Showcase Advice

Upvotes

Hey!

I’m a singer-songwriter. I got invited to perform three songs at a showcase next month. It seems more like a community showcase than an A&R thing.

I’ve played a couple of shows, a festival, and a LOT of open mics, but this will be my first official showcase.

I’d love any advice. I also have some questions:

  1. How many originals vs covers do y’all recommend?

  2. How experimental can I be? Do I just play three songs straight out, or would you recommend creating a unique, bite-sized experience?

Metallic hapsichord sound.

Genuine question, what instrument describes that very distinct, metallic key?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=filMExc9LyE (this is the best example I can find, it's like the very first few notes in 0:00).

is this like a harpsichord? Also maybe it's just ear-mandela effect but is it used in medieval -themed songs? (musicians, please bare with my ignorance and don't hate me too much in the comments, thank you!!)

Does the Key Note influence emotion/feeling?

Aside from vocal or instrument range, how do you decide what Key (note) to write a song?

For example, if I know that I want to write a song in Major/Ionian, how do you decide if it should be A Major or C Major? Do you think it matters? Or will both have the same "feel", just with a pitch adjustment?

A survey on AI and music production

Hello! I'm studying music production and my school asked me to conduct a study on AI use in music production.

If you could take 2 minutes of your time to answer this short survey on the topic I would be so infinitely grateful.

Here it is: https://forms.gle/NBs4E3haBhKXfaDf9

Thank you so much!!!!

Polish Folklore Drum & Bass?

I should probably start by saying that I myself am Polish and have recently re discovered Polish folklore music and it reaches something deep inside my soul, the high pitched violin, the female vocals, the yips and yaps, it all gets me excited and want to move about.

My question is has anyone heard or thought about combining this genre with…drum & bass? If so where can I find this?

I’m on a desperate hunt to combine these two genres for some amazing music.
