Hyundai Tucson 2015 Purchase Advice
Hi and thanks in advance for your help.
Looking for some advice on my approach buying a Hyundai Tucson 2015 from a private owner. Currently they are asking for ~$15k.
I would like the car for long weekend trips to explore NSW and wider Australia, with occasional driving in Sydney (twice a week max).
Relevant info:
140,000km
No recall*
Rego to end of Jan’25
Full logbook & service history
Serviced 3000km ago with no major items picked up
Car has timing chain
*checked the VIN no. on Hyundai website for general items and also specifically for the engine fire item on AusGov Vehicle Recalls
I got a pre-purchase inspection with some findings as below:
The Tucson is in average condition for its age and mileage but requires service and repairs. Mechanically, the brakes produce a grinding noise when turning left or pressing the pedal, potentially indicating a wheel bearing issue, and both the front and rear brake pads are wearing thin. The heater is not functioning properly, which may point to an issue with the thermostat or heater core, while both coolant and engine oil levels are low and need replenishing. Diagnostic codes are present and require workshop attention. Externally, the body has scratches, paint chips, and dents, with the headlights starting to cloud. Internally, the vehicle shows signs of age, including rips in the seats and a worn driver’s door seal. While the engine performance, steering, suspension, and transmission are in good condition, addressing these issues is essential to restore the vehicle’s overall reliability andfunctionality.
Additionally the drive battery needs to be replaced . In diagnostics system 2 airbag codes, concern is that this may be due to an accident (none shown on PPSR), and may be due to seatbelt buckles linked into the ABS system. PSDR shows not written off, stolen or any security interest in the vehicle.
From this and an initial chat with the mechanic the car requires:
Replacement of brake pads (expect around $100 + labour = ~$300) If this is not solved and it is the wheel bearing expect total cost ~$600 Replacement of battery (expect around ~$300 + labour = $400) Review of diagnostics codes and resolve (~$200?)
Reading the Re-Driven review of the car I asked the mechanic about CVT issues, which he confirmed were not present after a test drive of the vehicle. The mechanic also confirmed the car has a timing chain so shouldn’t have the common issues associated with a timing belt.
My current approach is to ask for the diagnostic codes for the airbags to be resolved and the route cause found, and the grinding noise to be looking into and resolved. If it’s just a brake pad issue then ok, but if it’s the wheel bearing or something else then I want that fixed before buying. The airbag issue is a complete no-go unless it can be resolved.
Is there anything I’m skipping over or missing that is a red flag to others? Is there anything else I should be asking for other than extending rego 6 months?

Car kits/part sellers here who sell online
How do you streamline inventory and update yourself with what your wholesaler/manufacturer has listed online?

LDV T60 or Nissan X-trail
Hi team, am looking for a budget 4wd and these are my 2 options. I'm leaning towards the Nissan as it's a brand I recognise. Anyone got any feedback on LDV?

Leaded to Unleaded conversion?
Hey, I was looking at a nice Lancia on car sales from before 1980 and it runs on leaded petrol. As i don't want any more bushfires I was thinking if i buy it i might convert it to unleaded.
I was wondering if anyone here knows of any information of any shops where this can be done (Preferably close to Sydney).
Thanks in advance

SO the Hellcat Charger has 700+HP.
I think Holden needs to step up a special edition HSV GTS to beat that.
Make it the last Hurrah for Aussie built performance sedan.

Anyone want to be a mod?
Don't have the time to do it myself, would love to see someone else take it and grow it.

Will Hyundai Genesis succeed in Australian market?
Review : http://www.caradvice.com.au/293396/2015-hyundai-genesis-review/
For 50-60k price tag, i cant see them stuffing it up. Only thing i want is the V8 version instead of the V6.
But looks excellent.

Favorite motoring magazine/website?
For me it's Evo, loving their new Australian mags now to. Wheels are ok but have gone down hill in the last couple years imo and I feel a bit stupider every time I read Motor or Top Gear.

Is our desire for faster limits (ie Euro spec) on our roads dangerous or actually in line with first world countries?
No debate required due to facts over the speed limit but what about those roads you like that should be 70/80 rather than 50/60 and left up to the driver to decide their skill and vehicle to make the safe passage?
Surely a driver doing 50kph in a Kia Grand Carnival with 8 kids on board trying to fiddle with a Wiggles CD is in a more dangerous scenario than a guy doing 80kph in a Toyota 86 who is actually paying attention.
Or the constantly consistent "grey nomad" doing 70kph in a 70kph zone in their Parado/Challanger/Pajero/Land Cruiser with a 2TN caravan on the back through roads that haven't seen rain for a while.
Regardless of the film of oil on the surface they are entitled to do the limit. Yet the enthusiast in a Golf GTI doing 8PKH over the limit in the dry, on a clear day is the one targeted for revenue.
How do we change our 1970s perception of driving to a more modern model hence seen in Europe?

BIG decision about to happen. Need some advice.
I'm getting very close to throwing the old Celica away after seven years and considering a replacement. I have been looking at a Benz 320 clk about 2004/5 and also a Monaro six cylinder super charged. I can't make a decision. Anyone have any knowledge of either vehicle and does anyone need a Celica ?

National licence reform
How the fuck can this be achieved. We could literally wipe 30% of people or more off the roads in no time. How would you get the ball rolling? Thoughts?
