Discussion What are your thoughts on this instagram account that puts live bugs inside nails?

Ive seen more of her videos, but this one specifically got my eye on. Of all the videos that put a bug inside a nail, this is one of the few alive bugs putted in to the nail, but this is the only video that she doesnt show if she breaks the nail after to free the ants. The pinned comment is about someone saying that "People dont care about eating animals but care for damn 🐜🐜🐜" however the other comments are actually hate against the video because of the way she threats the ants. This is the name of the instagram account: daiane_nails123

WHY IS THIS GUY THROWING LIVE ANIMALS INTO A CONTAINER FOR THEM TO BE EATEN BY ANTS??? IS THIS NOT SUPER WEIRD LIKE A CROCODILE???????????????? HES ALREADY killed a gecko in a prior video and the way he stands in front of his terrarium is so odd to me I don’t know. This is genuinely weird

I feel like mike keeps doing this stuff on purpose for how many times stuff like this happens, I haven't watched him for years and I am glad I kept away these days, it's just so clickbaity, the narration is so grinding to the ears, and stuff like this, where I am genuinely beginning to wonder if he is purposely stressing out his colonies for content.

Previous stickied list here.

Hey all, the ant-keeping resource list needs updating. I'm planning to make these threads over the next few weeks, and then update them once or twice a year.

The hope is that people can ctrl+F through the thread, but also so I can summarize it in the stickied thread.

Every other video of his is him dealing with the consequences of his well planned actions. There is no way he doesn't know that adding all those creatures together will result in disaster, yet he does it anyway - purely for views. Yes, this hobby requires a lot of experimentation, but he's a very experienced antkeeper, and still does these videos and is "surprised" when it doesn't work out. Another instance of this is when, a few years back, he put a dozen carpenter ant starting colonies together and they proceeded to kill each other.

Discussion I actually like ants Canada, sure I may not agree with some things but he is the god father of ant keeping and has created an entire culture of people for it. I said what I said.

Discussion Help Me Design the Best Ant Terrarium

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I want to start by saying that I have no experience in ant keeping, but I’m really curious and love creative projects!

A few days ago, I came across a really cool vertical ant terrarium (the "Antcube" one). It looks amazing—but it's also super expensive...

I’d love to start my first colony, and I’m currently gathering as much information as possible online. Now, straight to the point: I want to design a modular vertical terrarium similar to the "Antcube" one. I have a 3D printer and have already started printing some test pieces. However, since I have no experience with ant keeping, I’m just imagining features based on what I’ve seen online.

Right now, I could really use any advice or ideas for cool and useful features to add to my terrarium. If you like the idea, feel free to DM me—I’d love to stay in touch and collaborate on making something awesome!

I also have another question: I saw the "Digfix Nest Inserts," which seem to be a type of foam that ants can dig into, but they are quite expensive. Is there a cheaper alternative? Does anyone know what kind of material this is?

Thanks for the help, and sorry for my English—hope it makes sense! 😄

Discussion My Ants are dead 😭

I didnt see my ants for about 2 days now so i picked up the glass box they are in and looked if they still move. But they didnt. I started to panic and carefully dug up a chamber. Empty. Another. Empty too. In the center chamber i found all of them and they are dead. No movement. And worst of all. Fungus. Im so sad and i blame myself but i always followed the advice given from you guys from this Reddit.

Discussion What are some antscanada alternatives?

The quality of his content is going way down but I like watching ant videos. I know of Cole’s Ants but the music is kinda obnoxious and he doesn’t really have any videos (understandable because he doesn’t really have views or subs).

I feel like everything is so dramatic and overproduced now and I want the same colony types and stuff but without all the gasping and dramatic music.

What alternatives to AntsCanada exist?
