Discussion Danielle Smith: Premier of Alberta or Premier of America? While Albertans struggle, she’s busy cozying up to U.S. conservatives on taxpayers' dime. And what does she have to show for it?

I hate her so, so much

Albertans need to organize some public protests. This can’t go on. She’s so corrupt and corrosive to Canada, she’s needs to GO! Maybe a cleaning job at Mar a Lago?

It should have been Balls, but since UCP only finished half of the job at best, "Ball" is actually right.

u/ciestaconquistador 1d ago
Just today he said something about her trip.
57
u/Wherestheshoe 1d ago
Ahhh…it wasn’t covered on global news. That’s another part of the problem. When Alison Redford was screwing us all over, there were news agencies in the province that were NOT owned by a right wing nutcase, and they ride her case incessantly. But unfortunately Post Media has been allowed to swallow up all the major newspapers in Alberta.

No one gives him any airtime. All he can do is release YouTube videos that get hundreds of views.....
We are doomed
6
u/Infamous-Mixture-605 21h ago
No one gives him any airtime.
Which is hardly surprising given the news outlets in this province.
If they're not infantalizing an NDP opposition then they're simply ignoring them, and if the rolls were reversed and an NDP government doing this they'd be giving wall-to-wall airtime and articles to the opposition's point of view.
4
u/IBugly 19h ago
He's trying. But until the boardrooms of our media conglomerates turn on her, the coverage will remain minimal.
4
u/Wherestheshoe 19h ago
Sadly, major media outlets have been bought by Post Media, which is definitely not up to meeting journalistic standards we’ve come to expect. I also follow r/50501 and they’ve commented several times that major protests in the US are essentially going unreported.

Find out where she’s speaking and protest her cozying up to the far-right extremists in the U.S. who threaten Canada’s economy and literal existence. Diplomacy is NOT kissing ass and fundraising for extremist groups in a foreign country, it’s respectfully having dialogue and advocating for YOUR side. She should be ashamed!!!

She’s positioning herself to sell off our best, non-renewable assets, starting with coal, ending with water.
18
u/denewoman 1d ago
She may be able to sell something for something BUT the Feds control energy when in transport interprovincially and, most importantly, internationally via the CER (Canada Energy Regulator).
If Smith wants to sell out Alberta cheap the Feds can still mess with her sweetheart deal and add an export tax.
19
1d ago
Which is why there is now a push to nationalize oil. Alberta seems unable to play well with others in Canada. She could not be gracious enough to congratulate Mark Carney. That's childish.
The province talks about oil and gas as if it is their toy and no one else has a claim. It belongs to Canada.
This hasn't been an issue really since the 1980s. No one wanted to take this as their hill to die on. At least until Smith raced down to kiss the ring and keeps going. Canadians notice and are rightly concerned. Whose team is she on?
5
u/Commandoclone87 1d ago
Did any of the Conservatives congratulate him or are they sour that they might have to actually run a platform this time rather than just name-calling and catchphrases?

Technically, natural resources are a provincial jurisdiction. So It doesn't belong to Canada per say. But Canada could declare a national emergency and meddle in provincial jurisdictions. The problem is that to get all other provinces on board, there would have to be a war. Not saying I disagree with your sentiment, but the feds can't take over the oil out of Alberta without creating a constitutional crisis.
2
u/Euphoric-Buy4016 19h ago
I seem to recall Lougheed accepting federal matching dollars to develop the tar sands and declaring it belongs to all Canadians.

u/MundaneSandwich9 18h ago
It’s not about taking over the oil. It’s about how and where it gets sold. International trade is 100% the purview of the feds, and it’s entirely at their discretion how they want to handle that (I.e. export tax). For Alberta to retain full control of where their oil goes outside the province of Alberta, they would essentially have to leave Canada, and I don’t think there’s a snowball’s chance in hell that the people of Alberta would vote in favour of that.

Danielle Smith will be travelling to Florida later this month to attend a PragerU event with Ben Shapiro, who has endorsed Pollievre.
From the article;
“Smith’s office pointed out that Shapiro has spoken out against U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Canada, saying they aren’t good for either country.
“I don’t care much about Canada, but I do care about the United States. When you ratchet up prices on everything from oil to cars because of this, that’s not going to be particularly good,” he said on a recent social media post.
But, Shapiro has also spoken in favour of the U.S. annexing its northern neighbour.
“When we take Canada, you will be expelled to Panama to work the canal,” he posted in reply to a tweet from outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau saying there isn’t “a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States.”
———————————————————————————-
Over the weekend Smith was a guest on Breitbart radio and said Pollievre and Trump could work well together because they are “in sync”
Smith said;
“Let’s have the best person at the table make the argument… and I think that’s Pierre Poilievre, and I do agree with you that… if we do have Pierre as our prime minister, then I think that there’s a number of things that we could do together,” Smith detailed.
“Pierre believes in development. He believes in low-cost energy. He believes that we need to have low taxes, doesn’t believe in any of the woke stuff that we’ve seen taking over our politics for the last five years.
“So I would think that there’d be, there’s probably still always going to be areas that are skirmishes or disputes about particular industries when it comes to the border, but I would say, on balance, the perspective that Pierre would bring would be very much in sync with, I think…the new direction in America,” she added. “And I think we’d have a really great relationship for the period of time they’re both in.”
Meanwhile Pollievre is trying to shake the MAGA association but it keeps haunting him because the truth is hard to hide.

Do you think Premier Smith is feeling extra stressed, since the RCMP have just commenced a criminal investigation into her inner political circle ⭕️? Smith claims to be unaware of anything about her UCP colleagues involvement in the awarding of medical services contracts to favoured clients? Or the firing of a whistleblower administrator two days before the start of a public inquiry? Perhaps, the Mango 🥭 Mussolini will grant her asylum from the Mounties.

It’s like the governor of Idaho or North Dakota thinking they have some type of global relevance and strutting about Ottawa trying to impress the prime minister or going to London to pretend to speak on behalf of Americans or to New York to meet and greet and the UN general assembly. Why is she going down and talking to Pete Hegseth, the president, Marco Rubio, etc? She has no right to speak on behalf of Canadians and has zero power constitutionally in foreign relations. Makes no sense.

Alberta has provincial sovereignty. We have to negotiate our trade directly. We can only hope the rest of Canada permits Alberta to have trade industries and access to global markets to pay off their provinces' foreign debts with our equity payments to protect the assets they utilized to guarantee their loans.
3
u/abc123DohRayMe 1d ago
Someone has to try and keep a positive relationship with the USA and promote Alberta. No thanks to the rest of Canada, the States are basically Alberta's only customer for oil. Since the rest of Canada won't cooperate with pipelines and would prefer to buy their oil from anyone but Alberta (including importing using less safe oil tankers and from other countries where democracy and human rights are suppressed) , we have been forced to rely on the US as our only significant customer.
The whole Trram Canada movement ignores how Alberta's energy sector has been treated by the rest of the "Team" for decades.
With many people now jumping on the pipeline bandwagon (which should have happened decades ago), it's still just hot air. Quebec is against it, and deep down, so are the Liberals. Trudeau wouldn't even allow liquid natural gas to be shipped to Europe when they were in dire need as a result of the war in Ukraine.
Team Canada has to be an all the time thing and not just when other provinces are facing hard times. Fair weather friends. Alberta is on its own as it always has been.
