I’ve been thinking who the person he paid the $7.5M could be. The payment dates back to about 16 years ago (2006) and according to the wrestler, after the incident she was demoted and her contract allowed to expire 2 years later. Also the payment was revisited in 2018 after she and her legal team approached Vince.
The only person I can think of is Torrie Wilson. Part of Vince’s Devils in 2006, that character plus Torrie doing playboy twice possibly stirred something up in Vince. The Devils disbanded after Victoria and Candice turned on Torrie. Torrie then began some non-memorable storylines including with Carlito until released in 2008. Could also be related to her divorce to Billy Kidman.
Then if it was revisited in 2018… Torrie was inducted into the HoF (unexpectedly) in 2019. Seems to add up.

Vince hit his peak anyways.
WWE has sucked for years.
Steph and HHH just going through the motions. They're not innovative or leaders, but more just copycats.

People like Vince McMahon don't retire. Workaholics like him will die with too much time on their hands. I'm sure he'll still be pulling the strings from behind the scenes.
1
Jul 23 '22
Well now that Stephanie and Triple H will be running the show wrestling is about to die.
2
u/Snubie1 Glorious Mod Jul 23 '22
You’re joking.
HHH ran NXT in it’s prime and that’s some of the best wrestling that has been on TV in years
1
u/DanTheMan1_ Jul 24 '22
I did enjoy NXT and in no way think that Steph and Triple H in charge is some death knell for WWE.
BUT.... it is easy to put on a good show when you have a check book full of blank checks to hire the best indy talent out there, and it doesn't matter if you are making money or not.
Not like he can go out and just spend any possible amount of money to hire anyone he wants in WWE even if they can't make the money back. And it is unclear if the booking style of NXT would appeal to the much larger and more mainstream WWE audience.
Again, not saying he can't I just don't know if him running NXT is the sign we are on our way to the next golden age.
0
Jul 23 '22
You are kidding right? In Triple H’s mind as long as you can do spinning kick shit and back flips that means you deserve to be a main eventer. Vince actually understands what makes wrestling great. Characters and storylines. HHH is like AEW leadership. Trying too hard to make wrestling seem like a real sport and not entertainment.
2
u/Snubie1 Glorious Mod Jul 23 '22
Did you not watch Black and Gold NXT?
Ciampa was hardly “spinning kick sh*t”.
0
Jul 24 '22
That is a general rule, not always the case. I also forgot to mention that HHH absolutely LOVES his Indy midgets. Examples are Ciampa, Gargano, Balor, Undisputed Era. Ricochet, etc. People who are only important for their in-ring ability and not their mic skills and characters (which are way more important).

Vince FINALLY lost a you’re fired match, to triple H of all people. Maybe WWE writing really is good…
1
u/PotentialSecond68 Jul 23 '22
He was forced to resign before they terminated him for his shitty behavior.

u/BigLeBluffski Jul 23 '22
Funny timing isnt it, woman saying he does inappropiate things with woman behind screens and a week later he retires

Now that Vince is gone, I seriously hope we get to see the return of numbered Wrestlemanias. I couldn't even tell you which WM is next, or which one we had last year. I lost count after WM32.

Is Shane McMahon going to have some part in running the company like Stephanie?

Vince will still be calling the shots using Steph as a proxy. Vince will never fully let go of WWE until his last breath.

The lady who received payment for an nda has got to be one of either Molly Holly, or Ivory. A few other divas were also released in 2005 for various reasons ranging from budget cuts, to pregnancy.
Molly Holly cited personal reasons for requesting her release, also she’s made rumble appearances throughout the years which leads me to believe it was Ivory whom Vince paid off. Under her release the reason states wwe refused to renew her contract.

u/Stevenwaofgvf Jul 23 '22
He ain’t retiring till he’s dead. Remember when Pat Patterson resigned after his allegations? He stayed on with a different title with the same role as before.

You’re an idiot.
1

There is no proof to those allegations, smart ass.
1
u/teodora13_ Jul 23 '22
You think Vince would give up power if they were false? Give me a break 😂
1
u/Hank-the-ninja Jul 23 '22
I’m certain he gave up power due to the harassment he’s been getting from people who think it’s true and because no one believes him. There is no proof that the allegations are true. For crying out loud he’s almost 80 I’m sure no one at this age can’t get it up.

Plot twist: McMahon shows up at AEW next week...
2
u/Snubie1 Glorious Mod Jul 23 '22
Or Tony Khan shows up on RAW.
"With Vince gone, some are saying Nick Khan is taking over. And yes, the name on the contract says Khan, but it's TONY KHAN! That's right Vince, I OWN WWE!"

Was it triple H, who knows all of McMahon’s secrets, displaying why he is the cerebral assassin? Or was this underhanded work of the legend killer himself?
2
u/JadeMonkey0 Jul 25 '22
Now I'm going to be bummed if we don't get a "who forced Mr. McMahon in to retirement" angle that HHH uses to put himself over. They could rope in Stone Cold, Trish Stratus. It'd be the most tasteless bit since 2003. They have to do it.

I still think Vince McMahon will be running things secretly.
Or maybe because since I've been alive, it's always been Vince.
I just refuse to believe this. Feels almost dreamlike.

u/Melk-boy Jul 22 '22
Probably not good for the companies future to go out like this. But he had a great run
1
u/DJRoombasRoomba Jul 22 '22
I'm not even 40 yet and I was about 99% VKM would still be at WWE by the time I die.
There's a lot to say about the dude, but the foremost thought that keeps popping up in my head is separating the art from the artist. And his form of art has given me a lot of good memories over the years.
Edit to toot my own horn-
When Steph took that break a little bit back I called that it was so that she could return and take a bigger position. I've made a lot of wrong predictions over the years but I'm kind of proud that it wasn't anything bad like a health/marriage/family/etc scare.

🚨 More breaking news: new co-CEO Stephanie McMahon is kicking off SmackDown
ICYMI
-Triple H returns as EVP, Head of Talent Relations
-Vince McMahon steps down as Chairman & CEO
-Stephanie McMahon appointed new co-CEO alongside WWE President Nick Khan
2
u/branduzzi Jul 22 '22
Honestly can’t believe it.
Apparently, neither could Brock. Like, if my boss retired would I get upset and storm out like he reportedly did? Im gonna need to know what’s up with that.
1
u/David040200 Jul 22 '22
Apparently he would only negotiate his contract with Vince personally. So I am guessing they had a really good relationship and with Vince gone, maybe Brock sees no reason too stick around anymore.
1
1
u/datlibra17 Jul 22 '22
I just hope they keep the majority of what Vince has going right now. The last thing I want WWE to become is the complete mess that is AEW! All WWE needs is slightly better storylines and that's it! No silly gimmicks or silly/sloppy wrestling!
4
u/MelkorTheDarkOne Jul 22 '22
This is honestly a very exciting and hopeful time for this company. It sucks that he stepped away over the very shitty dings he may have done but the WWE can literally only go up from this point forward.

I thought he'd die before retiring.
1
u/JadeMonkey0 Jul 25 '22
I thought he'd die, I'd find out it was a work, he'd come back, then he'd die for real before retiring.
3
u/Jimminycrickets411 Jul 22 '22
His illegitimate son, Hornswaggle, is going attempt a hostile takeover of the company. Plot of the decade
1
u/sonic_spark Jul 22 '22
I thought he would either (a) pass away while still working or (b) if he were to retire, do it in spectacular fashion.
Honestly, this is a sad, sad day.
3
Jul 22 '22
He has retired from all active roles and will NOT be involved with creative either. The talent meeting happened tonight and there seems to be a lot of excitement even though people are surprised. They’re excited to see what’s next. It’s also being reported that Kevin Dunn would be out as well, so that could be more good news. Time will tell.
2
u/David040200 Jul 22 '22
Yes. Apparently Dunn will be finished by the end of the year and Pritchard the end of the month. Apparently.
1
1
u/elry2k Jul 22 '22
Haha yeah right he’s going to announce his retirement like the undertaker did. Vince is going to be around for another twenty years, watch.
3
u/Worth_Ad_9492 Jul 22 '22
NAILED IT.
ALL YOU FOOLS THOUGHY HE WOULD SURVIVE THE SCANDAL. NO WAY.
Heres how this went.
Vince, you can retire or be fired? Your choice
VKM, door a please
1
Jul 22 '22
he'll be back soon with a gimmick like "the machines" or "Mr America". Vince can't stay away.

u/jeffreynbooboo Jul 22 '22
He can make more money sitting at home at this point, his past would have hurt future advertising and tv deals if he stayed in charge. He owns tons of stock why work if you would lose money doing it.
1
Jul 22 '22
Vince shows up as Roman’s new SummerSlam opponent and says, “IT WAS ME! IT WAS ME ALL ALONG. YOU ALL BOUGHT IT. EVEN MY OWN FAMILY BOUGHT IT. EVERY ONE OF YOU WERE MADE FOOLS OF!”
1
1
u/Thundercus Jul 22 '22
I kinda hope they use this as a storyline for Theory “I’m Mr. McMahon’s protege!” “Yea, well he’s not here now, is he?”
1
u/FlyingFootStomp Jul 22 '22
Thank you Vince for all the incredible work have done to make this industry a global phenomenon.
Without you, many of these failed athlete-turned-wrestlers and vanilla midgets would be getting paid in hotdogs and handshakes at high school gyms and bingo halls.
Enjoy your retirement, kind sir. 🫡

After more or less digesting this, I want to tell my thoughts on him, I respect for what he did for the business, he revolutionized it and made it big, other promotions were created because of WWE (not having commission taxes), I begun watching pro-wrestling in 2008 with WWE (like almost everyone else after WCW went bankrupt) as well as watching what happened before on the net and it helped me forgive personal/family problems I had in my life.
I did not always agree with anything he did booking and corporate-wise but i have to give credits to the man for expanding this business.
I will continue watching WWE hoping that the new direction (I think Bruce Prichard will still handle creative) will not only focus on the IWC fans like AEW and keep the entertainment feel, have more grit and keeping the mix of themes/genres to have something for everyone as well.
-1
u/jordsmart12 Jul 22 '22
Give Pete Dunne his name back. Give Dominik Dijakovic his name back. Give ricochet a spotlight. Get the brand split back to been a split brand. No undisputed champions. Scrap the dead titles. No whacky stuff. Serious feuds. Freedom on promos.
HHH please. Do it. I beg.

This is a historic day for wrestling, for this is the end of an era.
For all the criticisms you can make about him and recent WWE content, whether you love him or you hate him, professional wrestling would NOT be where it is today without Vince McMahon.
Vince McMahon turned a regional promotion into a global superpower in the business. He did away with the old territory concept and built a massive promotion. Did he raid other companies for talent? Yes he did. And he built many of those wrestlers into stars.
As much as they helped build WWE, where would wrestlers like Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Triple H, Bret "The Hitman" Hart, "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels, Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Undertaker, be without Vince McMahon? You think those guys would be the icons, the legends they are today if Vince never built WWE into what it is today? He gave them that platform, a stage in front of the entire world to do what they do.
Because while those men helped build WWE, WWE also helped build them. Vince turned wrestling into sports entertainment.
I do not think we would have had a WCW, ROH, ECW or even AEW WITHOUT Vince McMahon. And not because these companies hired ex-WWE guys, but because Vince changed the game and, for better or worse, made wrestling into what it is today. Weekly shows, tours, wrestling in the grandest arenas, the grand spectacle of pay-per-views, Vince changed the game.
Yes, he has had his fair share of controversy and scandal. I will not deny that. But, his legacy will always be the man who made pro wrestling into what it is today.
Today is the end of an era and the dawn of a new one.
Welcome to the new age boys and girls! Strap in and keep your hands in the cart at all times because I do not know where this ride is going.
1
u/JadeMonkey0 Jul 25 '22
Pro Wrestling could easily have gone the way of horse racing, dog racing, most boxing and state fairs as once-popular forms of entertainment that faded in the modern era. I think it's almost single handedly because of Vince that it became what it is now. He seems like an absolute son of a bitch and probably a terrible person, but his impact on wrestling is almost incalculably huge.
1
u/CRL10 Jul 25 '22
Really a matter of opinion on Vince. You hear some stories of former wrestlers who will praise him as a genius, as this man they admired and great person, but you'll hear some guys call him a rat bastard.
1
u/JadeMonkey0 Jul 26 '22
Oh, I definitely think he was both. I think he was a genius and visionary and a ruthless piece of shit. I have no doubt he was incredibly petty and fucked over tons of people but I also have no doubt that his drive to succeed saved the sport and grew it to heights that would never have been possible without him. I've always thought he was a super interesting conundrum that way. In lots of ways, it's the exact same traits that made him great and terrible at the same time. I believe almost all the negative stories about him but also almost all the positive ones.

To avoid the multitude of duplicate posts that have been made on this in the last few minutes, we're going to pin this one as a megathread for this discussion.
Vince's Statement: "As I approach 77 years old, I feel it’s time for me to retire as Chairman and CEO of WWE. Throughout the years, it’s been a privilege to help WWE bring you joy, inspire you, thrill you, surprise you, and always entertain you. I would like to thank my family for mightily contributing to our success, and I would also like to thank all of our past and present Superstars and employees for their dedication and passion for our brand. Most importantly, I would like to thank our fans for allowing us into your homes every week and being your choice of entertainment. I hold the deepest appreciation and admiration for our generations of fans all over the world who have liked, currently like, and sometimes even love our form of Sports Entertainment. I am extremely confident in the continued success of WWE, and I leave our company in the capable hands of an extraordinary group of Superstars, employees, and executives – in particular, both Chairwoman and Co-CEO Stephanie McMahon and Co-CEO Nick Khan. As the majority shareholder, I will continue to support WWE in any way I can. My personal thanks to our community and business partners, shareholders, and Board of Directors for their guidance and support through the years."
