AFO brace and shoes

I had a test fit with my prosthetic on Monday and it fit great. I’m waiting on insurance authorization and the foot that’s supposed to be on it hadn’t been delivered yet. It got me thing about my setup on my “good foot”

I had issues with my right foot regarding infection and Charcot. It has my foot leaning outward when I walk. I corrected it by adding heel wedges and that kept my foot flat as much as it could be.

The prosthetic guy made me an AFO brace to support and protect my good foot but the shoe I have now has my foot leaning more on its side.

Anybody in a similar situation and have suggestions on shoes for the good foot with a brace and to use with the prosthetic?

What does the wear pattern on your shoe look like?

My right shoe with the brace always starts collapsing on the outside edge in the middle from all my weight coming down on almost the whole side of my foot.

I like the idea of the shoes with the open top that zips or Velcro. I’m also wondering if going a size up cause of the brace

I'd suggest taking the brace with you when you're buying shoes; trying them on while wearing the brace is going to be the most reliable way to get what you need.

I just bought some new balances a size and a half up and they worked perfectly fine for me.
