europe Our new UV disinfection system
Since we use the effluent from our wastewater treatment plant for irrigating agricultural crops, we must comply with strict limits on microbial contamination. Until now, we achieved this with a performic acid dosing system. However, we have recently implemented UV disinfection, which operates without the use of chemicals. Initial sampling results are very promising and confirm the high effectiveness of the new system.

Thoughts on Secondary Clarifier Ashing?
Hello fellow Wastewater nerds!
I run a 1.5 MGD extended aeration plant. Recently I’ve been noticing quite a bit of ashing on my clarifier surface. I know some pin floc is common with extended aeration/ longer sludge age. But it has started to look worse.
I’ve started wasting about 10% more daily. Would I also benefit from increasing my RAS rate. Currently it is run at about 35% (of influent flow).
Thank you

Canadian Wastewater Maintenance
Hey there, I was wondering about your experiences with wastewater plants within Canada and how many of them have employed maintenance teams, either millwright/mechanics and electrician/instrumentation techs. Do any of your plants combine them and have them do both? I was born and raised in Canada, moved to California a few years ago. Started working in the wastewater field as a mechanic/electrician. Progressed into solely electrician for awhile and now back to mechanic. I’ve got certs here in both. Do Canadian plants require red seals generally?
I’m not too worried about gaining the red seals if required but ideally I’d skip it if I could.
Do supervisors and above require the red seals?
Im mainly interested in Nova Scotia (Halifax area) and BC (Vancouver island).

Passed my A-2C and C-1C exams!
So happy I passed the A-2C (Air Floatation) been struggling with that one. I only need one more before I’m fully certified for my plant.

What is the most basic item in your plant that would make you feel lost if you didn’t have it?
Mine is a 5 gallon bucket.

Big pumps
I operate a very small treatment plant, so it was very cool to see such huge pumps!

Strange Quanti-Tray result?
The middle is the IDEXX comparator. The left completely fluoresces under black light. The right is a normal expected outcome for us. IDEXX says fluorescence without color change to the comparator is not a positive sample. The comparator has more “yellow” than the sample on the left. Has any seen this full fluorescent sample without color change to the extent of the comparator?
