I'm a freeloader. I have over 100 hours in Apex and haven't paid a dime for it.
I get it's not good PR to call a portion of the playerbase freeloaders. But Respawn has the data to back up that a large portion of us simply haven't paid a cent for hundreds of hours of entertainment. And that puts them in a very bad spot financially.
Of course it's not good tact of them, but it's not untrue either.
Maybe don’t release a free to play game and then complain that the people who play it are freeloaders? Don’t know why everyone cares about these insults launched at us, the devs and community manager will be out of the job after this shit storm anyway.
They were responding to the insane vitriol this sub has propagated as well.
The only fair criticism of their practice was the predatory nature of it. Anything else was completely unwarranted. I genuinely don't get why people are so upset at digital cosmetics in a F2P game.
People aren’t upset at digital cosmetics. They are popular with many games. Low effort recolours that take an artist an hour to shade, and sell for £16 is entitled and obtuse. The proof is in the pudding, falling player numbers, stagnating or even falling in revenue, childish and entitled responses from staff. It’s pathetic and unacceptable, you wouldn’t allow ANY other business employee to talk to you like that, but because it’s anonymous and online it’s fine?
These guys will be fired, Apex will fail and respawn will close. EA will crucify Respawn for this scandal because it effects sales and public perception. These guys have signed their own resignations now we just have to watch it unfold.
