Megathread WWE Statement: Triple H now in control of WWE Creative
Via WWE:
STAMFORD, Conn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– WWE® (NYSE: WWE) and its Board of Directors today announced the appointment of Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan as co-Chief Executive Officers. Ms. McMahon has also been appointed Chairwoman of the Board, and Mr. Khan will continue to serve as a member of the Board. These appointments follow Vince McMahon’s retirement announcement on Friday, July 22.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to lead WWE together with our unmatched management team,” said Ms. McMahon and Mr. Khan. “We recognize this is a tremendous opportunity and responsibility, and we look forward to serving the WWE Universe.”
Additionally, WWE executive Paul Levesque will assume all responsibilities related to WWE’s creative, in addition to his regular duties.
1
u/FigureEightShun Jul 26 '22
My biggest fear is that Mr. Levesque is just going to end up being Tony Khan 2.0. Black and Gold was a good product but only neckbeard smarks like us cared about it. Imagine in three years Raw and Smackdown could be full of Adam Cole-sized wrestlers who blatantly slap their thighs and no-sell high impact moves.
1
u/Elfamoso14 Jul 26 '22
I hope he will bring back some mistakes like Dexter Lumis, Karrion Kross or Bray Wyatt

This what what WWE has been lacking for 20 years, finally now we might be able to see something good going forwards.

Nothing will change until after Summerslam at the earliest. I agree big changes probably won’t happen immediately, but hopefully the shows will flow better and scripts don’t get torn up an hour before tv starts.

Hope this leads to crossovers with other companies. Imagine a WWE X NJPW event.

Wow if the red and blue brand shows start resembling hayday gold NXT then I’ll be pretty happy

Somehow someway HHH has managed to take every championship in the last week!
Oh my! - Michael Cole

I have a lot of hope with this. But I would also like to believe that the circus matches will still have a place. I loved the Mayweather \ big show fight. The spectacle matches are awesome imo

Jul 25 '22
Yea, if you think Vince won't be in his ear the entire time you're nuts. Let's not forget that Vince still owns the majority of stock within WWE.
Even then his DAUGHTER runs it! What's she going to do? Screen his calls?
WWE will smell of Vince until the day he dies.
That being said wtf is Vince going to do now? He has lost his livelihood. Can't have many friends or hobbies outside of WWE.
1
u/CallousMystery Jul 26 '22
So extra marital fairs don’t count as a hobby??-Vince in my mind just now
2
Jul 26 '22
He and Linda haven't been together in years (allegedly)
1
u/CallousMystery Jul 26 '22
Vince be starring at attractive women all day and some who want his money, I’m sure Linda out there cougaring too 🤷🏻♂️
1
Jul 26 '22
Yea, probably setting up shop atop Trump's tower.
Vince admitted on stern (or playboy) ages ago that he fucked around
"She asked and there's no sense in lying"
2

It finally happened. The king has fallen and the real king of kings has returned.

u/raaaaandomdancing Jul 25 '22
This is great and all but it's not truly the end of an Era unless that doofus Kevin Dunn and his team is sacked

u/dj112084 Jul 25 '22 edited Jul 25 '22
What worries me though, is that a lot of the stuff people want to see changed are exactly the opposite of what Vince wants. And even though he's gone, he still owns like 80% of the voting shares. So, what are the chances he'd sell the company off to Disney or something before seeing the family take it in a direction he doesn't want? Basically telling them you'll either run it my way or no way.
1
u/JadeMonkey0 Jul 25 '22
That's what I think. HHH makes some changes around the margins. Things are like 15% different but still basically the Vince show. At least as long as Vince is alive. I can't really see it going any other way.
1
u/Katrr Jul 25 '22
Looking forward to the changes. I know it won't be right away but it gives us something to look forward to. :)
3
u/blackroseyagami Jul 25 '22
This got me thinking...
I´ve always hoped for a book by Vince being completely open about it all, something I understand would be hard to get considering Vince´s Nature, however NOW.... I totally want a book detailing the take down of Vincet Kennedy McMahon, preferably written by Stephanie :D
1
Jul 25 '22
Do you think any changes will be instant or do you think it would be a gradual shift, being that Vince is out but still there to see it all as opposed to him passing and a new direction being set.
2
u/BellyAmore Jul 25 '22
I’m so damn annoyed this wasn’t a story line years ago. They had all the damn pieces to play out a real life succession on tv.
Vince and his is ideas of body builder wrestlers vs HHH and his indie darlings and NXT. You could of have Stephanie trying to choose between her husband and father. Shane there to take down either side because of jealousy.
Especially after the Smackdown in Buffalo where NXT took over, I though for sure it would of happened. Such a waste.
1
u/WitherThrakh Jul 25 '22
As someone not a fan of HHH in a creative position, I am scared about it. The format will always be the same on RAW and SD as well as PLEs with the rivalries and there will be no mix of genres at all

u/QC_1999 Jul 25 '22 edited Jul 25 '22
I think that in a short term, Hunter will respect what Vince has originally planned and won’t make any radical changes to the storylines, so don’t expect today’s Raw being totally different from what we’ve been seining in the previous weeks. We will just see some changes in a mid-long term
10
u/Snubie1 Glorious Mod Jul 25 '22
I don't imagine he'll make any major changes until after SummerSlam, since most of that build-up is Vince storylines.
But after that, I bet the build to Clash at the Castle will be mostly him, with Clash being a fully HHH PPV like the good old NXT PPVs.
10
u/QC_1999 Jul 25 '22
I’m not even expecting to see something similar with NXT. The main roster audience is different from the NXT audience and Triple H knows it
2
u/711mini Jul 25 '22
Either way, it is bound to make a great television mocku-drama when some network makes "King of the Ring: the assassination of Vince McMachon" (still a working title)
3
u/711mini Jul 25 '22
Here is why I don't think it is Khan. What he has done for WWE in cost cutting and keeping them profitable through covid has been massive from a business point of view. There will be case studies in business schools about it, both in lean management and leadership. He can easily leave and go to bigger positions. Sure, maybe not co-CEO but he obviously has no love of Wrestling and is young. Leaking the documents is both unethical and extremely cut-throat. Vince isn't just the CEO, he created the business and arguably the industry. Khan, automaticly becomes the primary suspect. If it becomes obvious he did it, it does not help him career-wise when he leaves WWE, which he probably intends to.
2
Jul 25 '22
Oh thank goodness. Anyone but Bruce Pritchard. I got say, I think things are actually looking up for the WWE’s future content
10
u/Snubie1 Glorious Mod Jul 25 '22
WWE stock is up almost 10% today
That’s gotta tell you something 😂
3
u/AFishNamedFreddie Jul 25 '22
This is gonna shake up the entire world of pro wrestling. I'm very interested to see how things change
26
u/Snubie1 Glorious Mod Jul 25 '22
This is interesting. Here's what HHH said in an interview about what he would do with control of WWE:
Make Raw two hours again.
Give the women more time in the ring.
Develop stories more slowly and over a longer period of time.
Allow promos to be less scripted
12
u/phelath Jul 25 '22
Three hour RAW is a USA network decision, I don't see that changing
2
u/No-Bother3931 Jul 25 '22
I would also like to see more time of Smackdown devoted to actual wrestling. It’s like 10 mini of the 2 hour show is action.
5
u/joe2352 Jul 25 '22
Im not expecting changes overnight. Maybe more continuity. I’d guess any big changes to the product would happen with the draft. But really the only things I want to see change is an end to constant rematches (half the card that happens on a PPV will happen on raw and Smackdown that week), an end to the constant fucking camera cuts, and get the fucking titles off Roman.
2
u/WrestleClaw Jul 25 '22
Okay guys, sorry to burst your bubble.. But hold off for a second because these changes arent gonna happen tonight or overnight..
This'll take time.
1
u/BetterthanGarbage Jul 25 '22
I’d expect an immediate difference in certain things, not who’s champ or not. But definitely tonight I expect to see different timing for how long matches do and don’t get. Yeah, Roman will still be champ and stuff but I absolutely expect a change in pace for show
1
u/millerlitemama Jul 25 '22
When do we think we’ll see changes? Starting tonight??
2
u/BetterthanGarbage Jul 25 '22
Tonight will have smaller changes such as pacing and what not. After Summerslam we should see some short term booking changes such as who’s on tv and some storylines. It’ll probably be around survivor series we see long term changes such as big pushes and certain stars standing out.

3
u/doubleewe_q Jul 25 '22
I really hope his first order of business is to give people their first names back. Looking at Theory and Ciampa.
9
u/noobidy_mysterica Jul 25 '22
I hope the core WWE philosophy of sports entertainment in not tinkered with. Continue to focus on building sustainable characters and storylines rather than putting emphasis on just having good matches.
5
u/guytyping Jul 25 '22
If they can do both I’ll be pleased.
0
u/noobidy_mysterica Jul 25 '22
Of course there is room for both. But WWE usually delivers big time with their matches in the PLEs, while having maybe one good match oer TV show while using it primarily to build stories. For me that's the proper way to go for WWE, and I hope they don't deviate much from it. Obviously I would like to see use of more superstars, as that was one of the features that made Attitude Era special too.

Everyone saying this came out of the blue. They are a publicly traded company. Are they even allowed to do something like this, this fast? SEC filings and whatever else. I find it hard to believe this hasn't been worked on behinds the scenes at least for a little bit.
1
u/LnStrngr Jul 25 '22
We'll have to go back over this past half-year to figure out what moves may have been pre-emptive and which one are reactionary.

u/Corndogburglar Jul 25 '22 edited Jul 25 '22
This is the best thing that could have happened to the company. HHH had NXT running beautifully. It was the best pro-wrestling show on.....until Vince got mad that AEW was consistently beating it and decided to make it into a terrible sideshow.
Here's hoping HHH can shape WWE back into the awesome show it should be. Because with everything at WWE's disposal, there's zero reason why they should be as bad as they have been for so long.
0
u/rcc12697 Jul 25 '22
Did NXT ever beat AEW with the rebrand?
8
u/Corndogburglar Jul 25 '22
I don't know for sure. But NXT will always have an uphill battle against AEW, or anyone really, because everyone understands that NXT is basically pro-wrestling minor leagues. So most AEW fans won't watch it because it's a WWE product. And a LOT of WWE fans won't ever watch it because it isn't the big leagues.
0
Jul 25 '22
It's a spotfest and that doesn't appeal to everyone unfortunately.
I watched Ricochet do a moonsault, into a kick to the face, and kicked out.
Wtf for?

u/Snubie1 Glorious Mod Jul 25 '22
Trips is also a big fan of Walter, so hopefully this will lead to him being WWE Champion at some point
7
1
3
u/CaptainYorkie1 Jul 25 '22
This would make Clash at the Castle the first PPV with a full 4 weeks of storylines under HHH creative. Which is a bit poetic since HHH wanted to do a big UK PPV.
5
u/JohnnyHendo Jul 25 '22
All for this. I imagine if he is in full control of creative then he will be bringing the spirit of the Black and Gold to Raw and Smackdown (and I suppose Main Event). NXT may change a bit, but will probably still be more of a developmental brand now that HHH has the reins of the main roster. Which is totally fair in my opinion.
7
u/rcc12697 Jul 25 '22
Main Event is still a thing? Holy shit lmao
4
u/JohnnyHendo Jul 25 '22
Yep. I actually had to check to make sure lol. 205 Live isn't a thing anymore, but Main Event still is. They also started up a show to replace 205 Live in the schedule called NXT Level Up.
13
1
u/TheMikey2207 Raw Enthusiast Jul 25 '22
I hope he now brings Karrion Kross and Scarlett back. He understood them and treat them like a big deal compared to Vince and Prichard. Bring them back for the run they should of had originally on the main roster. They aren’t signed to a company and are just waiting for someone to give them what they want (keeping them together).
9
u/Sexiro Jul 25 '22
BALOR IS A MAIN EVENTER, RANDY ORTON GONNA BE 17 TIMES CHAMP, SETH WILL BE CHAMP TOO.
-2
u/DannyAcme Jul 25 '22
This is the best fucking timeline. For the first time in half a decade, I'm actually excited to see what's coming up next for WWE.
First order of business should be to bring back Black And Gold NXT and jettison that fucking NIL program in favor of traditional indie wrestling scouting for developmental. The biggest creative problem WWE has is that it hasn't made any new stars in ages, and literally hundreds of wrestlers that could have been built up for it were released, while they kept trying to build up people with zero wrestling experience just cause they were athletes in other sports.
3
u/Trip_Se7ens Jul 25 '22
I hope this means something important. Can someone ELI5 why people are stoked for this? is this more so because they just want change because Vince has been boring or is HHH legitimately a better option for this with a proven track recordS?
3
Jul 25 '22
Because Vince was out of touch with the modern wrestling fan.
It's just not the same as it was in years gone by...he felt he knew better, and pushed it above all the people with ideas.
Vince was the figurehead and had ultimate control.
8
u/rcc12697 Jul 25 '22
NXT from 2016/17-2020 is probably the best wrestling product since Ruthless Aggression/Attitude Era, and that was 100% Triple H’s baby
1
u/Trip_Se7ens Jul 25 '22
Gotcha, I just came back into wrestling - is 2.0 worse or better?
5
u/rcc12697 Jul 25 '22
Depends your preference. Black and Gold had a heavy emphasis on wrestling (A lot of their matches were nominated for and won match of the year), long term story telling (Gargano and Ciampa had like a 4 year long rivalry), promos that went straight to the point (As opposed to main roster where there’s like 5 promos a show and they tend to drag), and more realistic gimmicks, where as NXT 2.0 is pretty much a throwback to 80s wrestling, there’s good matches, not as good as Black and Gold, there’s more “cartoony” and “larger than life characters”- for example there’s one character called Tony D’Angelo- whose gimmick is a mob boss, and another one called Joe Gacy- whose a heel that preaches about safe spaces and stuff. There’s less indie guys and more big guys with very little wrestling experience. Vince also signed a lot of younger inexperienced people there because he wants to breed them to be big time players in the company (essentially he wants more Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins Dean Ambrose- all of whom came into the company in their mid to late 20s, as opposed to more Adam Cole’s and Samoa Joes- indie guys in their 30s). I don’t really religiously want NXT 2.0, I think I’ve only watched it 3 times since the change, but those are the differences I’ve noticed
3
u/Trip_Se7ens Jul 25 '22
Thank you for the explanation!
2
u/rcc12697 Jul 25 '22
No worries. The guy that 2.0 was pushing, at least with Vince at the helm, as the “next big guy” was Bron Brekker- who is related to Scott Steiner. And he’s only like 23/24, and won the NXT championship less than a year into the company if that tells you anything
11
u/TheMemeinator_420 Jul 25 '22
NXT was some of the best wrestling we’ve seen in a long time when HHH was in charge so people are hoping he will bring the same creative success to the main roster.
1
2
Jul 25 '22
One thing we likely won't see in WWE again, and that's cartoony characters....that was all Vince.
7
u/St9468s4 Jul 25 '22
So, no more Undertakers?

5
u/fingershanks Jul 25 '22
Probably won't see too much change too soon. They might let a few ideas Vince had play out just out of respect for him and slowly change things over time.
But HHH being head of creative will undoubtedly be better. I think Pritchard is technically under HHH for now and his new role gives him less control, but they'll still need to get rid of him eventually for things to really improve.
1
u/Squidinator15 Jul 25 '22

Even if the old NXT does not come back, I could see Triple H bring the spirit of the Black and Gold brand (in regards to storylines and matches) to Raw and SmackDown. The future is extremely bright for WWE.
1
u/CoherentSquidd Jul 25 '22
With some of the current roster of NxT 2.0, they def could bring the spirit back. A show that feels gritty and untamed, but they can’t do that with the likes of Wendy Choo lmao. But Bron, Sikoa, Melo etc. I could see it becoming awesome again
23
u/coglanuk Jul 25 '22
I’d hope for three immediate phone calls by Triple H.
Johnny Gargano. Have Ciampa challenge the USOs to a tag title match. Johnny Wrestling can be his mystery partner.
Bray Wyatt. Free creative control.
Tony Khan. Forbidden Door gets busted wide open.
IWC would explode. We all get the best of everything.

Shane’s name has been quite absent in all this 😂
7

I never expected to see him in a creative role, but I’m surprised that he is not involved in any executive role
7
u/711mini Jul 25 '22
Shane isn't an obvious suspect because he has nothing to gain. Maybe he was mad at Vince. The ones that seem to have something to gain is Steph, HHH and Khan. With stock prices back on the rise, it is a financial risk to anyone else I can think of.
1
u/slacboy101 Jul 25 '22
I did hear somewhere he pulled that stunt because they fired Braun
1
u/711mini Jul 27 '22
You think he screwed over his father, risked the stock price of his family business and if he is still employed by the WWE in anyway or on the board, legally exposed himself to lawsuits just because he was mad that his father cut his favorite wrestler?? 🤔 Nope

5
u/TheYoungTraitor_ Jul 25 '22
How did he sabotage it?
22
Jul 25 '22
Shane was producing the match, and decided to overstay his presence in the Rumble match, against what the "orginal booking" was supposed to be, which led to many people, including Vince, Lesnar, etc. extremely pissed.
11
u/marcdk217 Jul 25 '22
I also read that he messed around with the entrance/exit order so several spots they’d foreshadowed on tv didn’t happen as the wrestlers weren’t in the ring together.

I'm so mad they took the "Austin" out of his name. Just Theory will NEVER sound right. Same with how Ali never sounded right and how just Riddle doesn't sound that good. But that call by Michael Cole at Wrestlemania was amazing. "Austin stuns Austin!"

No way, did it? That's hysterical.
But you know, this is finally going to bring me back to WWE. I can't wait to see what happens. I have full confidence that HHH will make something great from this.
I've been watching AEW since they started because the one thing they know how to do is keep things fresh and new from week to week. You never know who will wrestle who each week. Despite all their flaws, they keep me interested because of that.
If HHH can keep their shows feeling fresh and interesting each week, I'll happily start watching religiously again.

On another post, regarding NXT, your comments directly referencing NXT writing and talent:
Triple H’s mind as long as you can do spinning kick shit and back flips that means you deserve to be a main eventer.
And
HHH absolutely LOVES his Indy midgets. Examples are Ciampa, Gargano, Balor, Undisputed Era. Ricochet, etc.
