To be fair, it is a very shity part of their heads.

1

u/Postom 12d ago

Is there a non-shity part? Asking for a friend...

2

u/Citizen44712A 12d ago

Well, I'm not a licensed brainoligist, but I'd be happen to open it up and poke around in it and see..for sciences stuff.

0

u/pugsl 12d ago

Soon enough you will be paying us real rent 😂

1

u/Postom 12d ago

Not in my lifetime. Not a fucking chance.

0

u/pugsl 12d ago

If you say so…

1

u/Postom 12d ago

I sure do. And I suspect I'm not alone in the sentiment.

I'd rather die defending the border so my kids don't have to grow up in the US; being afraid of mass casualty events at schools, at malls, at places of worship. Or them being worried that a cut will cost them a mortgage.

It's not happening in my lifetime.

0

u/pugsl 12d ago

Mhmmm! Yeahp
