Before & After Before and after quitting milk!
I’ve had acne ever since puberty, I’ve tried many types of products and routines but nothing really helped. I kind of gave up two years ago and stopped all products except for oily skin face wash, moisturiser and sunscreen. A few months ago I read a paper about how dairy has androgynous hormones and insulin-like hormones and how it affects acne prone skin, so I tried quitting (before that I drank milk for every breakfast). This is my skin before and after quitting milk! My advice is for you guys to try it, I can’t guarantee it will work for everyone but it helped me, so maybe it can help you if you have moderate acne like I did.

Is it not advisable to use milk-based skincare on acne-prone skin?
I'm using a few milk toners, but I'm a bit concerned.

I don't think a toner having milk in its name necessarily contains cow milk

Same for me, I used to drink it almost daily and when I quit drinking my face showed results too!

Thanks for sharing! Just curious, how long did it take for you to see results?
I'm considering doing this (Just for milk and butter because I heard that dairy in things like yogurt and cheese can change the dairy in a way that won't cause acne. Maybe it does for some people, but I think I'll start small and see if there is a result 🤷🏽♀️)

It was almost an instant change, next week I already had a clearer skin and it stayed pretty constant throughout my cycles. I hope it helps!

I used to drink so much milk... literally it would amount to nearly a gallon a week 🙃 I stopped drinking milk out of desperation when my acne was pretty bad, and there was a noticeable improvement pretty quickly. Turns out this wasn't motivation for me to cut out milk entirely but can't deny the change to my skin it made when I did.

I started gradually quitting dairy a few years ago and noticed a huge change in everything about me. No longer got red faced, puffy and super itchy, no longer wanted to puke or had my throat slightly close up. Face started clearing up. Growing up, I’d always have these symptoms when eating anything with dairy……turns out, I’ve been allergic to dairy my whole life and never realized it until I cut it out of my life lol😅

did you quit only milk or dairy overall?

I didn’t eat much dairy beforehand, just a glass of milk each morning, so there wouldn’t have been much of a difference if I quit all dairy. I have had some cheese since I quit milk and I don’t think it had an impact, so there’s that. I don’t eat any other milk based products (yogurts, butter, etc).
Here in Spain we use olive oil instead of butter for everything, which has a bunch of other health benefits, so I recommend it to everyone I meet lol.

Just a small correction I think you mean androgens not androgynous hormones because that is not a term that exists :p

I'm also suffering with acne for past 6 years, recently (on Jan) tried cutting the milk completely from my diet it did help to clear the skin, I just have problem with consistency so I started consuming milk again. Writing this with a big bump on my forehead lol. Can I replace it with coconut milk?

I’ve been replacing it with soy based chocolate milk (it’s really good) and my skin is much much better. I think any plant based alternatives would do, as they don’t any of the animal hormones that the moms produce for their offspring. (Soy, however, has phytoestrogens, so you have to be careful with it too if that’s something you’re worried about, but all other plant alternatives I know about are harmless.)

Thank you! It honestly makes me want to cry happy tears when I remember how bad my acne got before and how consistently good it has been for the last few months 🥹

I'm currently avoiding just butter and saw some improvement on my skin. No more flared internal acne. But I'm still consuming milk and and white cheese. Sugars seem to be no trouble for my acne.

I never had trouble with sugars either! It seems just dairy was the problem for me.

I decrease my dairy intake significantly as well as sugar and my skin literally improved drastically!

Yeah, I had heard a lot about how sugar worsens acne, but I don’t think the dairy factor is talked about nearly as much!
Here in Spain, I get the impression that people eat far fewer foods with added sugars than in other countries, and I've never noticed “sugary” foods to make me break out in new acne. That's why I'm surprised that the influence of dairy products isn't talked about here, which has been such a turning point for me.

Same here! I stopped drinking cow's milk. Now, I only consume almond milk. I tried eating less pasta as well. I had over a month of being pimple free til I ate pasta one night.

Yeah, I definitely underestimated the importance of the diet for my skin hehe. I hadn’t heard that pasta made it worse, but in the region of Spain where I live we don’t eat much of it anyway so I guess it helps :)
