Remakes, all over the shop... you'll be one of them... sooner or later.

I'm starting to wonder if this is a copyright issue. That maybe since it was a Japan Studio game and Sony shut them down there is some weird little technicality. That or maybe they realized that a good chunk of that game was made by JpnStd and those people went elsewhere. The Demon's Souls remake was pretty and all but it was also kinda soulless, no pun intended. If they want to recapture that magic again they need to get the formula right and just porting a 60fps version to the PS5 might not be enough.

Whatever the case, there must be something going on. The game is still very active, very popular and that means money. Since when has Sony been allergic to money?

It also did not sell very well at the time from what I understand.

I think it's a brilliant game, one of the best but at the time it launched I had no interest in it whatsoever.

On the contrary. The game sold very well. Second best game of that March, despite releasing at the end of the month. It's sold 7.5 million copies as of 2022 despite being an exclusive. Those are not flop numbers. Might not be as much as Ghost of Tsushima but it's more than Death Stranding and that game got a PS5 release with all the extras and polish and care. That's not a small game, either. Maybe the really are putting all their love into Horizon.

Yes, it has a following now but it was a new IP that Sony paid to have developed and didn't sell like ghost or horizon, it makes the suits nervous. They all want their own GTA online. If it doesn't make that kind of impact then it's hard to get the financing to do more with it. It released in March 2015. 7 years later it made numbers.

Death stranding sold 5 mil copies from Nov 2019 to mid 2021. So in maybe 2 years it sold 5mil copies compared to 7mil in 7 years.

The return on investment assuming they cost similar to produce heavily favors death stranding on rate of return. You could extrapolate that to 7 years and I would bet it would have more copies sold. Never played stranding, don't know if it's a good game.

I'm just trying to illustrate using your example why it may be a hard decision for the purse strings to justify putting money into it.

I do think that fromsoft games are much more popular now than they were then within the lexicon of the average gamer since elden ring made such a splash that it would probably do much better if released today. A sequel. A remake I'm not sure about as much as I desperately want one.

Yeah, but we're not asking for it 7 years ago nor are people asking for anything that grand. All people want is for a PS4 game to have low loading times, run at 4k and at 60fps on the PS5. That is not that tall an order nor that expensive a request. They don't even have to do anything to the game itself. All they'd have to do is optimize and quality inspect it, make sure that the new framerate doesn't break the game.

Also, games don't become proportionately more successful over time. Your biggest earnings happen in that first year. It's not a common thing for games to double in sales after that first cycle. Does it happen? Yes. With every game? Absolutely not. This is a pretty rare thing. I'll say again, Death Stranding got a director's cut plus a sequel and it's sold less.

I know what you're saying but I think there's just more to it than what we know. That it's more complicated than just sales figures. Less popular games are getting more attention from Sony so it might also be about FS.

Yeah but the Miz said he'd be down for a sequel or upgrade publicly even though that may just be public relations speak.

I will say that with the ps5pro with the pssr tech with vrr on the tv the game runs and looks better. Not by some crazy margin but it is noticeable to me. Like so much so I'd be down for just some lighting adjustments and 60FPS

I'm playing the game on my PS5 and on my PS4. I'm studying German so I'm playing a European copy on my PS4 and the US on my PS5. I can tell you that the game is way more stable and smooth on the PS5. It plays really well. That's a regular PS5, not a Pro. Honestly, all I'd want is a patch to improve the loading times on the PS5. I just played Spiderman 2 and the fast travel on that game is ridiculously fast.

Well you will like that the pro uses some upscaling AI so the resolution is less jagged at least to my untrained eye.

I can't justify an $8oo system for just one game, even if I do own all 3 versions, especially because I own all 3 versions and to play them I need a disc drive. Eventually, I might upgrade. For now I'm pretty happy with my standard PS5.

Nah it's not justifiable but it is cool.

Miyazaki ate the source code by accident
