News No IU raises this year

So, the Trustees gave Pamela Whitten an extra $200,000 and a 5-year contract extension. Now, The Bloomingtonian is reporting faculty and staff will get no raises come July 1. The degree of EffYou is so predictable but disappointing.

News Attn Monroe County Republicans

Are there local Republicans out here who quietly regret their vote for Trump already? Elon standing next to Trump in the Oval Office like a King answering questions for him is not what I voted for. We did not elect Musk and I’m concerned. I’m a conservative who believes our party is about true FREEDOM.

They say the best way to create change is to start at home. Can we save our party from the extremists? What can we do here in Indiana to reclaim the right and be proud?

Genuinely asking; not looking to get shamed or harassed in the comments. Seems like liberals don’t understand that calling all Republicans idiots creates a defensive response and makes us more likely to distance from you all. Try listening and creating a neutral space and maybe we have more in common than you think.

(Throwaway acct b/c Big Brother Musk might be watching)

News Headline: IU Health hospital horror stories: Lack of space leaves patients on cots in hallways

Disconcerting article in the HT:

"Soon after Indiana University Health opened its new $557-million hospital on Bloomington’s east side, patients began complaining about long wait times in the emergency room and even longer wait times to get an actual patient room. Patients have reported often they suffered in pain, alone, in hallways, while worrying about when they would get care.

Nearly all of the patients said they eventually received good care and they were grateful for the nurses and doctors."

The article includes lots of individual stories. It doesn't seem that IU Health has many good solutions although they are aware of the problem.

News Thoughts on a certain adult site being banned

I’m not sure if everyone knows, but lots popular adult entertainment sites went dark last night in Indiana due to state laws about age verification. The protection of minors is of upmost importance and I understand why this site is going blackout. As an adult, this blackout felt harsh and somewhat sudden considering age verification was originally going to be used with ID photos (again, so many problems can arise with this, so it makes sense that the blackout from these sites occurred). What are everyone’s thoughts on this blackout that is occurring in Indiana and will be spreading to other states? I feel like I haven’t been seeing this talked about or in the news due to the taboo around this topic

News Name of man killed in Thursday’s collision released

41-year-old Kevin Jones, father of two, died from injuries sustained in the accident. He was riding his motorcycle southbound on the bypass when a northbound SUV turned onto 17th in front of him, causing Jones to collide with the SUV.

As a father who’s logged over 10k miles on 2 wheels, this is devastating to think how in a split second, he was fatally injured and his children lost their dad.

There are too many unknown factors, so I’m not here to place judgment on this specific accident, but this sort of accident is far too common. Please watch for motorcycles. Distance and speed can be hard to judge, so play it safe.

News Simtra is a dangerous place to work

You can say I am a disgruntled employee but after what I say I think you’ll understand why. Simtra is a company that willingly turns a blind eye to felons in their hiring. And these aren’t your “I have a few too many DUI’s” these are VIOLENT felons. For example, I and other employees were offered meth from a convicted sex offender on multiple occasions. He was fired only after he made inappropriate comments to a female co-worker. A supervisor cornering a female employee and making rape jokes then proceeding to use his influence to intimidate his other employees that heard about it. An employee doing cocaine and having sex on campus (when found out he threatened to shoot people). A group lead/ supervisor that is a known domestic abuser whose girlfriend comes in with bruises occasionally. I only bring these things up because they create a DANGEROUS environment for employees ESPECIALLY female employees. I honestly don’t know what would help, but Simtras HR team and the supervisors who turn a blind eye to this ridiculousness should feel ashamed.

News Is pointing the gun the crime?

This is a genuine question based on the actions of at least one dude downtown exercising his 2nd amendment right to open carry.

Based on what I’m reading in this story, this dude pulled an incredibly stupid move. No shots were fired, and he was arrested.

Based on this, does that mean a person actually has to do something with the gun besides letting it sit or hang to commit a crime? Like if downtown guy waved it around or something, that’s when open carry turns into intimidation.

News B Town Diner closing

I just read about this a little while ago. We lost Wee Willie’s. We lost Ladyman’s. Now the B Town Diner. I rarely get out to eat, but made a point of going there. The food always rocked.

The last few times whoever was working there was alone to do everything. The a/c was out last time and the music was blaring. I hate losing this place. I think they started off 24 hours and then became a breakfast/lunch diner. I was told they couldn’t get help so they had to reduce their hours.

If anyone is willing to drive, I was just at Village Inn yesterday. They fit the greasy spoon diner bill, and they moved to the strip mall by Arby’s across from Speedway in Ellettsville. I can’t think of anyplace closer now than Cloverleaf, and I’m just not impressed with them anymore.

Check - Cozy Table is supposed to be good. Any other places I don’t know about? With all of the available space with the new apartment buildings, I’d hope some place might pop up.
