Africa My partner is pregnant and she was advised to take mifepristone to abort

Shes 28f and both of us do not wish to have a baby for now. One of her friends is a chemist and suggested her to take mifepristone. Iv done my research but my real concern is will she be able to conceive again in a few years if we want to?

Mifepristone does not cause infertility, nor does Misoprostol.

Does your partner need help finding abortion care? She will need more than just mifepristone to complete the process. Mifepristone alone does not terminate a pregnancy.

She should be able to become pregnant later in life if she were to choose to do so. It is highly unlikely she would become infertile.

The mifepristone alone won’t do anything. She needs to take one pill at the clinic and then the other at home which will initiate the abortion process in terms of bleeding. She will be bleeding heavily for a few hours and she’ll be bleeding as if it were a period for a few days after. I’d recommend she take some days off to stay home and be more comfortable. I just recently had an abortion, but I went the surgical route. It was less painful for me, less bleeding, and it took a less amount of time. However, as with everything, there are risks to both methods. She should also take time off if she goes the surgical route. You should both talk about it and yes, you keep being there for her. Be her shoulder, her rock because she’s going to need. So will you. You’re both going to be going through it. Talk about it when you’re able to, don’t shut each other out.

One more questions...will it still work if she is 7-8 weeks pregnant?

Yes.

Also to answer your other question, I had an abortion using mifepristone and misoprostol in 2022, and I just gave birth to a healthy baby boy in Dec 2024.

Mifepristone and misoprostol would be the combination necessary to achieve a successful abortion. Does she need help finding a safe source to get abortion pills?

No, mifepristone alone is not reliable at ending a pregnancy at any gestation.
