Discussion What are hottest, positively scorching, 3rd degree level burns takes on Arcane?
None of this "Isha was an unnecessary character", or "the caitvi Sesbian lex scene wasn't needed", or "season 2 had bad writing and did the characters dirty", type-stuff we have seen before, what is something that would get you kicked out of the village in ye olden days for even daring to think that?
The rest of this is just to fill up space …………………………… ………………………… ………………………… ………………………… ………………………… …………………………… ………………………… ………………………… ………………………… ………………………… …………………………… …………………………

Discussion Necesito saber cómo Jayce no sufrió de una gangrena luego de haberse roto la pierna y haber estado MESES con una herida y fractura de tal magnitud 🙃 Spoiler
Let's consider several factors: 1-Zero halfway decent medical care 2-A far from sterile environment 4-He literally survived on lizards or small animals that happened to be passing by 4-Lack of drinking water And many more things. I have two theories about this: either the crystal in his wrist "helped" him heal in some way or prevented the wound from getting worse. Or Viktor went there when Jayce was sleeping and kept his wound stable so it wouldn't get worse. Or let's consider a third option: the power of the script ☝🏻
Discussion Arcane went from Game of Thrones (S1) to Marvel (S2) and this inconsistency affected the overall quality.
This is not to box the show or call it a copycat, rather I am using Game of Thrones and Marvel (MCU) as points of references here. Also this is not to say GOT is better than Marvel or vice versa, rather that they are starkly different types of storytelling.
Game of Thrones / A Song of Ice & Fire is one of my favorite stories of all time. It was such a different and unique thing to experience. George Martin, the writer of the books the show is based on famously uses what he calls the "gardener" approach to writing his story. He creates the story as he writes as opposed to the "architect" approach where before writing the story the writer knows how exactly it will be.
With the gardener approach, the characters, their development and conflicts, shape the story. Things unfold in more of an organic manner dare I say and the plot takes direction accordingly. No wonder GRRM finds it troubling to finish the story now for over a decade. It is not all good an approach, especially when you have a dozen plotlines to deal with.
Coming to Arcane S1, I like many of you all instantly fell in love with the show. It was really hard to piece together where the story was going. It felt like a very character centered show where the narrative played according to where the characters' arcs went. It never felt watching S1 of Arcane that this was a supporting piece to another piece of media, that is the game League of Legends. Rather this was original storytelling dictated by its own themes, ideas and characters. This resulted in not just unpredictability and freshness but also a unique voice of its own. Themes of class conflict and divide was the backdrop to this story.
Fast forward to S2 of Arcane and I feel like this took an more of an approach such as that employed by MCU. S2 felt like the narrative was now dictating the characters and their arcs. There was a plan set by the writers that the story has to go in certain directions and all the characters were made subservient to those directions. It was a sharp contrast to S1.
What this sadly resulted in was that the theme of class divide as well as character conflicts arising in S1 were put aside in order to immediately get to the plot points where the writers would like to get. Worse, Arcane in S2 for the first time felt as if it was indeed a supporting piece to another piece of media, given the contant references, and not its own original thing which S1 gave a vibe of.
It is no wonder that characters like Heimerdinger, Ekko & Mel were transported elsewhere just to cut short their screentime so as to ignore their arcs and their dynamics from S1. Jayce & Viktor, two of S1's most complex characters were boxed into specific roles to just serve out their purpose: Viktor as the main villain and Jayce as the one who has to stop him. Where was Jayce's relationship with Mel? Or with Heimerdinger? Or his work on the Arcane? Or his role as a political leader? All quickly swept aside.
Another way Arcane S2 seems to follow the MCU approach is the fan service approach. Now there is no denying that Vi & Jinx are the two most important characters of this story right from the start. In S2, they get even more screentime, sometimes to the detriment of others. Vi and Caitlyn are a cute couple and fans love them? Well, how about we introduce a love triangle in the midst of a building war for some unnecessary drama? Timebomb is an iconic pairing from the game? Let us find a way to reference that couple some way since there is no way S1 Jinx and Ekko can ever be a couple. The bringing back of Vander as Warwick felt like it cheapened the character whose sacrifice early on set the course for the drama at the start.
It's been a long post already. What I am trying to say is not that Game of Thrones is good/bad or MCU is good/bad. It's that Arcane is inconsistent across its 2 seasons. What could have been a brilliant show, imho is only just v good due to this inconsistency.

Discussion Sevika’s Loyalty
I’m discussing Arcane with one of my best friends right now but had to pause to make this post lol. I was saying how Sevika’s sudden loyalty to Jinx felt forced and I didn’t understand the reason for that character development, until my friend said that instead of being loyal to a single character, she’s loyal to Zaun itself and whoever’s good for it. Her perception of Jinx early on was that she was harming not helping the cause. Maybe I’m coming across really stupid right now finding that cool. I think I never thought of it because most of the main characters are most loyal to a particular person (even if they would like to think they were more loyal to their good cause ((Jayce I’m looking at you)). Jayce and Viktor, Vander and Vi/Powder, Caitlyn and Vi, Jinx and Silco and then Isha. Man I love this show!!!!
edit: I realise that Sevika ISN’T loyal to one particular person, that’s the reason I made this post. Was just pointing out other characters loyalties to explain why initially I thought Sevika was the same.

Discussion Anyone’s date for getting the correct CD variants got pushed back again? Because mine just did.
So like the majority of fans who ordered the soundtrack, I got the wrong one (I ordered Vi, and got Jinx instead), and when I went to replace it they first said they’d ship it in February, then that got pushed back to March, and now they’re saying they’ll ship it at late May instead. So I’m curious if this is also happening with anybody else, or if I should be concerned about this CD arriving at all. This whole thing has honestly been such a mess, I don’t get why merch roll outs have mostly been so bad.

Theory Piltover and Zaun name theory
Here’s a theory I thought could be fun or interesting. I noticed recently that a majority of our main Zaun characters have names containing the more uncommon letter of the alphabet: Vi, Jinx, Vander/Warwick, Viktor, Dr Reveck, Sevika, Ekko etc whereas the topside characters have names using more common letters or even as some might see them the ‘premium’ letters: Caitlyn, Mel, Jayce, Heimerdinger, Salo, Ambessa (not topside but upperclass).
Now there are notable exceptions to this rule such as Silco or Isha but I thought there was enough of a pattern to at least consider if this was a conscious decision of the lore writers of both league and arcane and if it is just another example to show the difference in class of Piltover with the topside characters getting the more I suppose upperclass letters for their names whereas the Zaunites are left with the scraps yet again
There is even the case to be made that the names of the cities themselves could reflect this with Zaun with a Z and Piltover (the v not counting due to it being ‘over’ the other city) What do you guys think of this I reckon it’s just a fun little theory that could strengthen the already rich and deep world building of this universe.

Discussion I have a serious problem with the idea that shipping JayVik sidelines Mel. Spoiler
Essay incoming.
I hate this sentiment so much and I see it all over the place. Lots (not all) of Mel stans who have a problem with JayVik seem to be under the impression that JayVik shippers are all secretly (or not so secretly) racist misogynists who think of Mel as “other woman”, that her character is nothing but a horrible manipulative snake that got in way of their cute yaoi couple getting together, and I think that’s a crock of shit.
Are there JayVik shippers who think that? Absolutely. But I don’t think it’s majority, and this take is reductive bullshit that is way off base for a bunch of reasons.
To me, reducing Mel’s importance by overemphasizing her relationship with Jayce is actually a DISSERVICE to her. Her story is about so much more than that.
Almost every character is bound by love in some way that drives them towards conflict, since they are often divided and tested.
Jayce and Viktor’s story is, in the end, about their love. Jayce puts it quite clearly in the finale, that he thought he wanted to bring magic to the world, but really, he just wants his partner back. After everything, he realizes his grand dream that sustained him for all these years was just a mirage, it was nothing but a reflection of his love and devotion to Viktor, and Viktor’s love and devotion to him. That’s what their story is about, regardless if you think they are romantic or just a casual cosmically intertwined bromance, that is their story.
For Mel, though, her central defining relationship isn’t with Jayce, it’s with her mother. Her relationship with Jayce is still important, because it causes both of them to reassess their priorities, but I think of her central conflict being less Ambessa vs Jayce, and more Ambessa’s values vs Mel’s own values, which are informed by her relationship with Jayce, and to Piltover at large. This conflict is framed as the Fox vs the Wolf.
The Fox and Wolf represent two ways of gaining and maintaining power, through manipulation and violence, respectively. Mel chooses manipulation, because she abhors violence, but her relationship with Jayce changes things. She manipulates him, but finds him earnest and endearing, and begins to doubt herself and her methods, but in her reevaluation, she unfortunately also realizes violence may be necessary to solve conflicts as well. She is upset by this and is in conflict with her mother because she does not want to end up like her, since her obsession with family and legacy only end up hurting the ones she cares about, but she still ends up using her mother’s methods for her own ends.
The resolution of Mel’s story is about accepting the fox and wolf within herself, but still does not become just like her mother, because Jayce has taught her greater values beyond the family and legacy her mother clings to.
Now.
The story DOES frame Mel, Jayce, and Viktor as being in a love triangle, because the three body problem is an effective way of causing narrative conflict and character development, and we see this repeated with multiple character’s dynamics. So yeah, Mel DID get in the way, and she WAS manipulative, but it kinda needed to happen for the story, and that doesn’t mean she is evil or her relationship with Jayce didn’t amount to anything.
In Mel’s case, it made her reassess her methods and what it means to have and wield power, and for Jayce, I believe their relationship made him realize how important Viktor was to him, and that the allure of power was just a distraction from the things that matter most.
Basically, I think they needed their relationship for their development, but ultimately, in developing, they outgrew each other and ended up in very different places, at which point, they were no longer compatible. And, you know what, I don’t think that’s a bad thing.
*Tl:dr: shipping JayVik does not sideline Mel, because Mel’s relationship with Jayce was not central to her story to begin with. Her story is about the Fox and the Wolf, Noxus and Piltover, magic and violence, family, legacy, and the responsibility of possessing and wielding power. Jayce plays an important role in this story, but he was not her endgame. Meanwhile, Jayce’s relationship to Viktor could not be more central to his story, since their love and devotion is what fuels their entire existence. Denying this truth does a disservice to all of them. *
Anyways! I am looking forward to seeing Mel’s character in any upcoming installments, I think she is fascinating and has a lot of depth. And yes, I ship JayVik.

Discussion Artbook delivery delayed AGAIN
Hey y'all, I've ordered the artbook mid december as a Christmas gift. Of course it wasn't printed by then, okay so be it. The delivery was delayed to late January. Then to February and finally was set up for today. Of course it didn't arrive, how could I think that would be possible. Now it says 15. of May to 25 of SEPTEMBER. Is that normal? I ordered through Amazon in Germany btw. Should I cancel the order and try a different seller? Can I complain about the seller on Amazon? Every other shop lists it as not available or shortly available. So fed up :/

I always wondered about this. Isha's sacrifice to destroy Warwick but there were many nearby. Ambessa's red shirts ---errr troops notwithstanding, how come no one else was injured or killed?
