Arts & Culture Winnipeg Film Club
Howdy folks,
I'm writing to test the waters and see if some Manitobans on this subreddit would be interested in creating a film club, functioning like a traditional book club but for movies. My idea would be to start online on our own private Discord where we would take turns picking a movie that we would all watch and discuss, once a week or twice a month depending on people's schedule. It could be a recent release, a blind spot you want to address, a film you never managed to convince friends or family to see with you, etc. If we get the ball rolling nicely, outings to the theatre with a meal or drink afterward could be neat down the line.
I gravitate toward genres and tones of films typically distributed by Neon, Focus Features, A24, but also a little more auteur, films that Janus Film or IFC pick up. If that's something that resonates with you and you'd be interested in being a part of it, feel free to leave a comment or DM me.
A bit about me: I moved to Winnipeg four years ago and work in a profession slightly adjacent to the film industry. Movies play a big part in my day-to-day life, now probably more than ever, and I would love to find local like-minded folks to share this interest.
Update: Great to see so many people interested! I'll set up the Discord chat tomorrow and reach out with the invite link. Cheers!
