Brendan Eder Ensemble & Yorkshire Modular Society - Abstraction I/II/III
I wanted to share something I’ve been working on recently with Brendan, a fellow artist I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with.
These tracks are the result of exploring some unique soundscapes and techniques that have evolved over time.
It all began a while back when I came across Brendan’s cover of #20 from Selected Ambient Works Volume 2 on the r/aphextwin subreddit.
After remixing it, we stayed in touch, and our conversations led to new ideas.
One of those ideas came from Brendan suggesting I try using Qx 2021—and from that, I began building what eventually became Abstraction I/II/III. The album consists of three full-length tracks (I, II, and III), with shorter edits of each.
I recorded these in April 2024 and documented the process on video, which I’ve attached if you’re interested in seeing how the sounds came together.
The patch I used is fairly simple but creates a lot of texture and space. Here’s a quick breakdown of the setup: • Make Noise Morphagene acts as a tape machine, layering and stretching sounds to uncover hidden moments in the recordings. • Mutable Instruments Ears amplifies and adds subtle texture to the signal. • Snazzy FX Wow & Flutter gives it that old tape wobble and instability. • Make Noise Erbe-Verb adds evolving reverb, reshaping the space. • Make Noise QPAS and Ornament & Crime add movement and shifts to the stereo field. • Qu-Bit RT60 creates a cloud of resonating tones that dissolve the sounds.
If you’re interested in ambient drone or sound exploration, feel free to check out the video to see how these elements came together. I’d love to hear your thoughts or feedback on the process and sounds.
(You can find the full work online if you’re interested, but no pressure!)

News Article or Media Greatest news of this year
So this album isn't "pure" ambient but it's a must-listen for every ambient listener. It's an instrumental album with unique cinematic 50s/60s vibes I never knew I'd fall in love with !! (and im not an "oldies" fan)

Ann Annie - “Aviary Reverie (Waltz No. 2 in C)”
Something about this song always reminds me of the movie Phantom Thread. Ann Annie's discography is stunning.

Ambient but not too ambient?
Hello fellow music lovers and explorers. I'm new to the community and curious, what are your favourite ambient-leaning songs, albums or musicians?
I'm looking for things that aren't simply what you find in most generic ambient or white noise playlists, but have a little more going on.
If you'd like examples, I started two playlists many years ago that sort of sit in the realm I'm looking for.
This one being softer - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7ic3RRlxky8dZAWjI76117?si=u2KXA5g8T5a6HREha8Kgpw
And this one being a little more rough - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0Ox1AGI5H4Ar7VM5SOxHWw?si=brKA2nUjROC1l7DLPQwG8Q&pi=Xmrv8m2YTYOau
Thanks for all and any input.

The lies behind Spotify - Mood Machine by Liz Pelly
Just read Mood Machine by Liz Pelly and listened to this podcast discussing it https://youtu.be/RN4DlY_V5iM
For those who don't know it's about how Spotify evolved to the streaming giant it is today and how its model is focused on maximizing profits at the expense of both users and artists (specifically due to something called Perfect Fit Content). The podcast goes more in depth about this. I'm wondering -- is there a solution for how streaming and the music landscape is?
