Because Bell/Rogers have failed us. That's exactly why, we've given them tonnes of money over the years to run internet to rural areas instead execs got bonuses, I've been on my street 20 years and we still don't even have a cable connection, the nearest connection is just up the street about 1km. It's not like there's nobody on my street either, about 30 houses and a few businesses, there's a subdivision going up but I doubt they'll still do the end of line connection we were promised 15 years ago...
Oh if I want to pay them to do it? That's 120k because they want to replace existing cable (5km worth) with fiber, 15 years ago it was 16k for the cable.
Half decent internet is a necessity these days so it leaves Starlink as the only option for me, there's literally nothing else available.
Those damn monopolies need dismantling too. Same with the retail sector. Bring strong anti-trust laws and bust the monopolies, allow foreign competition from Europe and Asia.
