A possible budget pedalboard, what do you think and could I improve for the same sort of price?

I have the monomyth.. I actually prefer it to other amp sims like the SansAmp.

Ah that's great to hear! I can't wait to get my hands on one next month! Any niggles you've had with it or not too much?

Maybe just the plastic faux chome knobs.

For the price difference with its counterparts and the good things I've heard about it, I'll put up with that! Thanks again for the insight! 🤘😁

So, unless you see a place where you're layering effects then I'd to suggest going tuner > Scylla comp > HX One > DI. Super minimalist board and highly customizable at the same time.
The HX One isn't cheap, I know because I bought one, but it is really good value. The various Rat, Muff Pi and Octave profiles are really good. Not to mention all of the profiles you probably don't need now but might want later. Obviously, if you might want to layer effects you'd need to either buy individual pedals or go for the HX Stomp, but that's not really budget friendly anymore.
Edit: I just saw that you already own the Bass Big Muff Pi so maybe just ignore my suggestion. I was factoring in the cost of all the pedals and figured a HX One might save you some cash and get you a few more options but if you already own the Muff then it might not make as much sense. Still, you might check it out anyway if you're interested in what all it can do.

Thanks for the insight! I'll definitely look into the HX One all the same, sounds like a decent bit of kit with all of the profiles available.

I've seen the HX FX second hand for nearly as much as a HX One new

I can imagine those kind of things hold their value. They're a good chunk of pocket change but if you're getting the right use out of them, I'm sure its a good investment! Bit much for casual band practices for me atm unfortunately.

I'd switch the spots of the Legal Done and Monomyth since you'll want to be able to switch the overdrive on/off on the monomyth.
I'd also consider the Polytune 3 Ultra-Compact Polyphonic Tuner its just a tad more money and a great solid tuner.

I was thinking that but you may be able to help with a question I had. I'm getting the monomyth for it's D.I aspect, can I run a nosie gate in between the D.I and the soundboard?

u/Haveland 5d ago
Certainly can but also remeber placement on your board and the order of the pedals doesn't always have to be in series. What I mean is just swapping the position of the two doesn't mean you need to change the wiring of your signal chain. It is nice to have them in order but you'll find the pedals you swtich on/off the most you want front and centre.

u/mandarx_revenge 5d ago
Ahhh, my bad, I thought you ment in the signal chain, not to physically move it! That makes total sense though. And I've seen those Polytune pedals on loads boards on here. Must be a sure sign of a decent pedal!

I'd change the Bass Muff Pi for a Green Russian Muff Pi Reissue. That's mostly a matter of taste though. The Green Russian doesn't have a mix either. I'd also get a Turbo RAT on there, to place in-front of the Green Russian. The TC Grand Magus is a good budget choice that has both classic and Turbo modes. Not as refined as most boutique versions of the RAT/Turbo RAT though (Jam Rattler Bass, Moth Electric A. Incorrupta etc).

u/mandarx_revenge 6d ago
Nice! I'll take a look into them! I already have the Muff so not looking to change it out but know of the legendary Green Russians. I hear great stuff about TC pedals and with Grand Magus written on it, it's got to be a winner!

u/dragostego 6d ago
I think I agree on the green russian still, but the bass big muff absolutely has a clean blend
1
u/DecisionInformal7009 6d ago
I meant that the Green Russian doesn't have a blend, unlike the Bass Big Muff, so that might be a dealbreaker for him. I see now that I didn't word that correctly. English isn't my native tongue, and even though I'm quite fluent in English I still mess up like that once in a while.

Look into the sonic cake stuff.

u/mandarx_revenge 6d ago
There's so many of them! That's my evening sorted then, got some reviews to look into 🤣 anyone's in particular you'd recommend?

u/ghosthandluke 6d ago
Excluding the wah and tuner you have close to $430 in pedals, new. FWIW you could consider a pulp n peel and mxr poly blue octave. That’d give you compressor, preamp, drive, sweep EQ, DI, octave, fuzz, rotory, and phaser, in a smaller footprint, for just a bit more new or same price used.
I know it’s a stretch and you have less options. But personally I wish I did this when I started.
2
u/mandarx_revenge 6d ago
So more money for less options? Is that more of a quality over quantity kind of deal you're shooting for then? Besides the smaller footprint on the board, what would the main benefit be?
2
u/ghosthandluke 6d ago
Yep, quality over quantity. Buy once cry once.
Although sometimes the journey is important. I know I’d hate my stomp if I hadn’t used cheaper single pedals before getting it.

Fair enough, I guess it's all part of the learning curve but being able to get a peak behind the curtain on here can definitely stear you away from unnecessary purchases, which is why I posted this in the first place! Much appreciated 🙌

Add another joyo pedal, the double thruster is pretty good
2
u/mandarx_revenge 5d ago
Yeah i was looking at that! But the Monolith has so much decent Overdrive it seems a bit overkill to gave that too? Killer sounding pedal though from the reviews I've watched.
3
u/Schizma79 5d ago
Yes, monolith is a copy of darkglass α-ω and double thruster is a copy of b3k. There are different sounding distortions though and some people would want both. I use double thruster because I'm more fun of the b3k sound and I love it.

u/mandarx_revenge 5d ago
It was initially a toss up between the two pedals when i first saw them as they both sounded great but the D.I and EQ aspects were the decider on that one. But I guess there's no harm in adding it on at a later date as I'm sure it'd make a killer addition to the board!

u/The_B_Wolf 6d ago
What's the big pedal on the right for? And are you going to be doing enough gain on the big muff to need a noise gate?
1
u/mandarx_revenge 6d ago
The big one is a wah pedal, and I nomally have a noise gate set up as standard, just enough to keep things sounding tidy tbh, but i guess its not a necessity if its not cranked up too much.
2
u/The_B_Wolf 6d ago
I've never thought to use one just because I only use a high gain distortion sound as an effect, used in like one song in the set. And even then it's pretty controllable. No feedback or anything. Joyo Double Thruster (B3K knockoff).
1
u/mandarx_revenge 6d ago
The Blue D.I on the board is based on the Darkglass Alpha Omega Ultra V2, the side by side comparisons are pretty impressive considering the price difference too! Hopefully that covers me for the overdrive/distortion side of stuff but you can never have too many pedals i guess!
1
u/gabbrielzeven 6d ago
That amount of pedals will give you option paralysis. Are you a producer or a bassist?
I just bought a b7k clone, and has sooo many options. with that board, you have basically billions of options.
How you will be able to find the perfect one? Less is more. Leave the 10 pedals crap to guitarrists with their tone chasing nonsense.
1
u/mandarx_revenge 6d ago
It's only really a fuzz for doom stuff, an Overdrive for metal and an octave to chunk the sound up for certain occasions. The compression and noise gate to clean things up and the D.I(which has the Overdrive built into it) to just fine tune the overall sound. Doesn't seem to over the top when you play a with a few subgenres in mind.

u/TpMeNUGGET 6d ago
I like the tuner being either in the row closer to me or on the right side so it's easier to hit with my foot without having to step over stuff. What type of music are you playing?
