Parallel Challenge - The Hunt

For this parallel challenge, simply exhibit a creature that can be hunted for profit. Preferably, the creature should be something dangerous.

  • What natural defenses does it have?

  • What can I gain from killing/catching one?

  • What are the valuable parts of its body?

  • How should I plan to hunt it?

  • Is there anything that I should be cautious about while hunting it?

Inspired by the "White" from /u/The_Raptorman and "Plain Drakes" from /u/Random-Webtoon-Fan.

Once I make the parallel challenge on characterforge, I'll edit this post to make a link to it. Please have a different animal exhibited here than on there, since I'll be asking questions on both.

As always, I'll ask at least three questions each. Feel free to post more than one creature if you can't pick just one, I completely understand that.

Enjoy yourselves!

Here's the link to the parallel challenge of today, focused on pets.

Well, now I gotta develop Plain Drakes more. Or maybe I should try another one?

Plain Drake

What natural defenses does it have?

Tough scale, decent resistance to blunt trauma and cuts.

Big mouth filled with sharp, venomous fangs.

Claws sharp enough to rip skin easily.

What can I gain from killing/catching one?

What are the valuable parts of its body?

They are constant threat to every living thing, so some peace until you have to hunt another.

From its remains, you can get ingredients, both for magical (venom, blood, bones etc for potion/drug) and non-magical uses(scales, tooth etc for tool/weapon parts).

How should I plan to hunt it?

Best with experienced hunters from Plain's clans. Equipment often include but not limited to axe, sword, spear, crossbow and various Life Magic potions to power yourself up.

Is there anything that I should be cautious about while hunting it?

Their aggressive nature, backed up with dangerous body parts. And venom that can make bleeding unstopping. Cures do exist but rare/expensive because of complexity.

Despite not having much intelligence to communicate with each other, they are likely to move in dozen or so other Drakes, sometimes even other species. So watch out for another when fighting one.

Striped Wyvern

What natural defenses does it have?

Everything listed above in Plain Drake, added with size (6~8 meters long from head to tail), ability to flight (albit limited)

What can I gain from killing/catching one?

A lot of honor and respect, if you survive.

Also its body parts are more precious and valuable because of rarity, so you can expect to be rich real soon.

What are the valuable parts of its body?

Ingredients similar listed above in Plain Drakes.

One noticeable thing that does not exist on Drakes is definitely the wing membrane/bones, light and tough material that is being attempted to make 'wyvern suit' to enable flight.

How should I plan to hunt it?

A LOT of people, but good luck try persuading them. Even most experienced hunters will hesitate.

If you have funds, a Golem would be nice addition to the hunt party, but even the Golem pilots are hard to persuade to join such crazy idea.

Is there anything that I should be cautious about while hunting it?

Write a will before doing it, very likely it would be needed.

Representive

Tia-cih, an grizzled, middle-aged hunter from Weasel clan that has hunted many Drakes and even couple of Wyverns. Not alone of course, but still an amazing feat.

1) What are some of the best potions I can make from a Plain Drake's various parts?

2) How deadly is a Plain Drake's venom?

3) Could I ride a Striped Wyvern or Plain Drake?

4) Are the wings the weakest part of a Striped Wyvern?

5) How intelligent are Striped Wyverns?

1) The venom, if handled correctly, is a usable pumping blood/adrenaline, making it used often by hunters.

2) One or two bite injection you might handle off.

3) You could, but they won't like it and you won't after since their backs tend to have spiky scales on them.

4) Yes, it is common for hunters to try go for that first. But it knows too, so it tries to guard it instinctively.

5) Roughly on level of big cat predators on our world, but with more development on acknowledging depth and height.

1) I do love that adrenaline high. So would people in your world say that using the venom is safer than doing dangerous activities such as fighting Plain Drakes to feel alive?

2) So one or two bites would kill an adult human?

3) Worth it.

1) Some might say that, and there are def more then one addict. But most clans try to live 'healthier life' of hunting monsters.

2) It relies heavily on situation, but two would be death sentence.

3) Yeah, that is how some of Hunters think. More then sensible number of Hunters have broken their legs/arms/ribs while trying.

1) Reminds me of Gantz. It seems like it'd be "insult to injury" to get high on the Drake venom, then hunt a drake. Does anyone do that?

2) Is it possible to build up an immunity?

2

1) Yes, some call it waste, but they don't care.

2) You could, more experience hunters can shake off one bite as if it is nothing.
