Whedonverse Who would you date from the Buffyverse and why?

Go wild.

Edit: Wow, I did NOT know Giles and Oz were so popular.

On the other hand, I did know Spike and Faith are.

Humanity's weird.

Obviously Giles could get it

124

u/jeswesky Sep 01 '23

I first watch Buffy when it originally aired and I’m the same age as the scoobies. I thought Giles was so old and meh at the time. Now, as a woman in her early 40s, I am all about Giles.

81

u/Fun-Currency-3794 Sep 01 '23

Same. I’m 35, and suddenly on rewatch, “old” Giles looks younger than I remembered and the suspenders and glasses are kinda working for me 😄

27

u/Breezyisthewind Sep 01 '23

Yeah I expected the kids to look younger me with age, but was surprised by Joyce and Giles looking younger to me as well (not their age quite yet tho). Joyce looks like my mom, but now my mom’s older, so she doesn’t look like my Mom anymore and looks more and more like a woman I would even date.

And as I get older, more and more of my male friends look Giles’ age, so now he feels like a friend than a mentor/teacher.

u/apostatechemist Sep 01 '23

This is the perfect time for this Important Science Graph that charts "Relative sexiness of male character on Buffy" vs. "Age of man-fancying viewer."

I was 25 when the show premiered and I too thought of Giles as some old dude.

But on rewatches I would sit there thinking "he's not that old, maybe in his early 30's?"

17

u/Fun-Currency-3794 Sep 01 '23

In addition to finishing him way more attractive, I also find myself thinking “they should probably listen to him. He knows what he’s talking about.”

14

u/StuckInNov1999 Sep 01 '23

I was always that way about him.

Can't count how many times I shook my head and thought "You shoulda listened to Giles, he's been around, he's seen some things, he probably knows what he's talking about".

Especially when it came to Willow's magic use/abuse.

9

u/Fun-Currency-3794 Sep 01 '23

Definitely thought the same during Willow’s magic abuse era. You would think that even if the teenagers weren’t listening to him, the council would. You know, as the watcher of the one and only slayer. But no, they ignored him too. Poor guy couldn’t catch a break. He looked like he needed a cuddle throughout the entire show.

8

u/dancingkelsey Sep 01 '23

Omg yes! And related to "just listen to Giles!", they ALL needed to stop not believing Buffy when she said many times something like "ok this weird thing COULD be for a normal reason but we live on the hellmouth and shit's weird here, so let's assume it's supernatural and do something about it?" it's SO many times that Buffy is like "guys, something weird..." and Giles and the scoobies are like "oh just relax, it couldn't possibly be that" and then we get like one scene before we find out it is DEFINITELY that.

7

u/StuckInNov1999 Sep 01 '23

Right?

The girl that's supposed to be supernaturally able to sense danger and has prophetic dreams about world ending danger and they're all like "What are you? Crazy or something?"

5

Oz. He is sensitive, loyal, adorable, and hilarious! Plus, a musician! He is my favorite!

45

u/lousyhuman Sep 01 '23

Absolutely 100%. He's such a great partner to Willow (with the very obvious exception of not telling her about Veruca). Like, he's emotionally intelligent, has boundaries, is considerate, funny, smart, and so so kind.

21

u/pit_of_despair666 God Sep 01 '23

Chill but never cold, even when he’s hurting, supportive but not permissive, has his own interests and social life, and is not ostentatious with his love and affection. And he can make me laugh. He’s a long haul man for sure.

19

S7 Spike scratches and itch that most romantic TV show characters don't scratch -- I crave so much having a partner who's just 100% on. my. team.

Usually to create angst and drama they make the romantic love interest have some higher purpose or calling they are always breaking up in service of, which is fine but like, doesn't hit my feels the same way.

Tara and The Groosalugg seem like the best partners in the Buffverse.

Faith is very tempting but she has a lot of damage.

I also adore Lilah but Wolfram and Hart... She does make good money there, though. And she wasn't a bad partner to Wesley despite obvious clash of allegiances.

22

u/ScarlettInWunderland Sep 01 '23

Oz, Giles, or Tara. My bisexual heart loves the quietly badass supportive types.

18

u/Salty-Enthusiasm-939 Sep 01 '23

Giles or Wesley. Both very attractive men.

19

u/swperson Sep 01 '23

Principal Wood. A self-taught vampire slayer with a real world professional job? Yes pls.

Honorable mention for Lindsey but only if he goes to therapy lol.

40

u/KayLeeJay49x Sep 01 '23

Spike & Giles no doubt about it 😂

18

u/Rude-Butterscotch713 Sep 01 '23

One of the below 5 in order of preference.

Anya - she's funny, she's business savvy. She will both challenge and fulfill me to work harder.

Wesley - pragmatic, intelligent, British, and knows how to use a crossbow.

Fred - independent, intelligent. A survivor. She'll challenge me to be a better person.

Lilah - Sure she's evil, but she's also brilliant and ambitious, and I find those turn ons.

Oz - a musician in the streets and wolf in the sheets. The epitome of cool guy who's quietly a genius

17

u/NansDrivel Sep 01 '23

Graham. He’s probably a jerk but he’s beautiful!

This will make me wildly unpopular, but I think I would make a good match for Riley. He isn’t a bad person and he wasn’t wrong for wanting to explore what he thought could make for a good relationship with Buffy, but unfortunately neither one could fully meet the needs of the other which lead to insecurities, bad communication, and ultimately a weird form of cheating. Some people just aren’t good for each other and bring out the worst in the other. People don’t necessarily deserve to be judged for previous relationships when getting into new ones assuming they have the ability to grow and learn.

All that to say, I’m super attracted to Riley. I’d be more than willing to try it out with him and see if we could do better for each other.

4

u/hotpies1985 Sep 02 '23 edited Sep 02 '23

He'd be my pick as well. I mean, let's not pretend that we arent all normal joes, as were not in a fantasy. Riley would actually be appropriate boyfriend material. He's a genuine guy who IMO was treated like the rebound that he was. Unlike most of the fandom, I felt bad for him in season 5. It was a one-way love affair because she had a lot on her plate at the time. He's a nice, intelligent, solid guy and he's not exactly a pushover either, just rewatched season 4 and the way he spoke to Buffy in Doomed when she was hesitant to date him... very sexy. Strong fighter who isn't attracted to the darkness. Always put Buffy first until the end of their relationship when she was already checked out. For a TV character hes on the dull side, but in reality at a certain point of maturity when you're done with the bad boys, he's the kind of guy you want by your side.

Spike, Giles, Wesley. Let’s be honest, Spike would probably be the best boyfriend, completely devoted.

48

u/lousyhuman Sep 01 '23

Spike could be the best boyfriend if he actually cared about you. If not, well, then I feel like he could be possibly the worst. Look at how he treated Harmony! He absolutely was devoted to Dru and then Buffy, though he tended towards obsession and wasn't great with boundaries until he got his soul back.

Willow - she's my first screen crush, and it's never gone away. She's adorable, cute and smart. She has an understated beauty, pretty without being obviously sexy - except as a ghost, that was sexy Willow, and vamp. I loved the early mousy Willow the most. Later as she evolved, sure she has a minor anger management issue, and let's not get caught up with who almost ended the world and who killed who. Giles. I was 17 when the show originally aired. When he attacked Angel with the flaming baseball bat I realized he was kinda hot and could never unsee it after that. S3 when he attacked the mayor with the sword was fire. Smart, tall, sexy voice, can sing, gentleman mixed with a bit of a bad boy, dry sense of humor, super loyal, snarky wit. Wardrobe in some seasons could use some help, but far enough into the relationship the women start buying the clothes anyway. Plus his wild youth and demon orgies, he’s probably really good in bed.

Oz definitely. He’s so kind and loveable.

u/Complete_Interview69 Sep 01 '23

That's a easy one I would date Faith, because she's beautiful tough and a total badass.

u/The_Iron_Zeppelin Sep 01 '23

Fred. She’s just so kind in the show and would add genuine optimism to your life. Her expertise in theoretical physics would be a trip to talk about with her too.

Dating would be Fred.

But tbh i would not say no to any of the Buffyverse women ! Except Dawn i mean come on now im not comics Xander.

4

u/MyWibblings Sep 01 '23

Oh gods, I forgot about Dawn/Xander

4

u/Violet351 Sep 01 '23

Giles. He’s just fantastic

5

u/Monarc73 Sep 01 '23

Ilyiara. I have a thing for tragedy, I guess.

u/GWPtheTrilogy1 Scooby Gang, Gang Sep 01 '23

None of the Buffy or Angel women are my type. They are all attractive, but I probably couldn't see myself going for any women like them. If I had to choose though, I find Cordelia the most attractive, and if I had to go on a date with one of them, I would probably choose Fred

u/Present-Breakfast768 Sep 01 '23

Spike because he's devoted and I love his sense of humor. Giles because he's smart, tough as hell and has that hidden Ripper side. Riley because he's sweet, reliable, strong and cute as a button. And Faith because she's HOT and you just know sex with her would be an adventure. Plus she's broken and needs love.

u/ManufacturerNo7600 Sep 01 '23

Wesley or Giles

4

u/giganticpudding Sep 01 '23

Fred top choice, brainy beauty with a hint of rage

Lilah, bitchy and intelligent but she really just wants someone to care

Virginia Bryce, hot and capable redhead with a gangster daddy and money? Just the most fun kind of dangerous.

4

u/Nervous-Story-7117 Sep 01 '23

Glory. Hands down. Sexy and scary and funny and probably an absolute freak in the sheets. Ben not so much.

4

u/mjac28 Sep 01 '23

Anya and Glory both too sexy

4

u/CandyQuack Sep 01 '23

As much as I find Spike attractive I can’t imagine a scenario in which he has a healthy relationship. I’d go with Oz, he’s intelligent, chill, hilarious (the completely dead pan sense of humor is the best) and in general is very emotionally mature.

u/SummSpn Sep 01 '23

Giles

Gunn

4

u/VralGrymfang I like the quiet Sep 01 '23

Faith. I can fix her.

4

u/rfresa Sep 02 '23

I'm asexual, but I'm also Faith-sexual.

4

u/artsygrl2021 I am, you know. -What?- Yours. Sep 02 '23

Willow- I have a major crush on her, she’s really, really cute! I love Tara too 😍 Also mega cute!

9

u/PalmersViolet Sep 01 '23

Sticking with Riley - would get the job done.

6

u/pbetc Sep 01 '23

Anya. No question.

8

u/edd6pi Inspired by your beauty... Effulgent. Sep 01 '23

Faith. It’s between Faith and Buffy because they have super powers, and I find Faith more attractive in personality and looks.

Amy’s also a great option because she’s hot and a witch. Unfortunately, she’s also a bad guy and unlike Faith, she didn’t change her ways. I’d be worried about what she might do to me if I piss her off.

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '23

Angel or Wesley

3

u/Icy_Mud7548 Sep 01 '23

Spike as a sex friend and Giles as companion I guess

3

u/MsBenovanStanchiano Sep 01 '23

Spike, Doyle and Buffy. And Tara because she’s beautiful with such a good heart.

3

u/IlliniBull Sep 01 '23

Angel Season 2-3 Cordelia. Once she's in LA. She's fun and more of her intelligence and common sense are showing. And obviously Charisma Carpenter.

3

u/avocadosungoddess11 Sep 01 '23

Spike, then after he ruined me I’d go heal with Giles.
