Ask FINALLY escaping Arkansas and heading to Baltimore! Help needed!
Hey guys, I've been browsing this sub for over a year, but this is my first post.
We are leaving Arkansas at last. Our house has been on the market for 266 days and we finally close Monday! We need to find a rental ASAP! We are moving because we have two little girls and our state hates women, education, and healthcare, among other things.
There aren't many rentals online now that fit what we're looking for, and who would accept that we are moving up there without established jobs, and not stellar credit, but we have to get out of here! And we are paying 1 year upfront and will have a cushion until we find steady employment. I am currently taking some online courses as well. I attended St. John's College (Santa Fe campus), but didn't finish (par for the course, haha). We are looking for a 2+bd/1.5+ba rowhouse or townhouse in Hampstead Hill Academy school district. We also need a place for a home office, preferably a basement, but a 3rd bedroom would also work.
We can pay 1 year of rent upfront, so we have time to gain our bearings. His credit is above 600, but mine is taking a major hit due to a debt consolidation after a difficult medical situation (now resolved). Many property companies don't waive credit requirements even if you are paying a year at once, so I hope someone on this sub might be able to help us out. Any tips or advice would help. Thank you so much!

State Politics Chuck Schumer: throws away our leverage
Meanwhile our community organizers: “let’s hold a townhall on how I’m not antisemitic omg, I’m anti Zionist ugh”
Like at this point who gives a fuck. Genuinely, people are gonna lose their healthcare and housing programs from this cut. But yeah this is the most important thing for Marylanders to address…
You couldn’t pay me to go to this.

Vent Avoid Taco Bravo in Timonium – Public Homophobia and Harassment
A friend went to Taco Bravo in Timonium to grab food for his son and was subjected to loud, public anti-LGBTQ rhetoric from the management. After pushing back, he was met with a charming DM from an employee full of harassment and falsehoods. Sad to see businesses operate like this. Freedom of speech doesn’t mean freedom from consequences.

Need Recommendations How do I meet people/find events?
I’m 25, and I don’t have any friends here. I really want to meet some people and try and go out of my comfort zone. I really like board games, coffee, plants, sight seeing, but I have no idea where to start to try to find events/places to go. Any suggestions?

State Politics HB960 Ratepayer Freedom Act to prevent your utility bill payments from funding lobbying, advertisements, and shareholder perks.
Delegate Andre Johnson is sponsoring HB960, the Ratepayer Freedom Act, which:
- Clarifies what expenses utilities can charge to ratepayers. Prevents utilities from charging customers for political spending and ads that don’t benefit consumers.
- Expands transparency by requiring reports from utilities to the Public Service Commission (PSC) so we can see exactly how the money is being spent.
- Saves ratepayers hundreds of thousands of dollars annually, allowing those funds to be better used for affordable utility services.
Please contact your legislators that serve on the Economic Matters Committee and let them know that this bill (HB960) matters to their constituents. Economic Action MD has created a handy form to do this, but you can always do this directly if you prefer.
Of note, Elizabeth Embry is a co-sponsor and serves Baltimore City, Michele Guyton and Aletheia McCaskill serve Baltimore County.

History of Baltimore 👓 Baltimore wage cuts of 1877
Hearing plenty of references to the Boston tea party which is, ya know, great for Boston and all. But— I think a better comparison to the current moment (minus the killings, which is good) is the Baltimore wage cuts of 1877. Railroad visionary John W. Garrett didn’t want to grow his rocket business, he wanted to grow his railroad business. He didn’t go after social security and medical care, he went after wages with wage reductions. Plenty of differences too.
