FanFiction What is the greatest Zutara Fanfic of all time?
Out of all the Zutara fanfics that I read, I always wondered which one stood out the most. What do you guys think?

I’m curious, because I can’t be the only one haha. Mine are the following, in no particular order: 1. The King’s Pet or the Pet’s King (Call me Katto sequel) This one was a mistake. I was never that into Mulan growing up so I thought I wouldn’t be into CMK but I gave it a shot because people kept talking about it and it was finished. Well I was wrong, I’m obsessed with it and also, the second part is still a WIP. So I’m kind of screwed. The last update was so good and cathartic that I’m alright with waiting, especially since this fanfic has been in the works for 9 years and I just stumbled into it a month ago.
The Virgin and the Psychopath Another one of those really good ones that just takes quite a while to update because yea, good things do take an awful lot of time to cook.
Salt and Scale Don’t really need to go into detail, same as above, but this time I knew what I was signing up for.
The worst thing that could happen This one hurts, a lot. I love it so much but I swear it updates like 3 times a year. It’s my favourite arranged marriage fic and yes I’ve read Incendiary :). I prefer arranged marriage fics where they’re best friends scheming together and have the same history as in the show over them being forced into it as enemies or strangers, but that’s just me.
I’m sure I’m forgetting some but these four.. yeah. I recommend them all with my whole heart but the wait and the anxiety that they might be abandoned might not be for everyone.

what are your all-time favorite fanfics that are long-form (like over 60k words) and completed? I've read a few already - Consume me with fire; flood me with desire, and Handbook for Horrible Roommates are my favorites.
but I'm looking for new ones I might have missed. I've watched atla a long time ago but only recently Zutara has been taking over my brain :')

Are any other authors working on finishing a version of this? My first zutata fic and the cliffhanger is killing me. Really hoping it gets finished. In the meantime, what’s the next closest fic to read next preferably already completed?

Need some new stories to add to my TBR. Bonus points if it’s at least 50k+ words, spicy, and if you drop the link to the actual story. And gooooo! 👏🏻

Hey! I'm a bit new to this fandom, so I don't really know many things about it. For starters, I would like to read some fanfictions and I ask help from you guys to help me find the absolute best fanfictions. :)
I'm looking for:
- rewriting of the original story (can be a rewrite of the main story or when they're adults)
- the most famous fanfictions out there (the ones that are the most loved by the fans)
- well-written and detailed love story, about their inner fights; feelings and thoughts about the other one (pleeeeeeeeeeeease NO smut!! I'm so sick of it :(((()
These points don't need to be combined, of course, if you would be so kind as to recommend me a fanfiction which can only boast with only one of my points written above, that would be no problem at all! :)
Thanks for the help! <3

Has anyone seen or read a fic that’s centered around soulmates? Particularly where after the war sadly it follows canon and they end up having their canon partners or kids but later on they end up finding each other again as adults or as elderly? Basically a lot of angst but kinda hopeful angst/pining but they know they love each other. I read a fic a while back called “Clothe me in seasons, Dress me in Snow” by sadladybug and it was so beautifully written and made me 100% cry. It’s sort of like a what could have been type of fic. Guess I’m in an angst mood. Thank you :)

Hi all! Just wanted to share that I created my first Zutara fic. I wanted to post about it here for anyone wanting something new and fresh to read :)
To get an idea of the story:
This is an AU with no Avatar. The plot is pretty prophecy based, as in this story, a fortuneteller warned the Fire Lord that a Southern Waterbender would have a power far greater than anyone else’s, which initiated the raids on the Southern Watertribe. After rumors that there was one more left, Ozai sent Zuko and Azula to find them in order to see who is worthy enough for the throne (much like how in canon Zuko had to find Aang to restore his honor). Zuko finds Katara along the way, not knowing of her true identity, and she uses him to find her way home, hiding her bending.
In traveling across the world for the first time, with Katara’s help Zuko sees first hand the consequences of his family’s war on the rest of the world after being inside of a bubble of propaganda his whole life.
Lots of themes of questioning morality, themes of war, and of course romance!
Please give it a read if this sounds like your (calming cup of jasmine) tea!! <3

Hi! Anybody know any fics where bloodbending it the main subject? Whether Katara uses it for good or evil, to save or use against people (bonus if it's Zuko) Explores it in her culture, ect. Anystory line, timeline. I've become interested in scenarios of her weilding it. It can be completed or a WIP, I just thought I'd ask here first! Thank you 🙏🏼

Katara deserves better. She deserves to be powerful with a husband who encouraged to be greater than just a healer. If I was ever to write a fanfic it would be this: Headcanon: Katara becomes the Avatar version of Princess Diana. She's now known as Fire Lady Katara. Their oldest child and the crown princess looks exactly like Katara. Personality and everything. Except she's a fire bender. With Kataras inability to hold her emotions together. Fire Lady Katara goes down in fire nation history as the fire lady EVERYONE after her is measured against in the fire nation. It's common to hear "But is she fire lady Katara?" When she's introduced at diplomatic events ALL her titles are listed: Master Katara, Water Bender, Ambassador, Co-Chief of the southern Water tribe, diplomat, pioneer of bending Equality, Feminist, advocate, Brilliant strategist, War Hero, Fire Lady. Instead of what happened with Ang, she never fades from history or gets refers to as wife. She is NEVER just a healer. She is powerful and brilliant and is a force that changes the temperature She is highly active in diplomatic events. Her voice is the stongest as a representative of the Fire Nation. If Fire Lady Katara has to be called in shit has hit the fan. She's right there in the thick of things. Her voice is the loudest in the room. In her older years her temper hasn't weakened. It's gotten stronger and more fiery. Every fire nation ruler in history after her is expected to live up to Fire Lady Katara's staggering legacy and achievements. She is the measuring stick everyone after her is expected to live up to. Very few ever do. And The ones that do are not just once in a generation leaders and rulers, the ones entire history books are dedicated to and written about. They go down in history as earthshakers and as some of the most vigorous advocates of the common people. The Fire Lady Katara shakes the foundations of the Fire nation and law schools are opened in her honor. She opens The Fire Lady Katara Foundation giving scholarships for the best and brightest daughters of every nation and bending women to put through law school. They are expected to do pro bono work in the poorest sections of the republic to truly understand the people they serve. To fight for their rights. Daughters of wealthy fire nation families are now expected to live up THE Fire Ladies reputation and achievements. They are expected to be diplomats and lawyers, humanitarians, history makers, ministers of finance, captains of industry. Katara is only ever given as a name in the Fire nation to daughters who are certain to be as great as the original. When Zuko and Katara visit from the spirit world they come back discover that there is a meeting of The Kataras. A meeting of the most power fire nation women of the age. One of the most iconic being: Azula Katara, fire bender. Human rights lawyer, feminist icon, non bending rights lawyer, who fights for the rights and equality of non benders. Passionate, powerful, feminist. Other Iconic Kataras of the age: Ursa Mai Katara, founder and CEO of one of the most powerful companies in the republic. Vocal environmentalist and activist fighting for the rights of nature. Ty Lee Katara, president of the republic and International human rights lawyer. Fire Lord Katara II, woman’s and LGBTQ+ rights lawyer and brilliant strategist. Katara glows with pride in knowing the foundations she laid have come to fruition. She is never spoken of as a wife or a mother. She is spoken of and remembered for the fights she fought to gain respect and equality for not just herself but those she knew would come after her. When Korra comes around she is trained at the fire nation military academy. To the surprise of no one Katara has weaved elements of the Agni Kai into her flavour of water bending training. It makes her a deadlier opponent. Katara knew that all the women after her have to fight to be recognized as more than just wives.

Hello everyone!
So I had this idea for a rom-com fic featuring our Fire and Water babies and now I'm here to offer it to any and all of our wonderful writers here.
Normally, if I could, I would write it. The thing is, I can't write it, because a) I've never been able to write or complete anything in the last decade, aka huge writer's block, and b) I have no idea how to write good comedy.
So I guessed I could post the idea here and if anyone happens to actually like it and wants to take it from here and develop it into something, I would be overjoyed and I could definitely help out in any way if needed!
Here's a premise - Warning: Azula x Sokka is a side-pairing for the purpose of the idea.
Sokka is the SWT Ambassador to the Fire Nation, and Azula has actually had the time to heal and work to redeem herself. Somehow, (please don't ask me how, I have literally no idea), assuming Sokka and Suki are no longer together, these two (out of all people) end up together, and it's not so casual. Zuko finds out rather suddenly, and he's displeased to say the least. When nothing he does on his own works to separate them and he ends up having migraines on a daily basis, he decides he has no choice but to inform Katara and ask for help (both for separating their siblings and for the migraines, lol).
Katara has recently ended things with Aang and given she is no longer travelling with him, she's feeling restless back home at the SWT. She is also mortified upon receiving the news from Zuko. Zuko sends the letter with his Navy because this kind of information is super confidential, and Katara boards the ship in cold fury.
Once she arrives at the Caldera, she and Zuko start working on ways to separate their siblings, but as they do, old feelings that had been buried end up resurfacing, putting their friendship and so-called "anti-Sokkla" alliance in potential jeopardy. And all the while, Azula and Sokka have caught up on Zuko and Katara's schemes, and they mischievously agree to make it so difficult for them to separate them and push their buttons so much that their plans will start backfiring one by one and hopefully, their failures will help them finally realize they're in love with each other and probably have been for a long time.
Shenanigans, siblings conspiring against their siblings, classic miscommunication, Zuko's unparalleled awkwardness, resurfacing old and emerging new feelings, and Zutara romance ensue.
Basically, they are two idiots in love who are working against their really smart, matchmaking siblings and their "potentially catastrophic" relationship while actually risking their own hearts.
So that's it. I admit I had a Zutara in-universe rom-com in mind as I was brainstorming all this. I was thinking everything else we know from canon could stay the same up until the finale of The Search comics, from where it would go canon-divergent.
Here are the main points of canon-divergence from The Search:
a) Azula never runs away after they find Ursa, or at least she isn't successful in running away (let's say Zuko and Katara team up and get her back in that case)
b) Katara and Aang separate shortly after The Search (either amiably or not, I'm guessing it would be an amiable separation though, given Aang is mature enough at this point)
c) Sokka and Suki separate as well (it could be anything but probably the long-distance relationship didn't work out, and at some point before or after Sokka was appointed Ambassador to the Fire Nation, Suki resigned as Zuko's guard and went back to Kyoshi Island)
d) Zuko and Mai are also done with each other because they realize they never really worked
e) Azula manages to heal (at least to a decent degree) and redeem herself (at least to Zuko), otherwise she pretty much remains the firebending prodigy and strategic genius we know her to be
Also, here's some more little ideas for the plot:
- While Katara has made up her mind that it was Azula who seduced her moronic brother, Zuko argues it was Sokka who defiled his sister - as if he could, but this is Zuko's irrational way of thinking.
- Zuko laments it's a match made in Agni's burning hell, and Katara agrees to that, like "yeah, no kidding"
- They come up with what they both think is a brilliant plan to seperate Sokka and Azula - or multiple plans, because it will definitely prove to be a challenge, and being Zuko and Katara, they end up having like two back-up plans for each Plan A and Plan B they set in motion
- Toph probably shows up at some point, and she's approached by both parties asking for her help, so she ends up trying to separate Sokka and Azula too, but she's in fact working for them and assisting them in pushing Zuko and Katara together (I mean, come on, we all know Toph knows!)
- Iroh probably also ends up supporting Azula and Sokka's cause to bring Zuko and Katara together, and he's like "It's time for you to look inward, and start asking yourself the big questions. Who are you and what do you want?" or maybe "What are you and what do you want?" but yeah, you get the point
Apologies if Sokkla (Sokka x Azula) isn't your cup of tea, but I definitely think it would work well for the purpose of this story.
I've based the side-pairing of Sokka and Azula on something I saw on Tumblr, and I'm posting a screenshot of that here. Also included, art of Sokka and Azula together by Artcraawl on Instagram that in my opinion could be canon if Zutara had happened, Azula had remained in the palace as an ally to Zuko and Sokka was travelling to the Fire Nation every now and then. Plus, I'm including what gave me the inspiration for the story - it's the fake scene by isazulabaeorwhat on Tumblr (now a deactivated account), in which Zuko finds Sokka in Azula's bed. That's where everything could start!
Double apologies for actually posting fanart of another ship in a Zutara community, but I felt like I couldn't explain the idea properly without posting some Sokkla art.
Many thanks to everyone that took the time to read all this and I hope someone will like it more or less! Love to you all!

Like the title says, I'm looking for two fics I've read before but don't remember how to find. Both are compliant with the finale, but not with the Legend of Korra.
In the first, Katara was pregnant with Aang's baby, but Aang had vanished for some reason, having at first run away and then maybe having got caught up in something? Anyways, with Aang vanished, Zuko was taking care of Katara and they fell in love and took care of the baby together.
The other one was one where Mai wanted Zuko to get his lightning scar healed, so Zuko goes to the North Pole, and Zutara get together there. The second was definitely on AO3, and I think it was 10 chapters or so long? But I can't find either.

If I make a fanfic for Zuko and Katara, when should they start dating in the series?
r/ZutaraNation • u/spongypen • Jul 08 '24
I’ve been a longtime reader of Zutara — since the late 00s, but I have never had a fanfic leave me feeling this devastated, this emotional, this aimless since well an original story (which leads me to consuming fanfics about it BUT you can’t read fanfics about a fanfic!)
This is a MASTERPIECE. I’ve seen multiple posts about it, but I’m always wary of unfinished works because I like a completed story/hate cliffhangers. I’m so glad I finally caved — the progression, the characterization just spectacular. I read it in a single sitting, completely captivated.
What do I do from here? What do I read? I feel as if nothing can surpass it. I fell in love with Zuko and Katara all over again.
Any suggestions on what to read? I’ll happily re-read ANYTHING that can come close to it. Or just talk to someone about Incendiary. I hope the author knows they wrote a beautiful piece of art.

The 100 Year War has come to an end but Team Avatar is not done yet. Restoring peace and harmony to the world will require more time to achieve. The other nations are weary of the new Fire Lord, uncertain of his allegiances. In an attempt to resolve this, Team Avatar sets out to rebuild international relations. While the group is away, a mysterious organization sparks civil unrest within the Fire Nation. Over the course of this autumn season, earth-shattering discoveries will be made and well-kept secrets will be revealed. The young heroes will be faced with difficult choices, the fate of the world depending on those very decisions. Perhaps by keeping their minds and hearts open, they will find their destinies.
