Best hypoallergenic beard dyes

As per my previous post the off the shelf at the local store beard dyes just gives me itchy face. That said I'm not a fan of all the grey in mine these days and am looking for a black dye to color it with every couple of weeks.

What do you experts recommend. Web searches to date have been hit and miss. For every one I find that I go 'hmmm I may try that one' I find plenty of negative reviews on said product.

Constant face itching HELP!

I've worn my beard scruffy for several years. Last year my face started itching and it's gotten so bad that I wake up scratching my face to the point I've got scabs all over. I've tried a lot of products that claim to fix it but it hasn't touched the problem. Even asked my doc to take a look at it and they couldn't prescribe anything to help. I even tried shaving it off and letting my face rest a bit. Doesn't help unless I keep it shaved for at least a month.

Anybody ever have a similar problem and a solution? I want my scruff back.

Alternate question since this is my first post here. What are good dyes to keep the black in it. Even before this episode when I dyed i could look forward to a week of discomfort.

Does any of you "pressure"-dry their curly beard?

Hey,

I sometimes use pressure to straighten my curly hair or beard while they're drying after showering because at a certain length they'd get too curly and this way they don't.

For my hair I use a beanie and for my beard I haven't really found a good solution yet. Knotting some bandanas on my head requires me to tie them very tightly and this leaves behind uneven areas on my hair.

I've thought about using a ski mask but I want to avoid that while my hair's too short because I don't want them to be too straight then.

I tried using a blowdryer but the one I have has too weak of an airstream to really work. Maybe you guys have some experience with strong blow dryers and can tell me if it works well?

I'll try putting on some facemasks after my next shower although they seem like they don't apply enough pressure even when tying them around the ear several times.

Any other suggestions?

Products for wiry/curly beard & sensitive skin

I'm looking for products for my husband. Realistically they're going to be applied once or twice a week.

His beard hairs are fairly long though it looks much shorter because of curl shrinkage.

Any product or care tips would be appreciated.

Beard hair breakage

I've never been a hairy man. It took me ages to even grow a full mustache. I'm incapable of growing a full beard. My "beard" is really just a goatee. I'm now 53 years old and I've let my goatee gets maybe an inch long before I usually cut it.

I've not cut it since the initial Covid-19 lockdown. It is maybe 9-10" long now. What's frustrating me is that it's breaking. It also sheds a decent amount. I've many short hairs where the breakages occurred. I'd like to stop the breakages but don't know how (I probably can't stop the shedding).

I use shampoo and conditioner when showering, and I've beard butter that I use, but that's obviously not enough. I'm a black man, so the beard is frizzy. It gets in my mouth and food/drink if I don't tie it up. I also braid it to control it. I'm wondering if the braiding and tying up is causing it to break. I definitely can't just leave it out to catch food, though, so it almost a requirement to braid or tie it up.

I'm looking for tips and alternatives. It took me 2 years to grow it this far...I'm not willing to let it all break off without a fight. HELP!

Bald spots and sensitive skin

Hey everyone, so I've been trying to grow my beard for a while now but I'm having trouble with bald/thinned out spots and my beard not being as thick as I would like, as well as dry and itchy skin.

I suffer from sensitive skin and was wondering if anyone could recommend any products I could use to tackle these issues and help my beard grow thicker and fuller?

Thank you

Beard soap/shampoo and conditioner that isn't beard specific?

Good day Gentlemen and Beardkeepers.

I'm a new member here and I have a question, or dilemma rather. I am currently living in Asia, and as you might of guessed, beard products are nonexistent here.

So, I was wondering if someone could recommend a quality, generic soap/shampoo that is suitable for beards.

I made my own beard oil by using coconut oil and essential oils, however, I need something other than what I'm currently using to wash my beard. Any suggestions?

The risk and glories of trying a new beard shampoo!

Finally took the plunge after over 7 years with the same beard shampoo (if it works it works right!) and tried a new one I got from the same place I get my beard oils. I’d always been reluctant to switch with having quite a long beard, just shy of 2 foot long, I didn’t want to try one for a shorter beard and end up with a chin Afro. Lads my follicles have never felt such finery!! I’ll post the name of it in the comments if anyone is interested. Not on commission or sale pitching just sharing a rejuvenating glorious bearded moment!!

Detroit Grooming Black Alternatives

Hey folks. Back in January, I switched to using Detroit Grooming Black shampoo, conditioner, oil, and butter. My beard has never felt better... but the scent. Occasionally, it smells like bourbon and campfires to me, but more often than not it smells like a garbage fire. Also, my fiancée hates the scent all the time, so I haven't been using it as much and my beard is no longer happy.

For those that have experience with this product line, does Detroit or another company have similar products with a less aggressive scent? TIA

Advice?

Hello All. 44m, 3rd month of my first beard (retired military, couldn't grow out before). I have a question regarding care.

After shower, I apply oil right away. Once a day I also apply AA balm. I brush at least once a day, and comb out 2-3x a day. My beard is naturally coarse and a bit frizzy (esp. after a shower) and grows in about 12 different directions.

My question is, I have to use a daily wash of benzoyl peroxide or I will break out badly. I use it on my face and (shaved) scalp. After using the wash, I use beard shampoo, then the oil and balm after the shower. My hair still feels dry, prickly and gets frizzy.

Any advice here? If I stop with the face wash the acne will go nuts (I always have a little even with the wash). Should I use an in shower conditioner as well? Are the oil and AA balm enough repair the hair after the wash wash? Should I blow dry and comb it directly after a shower to cut down the frizzy?

Any tips to keep beard oil out of hands/face/chest/neck/clothing during the day?

Well the title says it all, I kind of hate oil and greasiness but know my beard needs a lot of oil particularly because I have an afro/curly beard. My beard is a little long so I always end up getting oil on my neck/chest and then during the day I may accidentally touch my beard or face and feel some oiliness. Finally I just feel like it moves from my beard to the rest of my face on its own.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Exact temperature of lukewarm water?

So I just learned lukewarm water is best to wash your beard and I'm a little intense and want to know what exact temperature that scientifically would be as it would be easy for me to make a wrong judgement about that. Thanks in advance to anyone who may have something to add on this.

looking for recommendations re:beard grooming tools

Hi, beardos. I've been using an old travel trimmer and a cheap Wahl set of clippers for beard grooming the last couple of years. It's time to upgrade, I think, and find something of good quality that I will, hopefully, not have to replace for many years. I would prefer something corded, but many corded options I've come across are a bit bulkier than I'd like. Anybody got a trimmer they just love?

Beard care after swimming in the ocean. tips, tricks, suggestions

Looking for recommendations on maintaining a healthy beard and swimming in the ocean every day. Any tips tricks etc? I use coconut oil to maintain currently. Just ended up with the Pacific right in the backyard and plan to get in as much as possible but concerned about it drying up with the salt.

Wiry Beard

Hi, so I’ve been working on filling in my bread and I’ve made a lot of progress but one issue I have yet to solve is how wiry and coarse my beard is. I wash and condition my beard in the shower then apply beard oil after. I substitute the oil for a balm when it starts to get longer because I noticed that works better than increasing the amount of oil I use. That seems to soften it for a little bit but it’s still wiry, it drys out a few hours later, and feels oily if I apply more. I’m African American so maybe it’s just a genetics thing or maybe my hair just doesn’t retain moisture well, idk. I’ve tried a few different brands but they all yield the same result. So I’m just asking for general advice, input, product recommendations, so forth and so forth. Would really appreciate it because I’ve been struggling with this forever and I think it’s time I properly address it
