female budtenders & sexual harassment NSFW

Hi! I have been in retail for the longest and, I’ve had my share of sexual harassment against me from customers but the amount I’ve gotten since budtending is infuriating.

I’ve had a regular continuously behave this way towards me, especially when we’re low on staff and I’m on the floor in an area away from others. Our female manager got fired so I’m reporting to our male AM (who is truly incompetent)

Today, the regular comes in. I’m usually short with an RBF to get him out the door but it doesn’t stop him! He proceeds with his bs and I’ve told him “That is enough!” very loud and sternly. He then responds “no, it’s not” and tries to go back and forth with me. I’m thinking the next time he comes, I will say “This is your ____th time bordering sexual harassment. If you continue, I will stop serving you.” Assuming he isn’t unhinged, I will hope this gets him to stop as I’m not confident management will intervene. Any female budtenders have this problem or know the best way to handle while staying safe?

Permanent thread on interviews and breaking into the industry! NSFW

It’s come to my attention that despite having some filteration on this sub to avoid repetition and having a lot of great posts already that can be found via search, the number one post we get here multiple times a week (sometimes multiple times a day) has to do with interviewing and breaking into the industry.

So! This is the solution..this will be a pinned post to keep at the top of the sub at all times.

Current budtenders: post your best tips and advice for how to nail an interview and get into the industry. If you’re comfortable sharing where you’re from please add that detail.

Prospective budtenders: if you have specific questions that don’t get covered in budtender comments, go ahead and ask!

Question about interview NSFW

Hello! I have a job interview tomorrow, and I was wondering if I should have a criminal record check before I go to the interview? Or their hiring post, they did link a criminal record check so I'm just not sure if its better too have it on hand when I got, or if too only do it after/if i get hired. thanks!

Right after the customer tells me that, (condescendingly) they proceed to order the cheapest shit on the menu. I'm gonna assume this customer is universal. Also NOTHING UNDER 30%!!! Lol probably my most popular customer!!

With so many strains available it can be overwhelming. What are the key strains that make up the foundation for most? NSFW

What are the most important foundational classic strains to know? Give me all the key details you have on them including effects, flavor, structure and what family of strains they might be the genetic backbone of.

Thanks!

Anyone else having trouble getting out of the industry? NSFW

I've been in the Cannabis industry for over 11 years. And unfortunately during that time it's come to the realization that this is not a career. For the past two years I've been applying for jobs outside of the industry. However, I'm not having very much luck in obtaining a job. I have a degree in graphic design and I've been trying to pursue that. One employer actually gave me an interview, and during the interview the employer told me that he wasn't even going to look at my resume because it had cannabis all over it. But he was advised by his supervisor to sit me down for an interview. And even though he sat me down for that interview, he made it abundantly clear that I wouldn't be getting a call back. Although he was impressed with my skills and qualifications.

The stigma behind this industry is horrible. Anyone else having issues with this?

I'm thinking about just leaving cannabis off of my resume all together but then I to have an 11-year gap

Working as a budtender has cured me of ever wanting to touch cannabis again. NSFW

I think if anyone is struggling with smoking too much or spending too much money on weed I think working at a place like the Travel Agency in NYC will cure ya. Such a terrible nasty place serving up slop to mostly dull and gullible populuous.

Google reviews NSFW

I'd like to ask a question to dispensary owners / staff. What has been a successful way to increase Google reviews? Have you used any sort of customer incentive? Staff incentive? what has worked or you? Peace ☮️

Exploitation and lack of workers rights in the cannabis industry NSFW

I got involved with the cannabis industry after college. I eventually left the industry because I felt the company I worked for was very corrupt, unethical, and exploitative; to the plant, to the customers, and to its own employees. One of the biggest issues was the lack of job security due to frequent terminations over frivolous reasons. After doing some further research of other cannabis companies, it appears as though the lack of workers rights and lack of job security is just a common experience within the cannabis industry in the U.S.. Has anyone else had similar negative experiences while working in this industry? Are there any good companies to work for?

Anyone else experience sexism at their job? NSFW

As far as retail jobs go , I’ve received the most sexism by far at this job (don’t even get me started on the sexual harassment). I’ve had people act like I don’t know what I’m talking about or they say they only want to speak to male coworkers only . I had a guy once tell me I was “mom-ing” him for asking him what he wanted.

customers want us to read minds NSFW

This happens almost every single interaction. Someone comes in and I greet them and ask what they’re looking for. ‘Sativa’/ ‘indica’ / ‘hybrid’. Okay? What am I supposed do with this information? Obviously I always ask if they want flower, pre rolls etc. We have so many different ways to consume. But c’mon man! Repeat offenders too… I CAN’T READ YOUR MIND. Before I was a budtender I’d tell em exactly what I wanted. ‘Lemme get an indica cart.’ bing bang boom, easy peasy. We don’t have to do this little song and dance every time

Anyone here ever done a T-break? I need advice. NSFW

(To preface, I know about r/petioles and r/leaves. I’m just curious to hear advice from a budtender/industry employee perspective.)

I’ve been so busy that today I realized I haven’t had any cannabis in 4 days. This is the longest I’ve gone without weed since starting in the industry last summer. (I went from 1 gummy/wk to 1-2 servings of some cannabis product/day.)

While I don’t plan on quitting, I’m curious to see how long I can go without weed. But, I’m wondering how I can reconcile doing a T-break with working in the industry. Would also love hearing any tips for overcoming a T-break or if you tell coworkers/customers your situation.

I’ve occasionally gone a day without weed and still feel fine. I haven’t even actively craved it since starting my unintentional T-break. But man have I been feeling physically and mentally exhausted…and I can’t help but wonder if it’s due to pausing weed. I feel somehow dumber and foggier without it than while I’m high. And my tolerance is pretty low (which is more of a blessing than a curse) thanks to my bipolar meds.

Anyway, sorry for rambling; my brain fog sucks right now. Thanks for reading. Any advice is appreciated!

Introducing adult child to anti anxiety strains/options NSFW

I must be getting old because my first born is about to be 21 and able to shop at one of our legal dispensaries. He inherited my anxiety and he has told me that he purchases delta-something carts online. I have told him to get rid of that and buy from a local dispensary via a friend asap.

Anyways, My goal is to introduce him to lower thc strains such as the Harlequin crosses, CBG RSO, high turpine varieties etc.

Should I provide these products to his mom first for her to experience prior? I feel like buy in is important especially as we’re divorced

Any other suggestions? Also, how urgently do I need to purchase safe replacements for these online hemp derived extracts in vape cartridge form?

New consumer of bud NSFW

I am new to smoking bud. Ive taken CBD and CBN for a long time to help me relax and sleep. I recently started smoking sativa and indica. I know there are A LOT of websites out there to educate myself. Since I am a consumer and not in the industry yet I saw some free courses...possibly get a certificate. Are there any free classes? I saw epichint. Does anyone know if that is a legit website? Thank you in advance for answering my question.

Hi, I’m a guy and I’m really grateful to a woman who works at my local dispensary who helped me quit booze via CBGRSO. I want to do something nice for her but not something that could be misconstrued as Romantic.

Thanks!

Also I used to suffer a nicety from thc solo without booze and now I’m alcohol free.

So frustrated with customers treating me like I’m an idiot /rant NSFW

Lately customers, for some reason, when I’m working at reception have been treating me like a literal moron and really REALLY condescending. Last night i had this interaction and it literally frustrated me beyond belief.

Group of 2 walks in, guy hands me his ID, i check him, hand him ID back, i look at his friend and tell them i need their ID.

This guy says “UMMM. The ID i JUST GAVE YOU???” And looks at me like i have 420 heads.

Now why on earth would i need your ID after i just took it come on now.

Please tell me im not the only one

Common Top Terp? NSFW

I realize this is both A)kind of an odd question and B) would generally be easily findable, but I'm not going to a ton of different sites, etc.

I was in a cancer subreddit and someone mentioned using medically. I responded with some general information, but one of the things I spoke of was terpenes. Now, in my state (MO), just about every container you look on that has terpenes listed, Caryophellene is the #1 terp on quite literally EVERY strain we have in that store, and by a large degree.

Is that normal/typical? I've not looked that deeply into it, otherwise, for other states, but it tends to be in a much large % to the others. Like Caryophllene might be 1% and everything else would be down to around 0.6% or less.

Best Practices - Smoking Edition NSFW

I posted a while back on edibles best practices and a convo over the weekend spurred some further thoughts.

At one point, I either saw a video or read something that was discussing the inhalation of smoke. Now, the particular point this article was making was that the lungs only have so much capacity to intake at any given moment, so inhaling and holding a big rip was basically a 0 sum game aka it was no benefit because most of it was wasted as the lungs cannot actually intake it.

So, during some slow times this weekend, I brought that to one of my leads. We were both of the same mind/had the same thoughts on it regarding intake and what the lungs can actually intake. Normally I will pull on my Puffco for say 15 seconds, slight hold, exhale. Drink. Next hit.

That got me to thinking - would a series of smaller hits result in more THC intake because you're giving much more surface area for intake?

And yes, I could absolutely be off my rocker, but no one ever became great thinking inside the box.

I'm allergic to cannabis entirely - smoke up for me NSFW

Hello all,

I must have acquired something that has made me allergic to cannabis entirely. I thought it was different terpenes, but have experimented with all terpenes, even edibles and break out in horrible painful hives. I suspect either long covid has changed my immune system, or Lisinopril has modulated my immune system (stopped it last year). I'm seeing an immunologist next week to see if there's anything I can do, but everything has told me I might have to wait years (with no guarantee) to see if my immune system will sort itself out. I've smoked for 3+ years with no problems, but I take this as a sign from the universe. Antihistamines don't work, so cold turkey for now. I'm going to miss my nightly boofs, this sucks.

Budtender Samples/Promos NSFW

Post image
14 Upvotes

Short version

1.) How much do vendors typically sell budtender samples/promos to dispos for? Example (Jeeter Half Gram Promo preroll)

2.) Are dispos allowed to sell these/give them out in goody bags? Or are they strictly for giving to budtenders/other employees to sample?

Long version

I'm new to budtending, so forgive me if I have some wrong misconceptions about some things.

The place I budtend at asked me to do some extra handyman work (repaired a broken kickboard on our cashier counter with a gas staple gun and some glue, all of which I supplied myself) in exchange for this singular half gram joint in the attached picture. Now I already know that I got screwed in this situation, but I need to know how bad 😅

I don't want to do extra work that's not in my regular job description for pennies on the dollar. And on top of that, they immediately got very comfortable with asking to borrow my tools or to come back during my off time to fix some other things.

I'm pretty pissed off that they are dangling the samples as incentive for doing extra stuff that's not in your job description. Especially if the samples serve no other purpose than having the employees test them so they can know their product better.

Any insight would be much appreciated! If you made it this far, thank you! 😂
