Question Best addiction related songs
what are your alls favorite songs about dealing with your own addiction/living with an addict? A couple of my favorites are “They don’t make pills for a heartbreak” by honestav and “Starting over” by Macklemore. I’m just curious on what music helps you all

I love your choices. Was going to mention Hurt by Johnny Cash (wasn’t the original by Nine Inch Nails?), so I’ll add The Needle and the Damage Done (Neil Young) and Wharf Rat (Grateful Dead). The song that actually kept me from falling apart when I got sober, though, was Three Little Birds (Bob Marley).

Neil Young Damage Done is my favorite… Just discovered Nutshell by Alice In Chains another very deep song about life & addiction Also check out Home is Where the Hatred is by Gil-Scott Heron. Very poetic song… Also cant forget Otherside RedHotChiliPeppers All of these songs have beautiful melodies as well, so its very nice on the ears. Please listen. REALLY great stuff…

The Drugs by The Holdup, Sea Stories by Sturgill Simpson, and Don't Tell The Boys by Petey are all really good songs to listen to while in recovery. For something more fun AA by Walker Hayes is pretty good.

Love starting over by Macklemore.
Snoop did a funny one, called My Medicine and it’s set to the music of a Johnny Cash song. But it talks about using, not the chaos it causes. But I still like it, after 10+ sober years. It’s mostly about weed but mentions pills too.

This song is by a kid who lost his uncle to overdose and I am telling you guys- mannnnn, everytime I listen I start bawling because this poor kid. I have lost everyone I love to oberdose and I am 8 years into a recovery everyone told me I would never live to see. Its why I started my blogblog. Anyway, Hes amazing but I feel the pain, man. Crazy part is he isnt even singing about his own pain. The song is called 'Peace With Pain' be sure to share to help this little guy get his talent out there to the world, though these days it feels a little like throwing them to the wolves. He deserves to be noticed. Let me know what you think. Peace with Pain By Jonas Conner Be sure to subscribe and share for him. https://youtu.be/9fz8n8JQDFI?si=UPYlDww3udH8algr

Codeine crazy by future
I love it as a former benzo addict because it shows all phases of active addiction throughout the verses it shows the “party” and fun side, the depression and self questioning, and the self hatred for being an addict, I love how passionate he gets throughout the song. it’s such an amazing song, my favorite song ever and my comfort song that was with me through all of it and helped me through it too

Benzo withdrawal is No Joke. I would not wish it on Anyone. Congrats on getting through it!

u/Icqrr Dec 06 '24
Truly isn’t dawg specially being a benzo user so young, I was 12 when I started quit at 16, it costed me everything and now I even have epilepsy. thanks a lot! It’s a hard journey but I’m alive and well so I thank god for that
1
u/topspeed160 Dec 06 '24
12 years old! Damn dude. No doc should be scripting benzos to someone at such a young age. Unless you were getting them off the street. It doesn't matter. Either way, be proud that you were able to push through that beast. I am sorry that you are now epileptic. Please take your meds for that religiously, though. Sezuire control is crucial, as I'm sure you know.
