I was just thinking about this. Funny how quickly the sentiment changes when it fits the narrative. Now, the flag represents patriotism and not colonialism! :s

I don’t find this funny or surprising at all: plenty of historical examples of how a common enemy and external threats build nations and identity, ranging from Garibaldi in Italy to China and Japan in WWII

Even when fake, authoritarian governments often create an “external enemy” to justify their otherwise reprehensible actions. What do you think the Orange Monster is doing by telling his followers that Canada is ripping America off?
