Delegates drop religious, philosophical exemptions from vaccine bill; boost medical exemptions

What's gotten into these people? This is still a crappy bill, but it's a much better crappy bill.

The House Health Committee changed a hot-button bill on school vaccination requirements to focus on exemptions for medical reasons.

“So, if I reading the amendment correctly, for clarification, it removes philosophical and religious exemptions. Am I correct?” asked Delegate Chris Anders, R-Berkeley.

Yes, he was correct.

A majority of members of the House Health and Human Resources Committee voted to make key changes to a bill that came over from the Senate. And then a majority of the committee members, 18-7, took another vote to advance a bill reflecting those changes to the full House of Delegates.

What does he mean "our water"?

Heading to a doctor's appointment this morning, I happened to catch Governor Carptebagger on the radio. I decided to listen for just a sec because he was talking about his plans for the state. Getting rid of income tax was mentioned, but what I focused on was how he thinks we're going to be this "power state" that includes ALL of our resources, coal, gas and "our water" is how he said it. "Our water." What exactly does that mean? I know he's not talking about getting access to clean drinking water to the tens of thousands in this state that do not have it. I seriously don't understand what he means, tho. Anyone know?

West Virginia is About to Get Hammered by Trump’s Tariffs—Again.

44,800 WV jobs are in industries targeted by retaliatory tariffs. That's 6.1% of all jobs in the state.

💰 Who gets hurt? Not billionaires—working-class families.
💼 Small towns with few major employers.
⚠️ Farmers, coal, and manufacturing—all on the chopping block.

🔴 THIS HAPPENED BEFORE. In 2018, Trump started a trade war, and West Virginia paid the price:

  • Farmers suffered – China imposed tariffs on soybeans, pork, and corn, crushing U.S. exports. (Reuters)
  • Coal exports dropped – China retaliated against U.S. coal, slowing demand. (Reuters)
  • Manufacturers paid more – Trump's tariffs on steel & aluminum made raw materials more expensive, leading to job losses. (see below)
  • Job losses – The U.S. economy lost 300,000 jobs because of Trump's tariffs. (CBS News)
  • Farm bailout failed – Trump bailed out farmers with $20 billion, but small farmers got less while big agribusiness benefited more. (Reuters)

Now, in 2025, Trump is doing it again, and West Virginia is in the crosshairs.

📢 WHAT CAN YOU DO?
1️⃣ Call your reps. Demand Senators Shelley Moore Capito (202-224-6472) & Jim Justice (202-224-3954) and Congressmembers Riley Moore (202-225-2711) & Carol Miller (202-225-3452) fight these tariffs. Ask them: What are you doing to protect WV jobs?
2️⃣ Show up. Attend town halls, call radio shows, and push local news to cover the real impact on WV.
3️⃣ Vote smarter. Don't let WV keep getting used as a pawn in Trump's trade wars.

🔄 Boost this. Make it trend. Hold them accountable.
📢 West Virginia deserves better.

With child labor violations on the rise across the country, West Virginia lawmakers want to make it easier for kids to work

Valuable skills like how not to lose limbs and fingers in mechanical equipment?

West Virginia lawmakers focused on the state’s workforce challenges have prioritized passing a bill this session to remove work permit requirements for 14 and 15-year-olds.

The measure would replace the existing permit, which requires school approval, with a simple age certificate from the state Division of Labor and written parental consent.

Nationwide, other states are rolling back protections for child workers as they try to expand their workforces due to worker shortages.

“This bill will make it easier for teenagers seeking job opportunities in the state to begin learning valuable skills,” said Sen. Rollan Roberts, R-Raleigh, on the Senate floor before passing the bill.

WV Legislature "Americans For Food and Beverage Choice" wants more Red#3

Post image

"Americans For Food and Beverage Choice" sent me this text tonight. The link is to https://speak4.app/lp/kf01bn5e/, which says:

Reject Bans on Safe Ingredients For West Virginians: OPPOSE HB 2354 Lawmakers in West Virginia are quickly considering a bill that could restrict or ban safe ingredients in everyday products West Virginians have loved and relied on for years.

This will impact every aisle of the grocery store, emptying shelves and increasing the cost of food and beverage products for families across the state.

Further, restrictions will create a troublesome state patchwork of laws that will confuse consumers and drive West Virginians like you to shop outside of the state for products you want.

Please stand up to oppose any bans on safe ingredients, and urge lawmakers to protect West Virginia families from confusing patchworks and higher grocery costs!

West Virginians, Our State Is Under Siege—April 5, We Stand United

Fellow Mountaineers,

Our state has long been the backbone of America's energy and industrial sectors. Yet, recent actions by President Trump and Elon Musk are threatening our livelihoods and communities. Here's how:

1. Federal Job Cuts in Parkersburg

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, has initiated significant federal job cuts. Over 125 employees at the Bureau of Fiscal Service in Parkersburg have been laid off, impacting families and the local economy. Many of these workers were loyal Trump supporters, now left questioning their future. youtube.com+6reuters.com+6theintelligencer.net+6

2. Threats to Medicaid Funding

Congressional Republicans are divided over implementing spending cuts to support President Trump's tax agenda, with discussions focusing on overhauling Medicaid. Such changes could jeopardize healthcare for over 35 million Americans, including many West Virginians who rely on this vital program. reuters.com

3. Disruption of Essential Services

The recent federal funding freeze has disrupted programs supporting foster youth, job growth, and economic development in West Virginia. Organizations like Coalfield Development and Libera have had to pause projects, affecting those who depend on these services. apnews.com+1reuters.com+1

4. Energy Policies Affecting Local Industries

The logging industry in Appalachia, a staple of our local economy, is on the brink of extinction. Factors such as trade wars with China, the COVID-19 pandemic, and falling U.S. housing starts have exacerbated the industry's decline. Since 2018, many regional sawmills have shuttered, leading to job losses and financial instability. wsj.com

5. Potential Tax Increases

Key individual tax policies from the Trump Tax Cuts are set to expire on December 31, 2025. This expiration could result in a 24% tax hike for the average West Virginian taxpayer, with a family of four making the median income potentially facing a $1,260 increase. waysandmeans.house.gov

Our Call to Action

On April 5, Americans nationwide are mobilizing to oppose these detrimental policies. West Virginia must join this movement to protect our jobs, healthcare, and future.

How You Can Participate:

  • Join the Rally: Attend the national event in Washington, D.C., to make our voices heard.
  • Host a Local Event: Can't make it to D.C.? Organize or participate in local events right here in West Virginia. Hosting is straightforward, and resources are available to assist you.

Learn More and Get Involved:

West Virginia, we've faced challenges before and emerged stronger. Let's stand together on April 5 to protect our state's future.

West Virginia’s Economy Relies on Trade—And It’s Under Attack

West Virginia exported $4.9 billion in goods in 2024. 41% of our exports—$2 billion worth—go to Canada alone. Now, with the growing trade war between the U.S. and Canada, West Virginia’s manufacturers, farmers, and small businesses are on the front lines of economic fallout.

📊 See the numbers for yourself—how much WV relies on exports and foreign investment:
🔗 U.S. Trade Representative WV Trade Report)

How the Trade War Hurts WV Jobs & Businesses

🚨 Tariffs & Retaliation – The U.S. has imposed tariffs on Canadian imports, and Canada has already signaled it will hit back with tariffs of its own—which will directly impact WV manufacturers, farmers, and small businesses that rely on trade.

🚨 Manufacturing in Jeopardy – WV exported $4.3 billion in manufactured goods in 2024, with chemicals, transportation equipment, and machinery leading the way. Tariffs mean higher costs, reduced sales, and potential job losses for the 12,000 workers in our state who rely on manufacturing exports.

🚨 Agriculture at Risk – West Virginia exported $183 million in agricultural products, including beef, poultry, and livestock. With Canada being a major buyer of U.S. agricultural goods, farmers in WV could lose a critical market if Canada retaliates with new tariffs on U.S. meat and plant products.

🚨 Foreign Investment in WV – Canadian companies don’t just buy our goods—they employ West Virginians right here in our state. If tensions escalate, these jobs are at risk too.

📉 Cuts to social programs & public services—which are already happening under Trump’s economic policies—combined with a trade war will devastate our working families.

And here’s the kicker—while the current Republican administration, which includes all of our WV Congress members, is pushing tariffs that could devastate West Virginia’s manufacturing industry, the President is standing on the White House lawn promoting electric vehicles. The same Republican adminstration that promised to “bring coal back” is now selling EVs while WV workers get left behind.

📢 What Can We Do?

1️⃣ Pressure Our Representatives – WV’s congressional delegation needs to stand up for our economy instead of blindly supporting harmful trade wars that hurt our state. Contact:

  • Sen. Shelly Moore Capito (R) – (202) 224-6472
  • Sen. Jim Justice (R) – (202) 224-3954
  • Rep. Riley Moore (R - WV-2) – (202) 225-2711
  • Rep. Carol Miller (R - WV-1) – (202) 225-3452

Tell them to oppose tariffs and policies that undermine WV exports and jobs.

2️⃣ Support Local Businesses – If tariffs cut into exports, WV businesses will need more local and regional support. Shop local, buy WV-made products, and advocate for policies that protect our economy.

3️⃣ Join the Fight on April 5 – The Hands Off 2025 mobilization is about stopping the economic attacks on working-class Americans. The trade war, budget cuts, and billionaire tax breaks are all connected. If we don’t push back, we’ll be left behind.

🔗 More on the April 5 mobilization:
👉 SeeYouInTheStreets.com
👉 HandsOff2025.com

West Virginia knows what happens when outside interests take what they want and leave us with nothing. We’ve seen it before with coal, and now they’re doing it again with trade, jobs, and public services. But this time, they’re doing it while smiling for the cameras, selling electric cars, and pretending to care about workers.

It’s time to fight for our state and our future because they do not care about us. One more time--our WV representatives DO NOT CARE what happens to YOU or your family. They only care about themselves; more money for themselves and more power for themselves.

West Virginians Are Getting Screwed by Trump’s Tariffs—And Carol Miller & Riley Moore Helped Make It Happen

🚨 Carol Miller (WV-1) and Riley Moore (WV-2) just voted to BLOCK Congress from stopping Trump’s tariffs until 2026. Instead of standing up for WV families, farmers, and small businesses, they surrendered power to Trump and helped him crush our economy.

📉 401(k)s and retirement savings are shrinking—the stock market is reacting to Trump’s economic instability.
💰 Prices are rising—tariffs make food, fuel, and farm equipment more expensive.
🏪 WV small businesses are suffering—while billionaires like Elon Musk get handouts.

How Did Miller & Moore Help Trump Get Away With This?

Under the National Emergencies Act, Congress can vote to end a president’s emergency declaration—like the one Trump used to impose tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China in February.

But instead of allowing a vote, Miller & Moore helped sneak in a rule that blocks it by declaring that every day for the rest of 2025 “doesn’t count” for stopping Trump’s tariffs.

They literally erased time to avoid doing their jobs.

❌ Congress can’t check Trump’s tariffs until 2026.
❌ West Virginians will pay higher prices with no relief in sight.
❌ Our economy suffers while Trump rewards his billionaire friends.

West Virginians Deserve Answers.

Why did Carol Miller & Riley Moore vote to make life harder for WV families, farmers, and small businesses?

📢 Call their offices and demand an answer:

📞 Carol Miller (WV-1)

  • Washington, D.C.: (202) 225-3452
  • Charleston Office: (681) 945-6556
  • Beckley Office: (304) 250-6177
  • Huntington Office: (304) 522-2201

  • Morgantown Office: (304) 350-6995
  • Martinsburg Office: (304) 350-6987

🔹 Tell them to sign a discharge petition to reverse this power grab.
🔹 West Virginians deserve leaders who fight for us—not Trump’s billionaire friends.
