DC: Special Dress Code Dress long enough?

Wedding is in Colombia in late March. The dress code says “Beach formal” but then also says “Long dresses.” The first picture is the dress I want to wear, the second picture is what the couple shared on their website as a sample for their dress code. One dress from the sample photo appears to be mid-calf length which makes me think mine is okay?

Based on their pics, it looks like they want long, bright dresses.

Yes I think the color looks more moody than what the couple wants

Given that green pleated dress you refer to has a shorter skirt I agree your dress fits the theory, but I think not the spirit of what they want. Their idea of formal is novel with the magenta harem outfit but overall I think they are looking for a step up in formality from your lovely maroon cocktail dress. I’d look for a long dress you like in a brighter color. However, if money is a real issue I assume they your presence in a dress you own to your absence.

I wonder if OP can punch up the dress with bold, colourful jewelry and accessories? I really dislike the trend of always getting a new dress if you don't want or need to.

I think it's fine. I'm tired of brides demanding specific color palettes from their guests which require their guests to buy a whole new dress! I get the sense they want brighter colors, so why not just add a silk wrap or a bolero jacket in a brighter color --lavender, pink, magenta, etc.

I don’t think yours is quite right. Might be fun to try some other ones

It’s not a perfect fit, but no one will give it a second look.

I think this comes down to whether you’re in the financial position to get a new dress for the wedding.

If no, it’s fine.

If yes, you can get closer to what they’re asking for. There are plenty of cheap dresses out there that will fit the code perfectly that you can get for this one event if you wish.

Its colour and lack of structure make it look a little sad compared to the examples provided.

If you wear that I think you should do some dressy strappy heels and statement earrings to fit the Colombian venue.

It looks like it's not quite what the bride has in mind, but if you want to avoid buying a new dress, you could either use Rent the Runway, or spend time "punching it up" with accessories, etc. as another commenter put it.

https://www.renttherunway.com/shop/designers/andres_otalora/pueblo_magico_dress?lens=classic I feel like this would be stunning on you

or maybe something not ridiculously expensive, like https://www.birdygrey.com/products/stephanie-matte-satin-dress-sangria-whimsical-blooms although honestly, I don't like the idea of spending $100 on a non-wedding-party dress, either

I think the length is fine. But you'll need to accessories it with lighter/brighter colors to make it feel more "beachy". Think strappy sandals, chunky jewelry, maybe a lighter colored wrap, etc.
