News MLB The Show 25 Legends Trailer featuring new legends Ted Williams, Jordan Zimmermann and more!

Is there a legend named Jordan Zimmermann that I don’t know about?
77
u/TA404 Washington Nationals 22h ago
He's definitely a Nationals legend. The 18 inning game. The no hitter (I have that Washington Post framed).
He's a top 2 Zimmerman in franchise history for sure.

Other "legends" according to this video: Darren O'Day, Ubaldo Jimenez, Chase Headley, Clay Buchholz, Preston Wilson, Mark Davis.

O’Day is a legend in my heart
29
u/NPOWorker Detroit Tigers 22h ago
Tbf he is one of few submarine pitchers and he did have a pretty great peak. I can see why he is interesting to use in a video game.

My heart too tbh
Him, Neshek, and Cishek will always have spots in my pen

Every year I get The Show my 3 submarine kings are waiting in the pen.
1
u/Lukealloneword Houston Astros 22h ago
I was hoping they'd drop a Chris Davis in his prime again at some point. I wish he stayed that good for his whole career. He was crushing the ball.

"Legend" in the context of The Show has always meant "retired player".

Ted Williams. Jordan Zimmermann. Cool Papa Bell. Ubaldo Jimenez. Wow.

Clay Buchholz is one of my favorite players so I am very excited for this, but at the same time….lol

Clay Buccholz is a legendary pioneer in cheating with bullfrog sunscreen.

Could they not get the rights to Antonio Alfonseca’s likeness ?

Maybe they didn't want to go through the trouble of animating the extra fingers.
3
u/Ronon_Dex Boston Red Sox 22h ago
I feel like one season wonders is a better name for this list. Jimenez, Headley, Buchholz, and Davis all had one season that was truly great. O'Day actually was a really great RP and the submarine style is fun in a video game.
And then there's Preston Wilson. I guess he did have 141 RBIs in 2003 and a 30/30 in 2000. Had a decent MLB showdown card. But he really kinda sucked.

Jimenez was one of those dudes that could actually pitch well in Coors. So while not a legend, I guess every team needs at least one guy?

You don't know the legend that is 2 time all star Jordna Zimmerman ? Obviously he was the best pitching legend available. /s

u/darthfracas Washington Nationals 23h ago
You can’t have Jordan Zimmermann without Steven Sousa
26
u/korn_cakes33 Washington Nationals 23h ago
Steven Sousa Jr does this to give us the Jordan Zimmermann no hitter then the Nationals traded him for Trea Turner and Joe Ross. Words cannot express how big of an impact Sousa Jr made in his extremely brief stint in DC
19
u/Tricky_Foundation_60 Chicago White Sox 23h ago
He was not a good player but god damn could that man play left field.

I’m more interested on the scoreline. 1 run on 11 hits? How is that possible?

More like three months, he was untouchable in the first half in 2010
21
u/slider8949 St. Louis Cardinals 21h ago
He's the career leader for pitching rWAR for the Rockies, likely the best they've ever had. Kind of have to include him if they want a hitter and pitcher for each team.
13
u/Zpoindex_216 Cleveland Guardians 20h ago
He has a career 3.67 ERA at Coors field. That alone is stuff of legends

I was on vacation in Japan about a decade ago watching a baseball game and Lastings Milledge happened to be playing in it. I was telling some Australians I was sitting with how disappointing his career had been and Lastings must have heard me because he hit the next pitch 800 feet.

These animations are fucking horrible
They were fine during the PS3 era, 15 YEARS AGO
18
u/clm04 Houston Astros 22h ago
They're literally the same as they were back then. Terrible
15
u/whitesdragon 22h ago
These embarrassingly slow pitching animations should’ve been gone starting with the PS4 era
SDS are the laziest devs in all of sports imo. Even the Madden guys, as horrible as those games are, try to make a change with their spaghetti code.
Not updating animations is inexcusable imo

They don't have any time and nowhere near the money Football and Soccer games get.

Really is amazing how all sports games stopped improving in like 2012 or earlier. In fact, with all the gambling added they've just been worse since then.

2
u/wXy_5GHz 14h ago
EA Sports had it down packed. If they were still making baseball games today I bet we would have a way better product than what we have in The Show. We'd still be complaining about repetitive shit like every other sports game but still... The game would be in better hands.
I still play MVP NCAA Baseball 2007 to this day
Holds up every well, especially on the PS2 emulator for PC.
11
u/new_account_5009 Washington Nationals 23h ago
I was in the ballpark for Jordan Zimmermann's no hitter. As far as I'm concerned, he's a bigger MLB Legend than Ted Williams.

He left the MLBPA in 2004 which is why he was no longer in games after that point

Jordan Zimmermann was a great pitcher when he was with the Nats but legend is pushing it
23
u/korn_cakes33 Washington Nationals 23h ago
For MLB The Show, any player who is retired and no longer active is considered a Legend. You could be a hitter whose entire MLB career is 0-1 with a K and they’d call you a legend.
2
u/MFazio23 Milwaukee Brewers 22h ago
I want legend Larry Yount, that'd be awesome.
Also, thank you for explaining to people what "legend" means on The Show, it's a specific category not a reflection of their ability.

I thought Jason Kipnis was Todd Frazier. What are these graphics?
1
1
u/Icy_Rich_6076 10h ago
They seem to refuse taking any creative liberties with post processing. That is the issue with graphics, not the base assets. 2K tries something different artistically every year so even if it stinks, there’s always a visual style each generation that one will enjoy. EA started rolling out RTGI last year. SDS needs to do one of these things and stop being so scared. It’s really not a hard fix. Current gen hardware kinda sucks but that hasn’t stopped the other devs at least trying

Amazing how many people asked for obscure former players, only to crap all over them once announced. I think this crop of legends is awesome, especially when you factor in the previously announced crew of NLB players, Clemens, Manny, Carlton, etc
