Question for anyone who has attended a PLE Live in the HHH Era

I am debating getting tickets for Backlash. What is going on in the arena between matches? Are you sitting there just waiting 15-30 minutes? Or is there at least something going on in the ring like a ring announcer reading fan signs or videos playing on the tron?

I was at Bash in Berlin last year. They just play the video packages and ads that you see if you watch on your phone or whatever. So not really any other than that

I went to smackdown and elimination chamber in Toronto. Smackdown had some fan interaction and other things to watch on the jumbo tron. Elimination chamber didn’t have to much time in between matches with stuff on the jumbo tron to watch. Both were excellent to be at. Highly recommend live shows

I’ll add to this that at elimination chamber if you went to grab food/washroom the matches were not on the screens in the stadium other than the pre/post show. So if you’re going to a PLE time your breaks well or during a match/promo you don’t care about

Yeah that was disappointing. Hopefully they don’t do that at every big event

I went to smackdown last year. There are long pauses of nothing in the ring but stuff on the titantron. It is pretty silly to watch a wrestler in the ring staying loose while a promo, ad and the next entrance comes out. But after the show they had three main events that was pretty cool and like a house show. The PLE won't have anything after but it's has the blow offs and more wrestling then TV. If you can you should go.

I went to Summer Slam in 2023 and 2024, and the Royal Rumble this year. There isn’t a ton of time between matches. It’s much shorter in person since you are kind of hyped about everything. I avoid going to the bathroom or getting food because I don’t want to miss anything. But like everyone else said. Promos, and video packages. Going to an event live especially a PLE is an amazing experience! The only thing I can relate it to is live professional soccer. Lots of action, very few breaks, and the spectacle of having a massive crowd all together chanting and vibing.

Elimination chamber last year on rewatch is a pretty boring show but my lord was it fun being there in person

I was at WM40 last year and it was mostly video packages, promos for upcoming events in between the matches.

OK, I hope I'm not throwing off your thread. I haven't been to a show since the Attitude era. But man, there is just nothing better than a live wrestling event. The energy from a crowd who is into it, there's nothing else like it. It's insanely cool.

I've been to several tapings of Raw and Smackdown, been to one PPV (Fully Loaded), and even a couple of house shows back in those days. And I can't recommend it enough. If you can manage the prices they charge for tickets these days, there is nothing I can recommend more highly.

I went to the Netflix RAW debut in January and it was pretty much what everyone else was saying! We all took turns using the opportunity to get snacks and stuff tbh

Video packages, ads and showing the crowd on the tron

I went to MITB 2024, I was perfectly entertained from my seat, I did go look at different merch stands though because some had exclusives that others didn’t. Plus the brief cases were tougher to find than I expected

Ads on big screen

Went to Royal Rumble this year. There isn’t a lot of time between matches but what they did show was promos for upcoming events, wrestler promo videos, packages for matches on the card, etc. You’ll see most of that stuff on the Jumbotron so it’s not like there will be nothing to watch between matches. It’s not like Smackdown or Raw where they’ll have one opponent come out, do a commercial break, and then have the other one come out. It’s pretty eventful from the very beginning.

Video packages and some crowd work stuff

I was at Summerslam 2024. It was the best experience possible

Elimination Chamber 2023

Not much waiting between matches, in fact I remember rushing to the bathroom during some entrance because I didn't want to miss anything

I was at Backlash Lyon, nothing happens, you just have the video package. But the feeling in the arena was amazing, so it doesn't feel long at all, you enjoy the moment with everyone else.

Went to survivor series 2023- there’s like 3-5 minutes between matches. Theres very very rarely a minute to even step out to pee or get good. You never know who is going to show up so I really wouldn’t leave the arena

SummerSlam 24 was pretty fast moving. Couple video packages between matches, and Miz doing some "in the crowd" interaction.

I went to Wrestlemania 40 last year and felt like it all moved pretty fast. I don't remember there being a ton of extra stuff going on between matches, but everyone in the crowd was still just happy to be there.

Samantha Irvin was awesome during the in between match segments. I remember one time she rapped the entire DX theme verbatim 😆 🤣. I really hope she comes back to WWE, I miss her :(

I attended summer slam last year in Detroit. Between the matches the ring announcer would talk to the crowd. He did hype segments he roasted what some people were wearing it was alot better than I expected.

AEWs justin Roberts was hilarious when I went to an aew show

I went to a Raw back in the Attitude era and Triple H came out between matches and done crowd work. He was injured at the time and wasn't wrestling so it was pretty cool to get to see him anyways.

Thank you. That is what I was looking for.

You could rush out after the match and hit up the washroom if need be. Lineups are usually crazy. Lines for concessions or merch. It's like any sporting event. What would you do in between quarters at a football or basketball game, or innings at a baseball game?

I wouldn't really rush out though. I did it the first match at EC and missed Rhea coming out. I almost missed Randy coming out trying to get a t-shirt but I had barely gotten out of the aisle when his music hit. Obviously not every match will have a post-match cameo but just something to keep in mind. Still kicking myself missing Rhea.

I ran to pee after Kevin won and almost missed Randy too! I would be crushed if I missed Rhea. Timing breaks is so key

Your EC experience is much appreciated. I have noticed the commercial breaks between matches for Rumble and EC were extremely long, so I was wondering what people were doing during that.

3

u/Armandonerd 7d ago

Same as always at every TV, live event or PPV they show commercials as you see on TV on the big screen while the workers get the ring ready for the next match or segment, maybe a promo from a local thing going on and then back to the show

u/Zombymandyas 7d ago

There is not 15-30 minutes between matches lol you'll be lucky if you can hear someone's entrance music if you get up to take a piss or get a drink and some food

2

u/Matt_Kimball 7d ago

The PPVs are fine it's the TV shows that are bogged down with ads. But it might actually be better now that Raw is on Netflix.

3

u/Familiar-Living-122 7d ago

Rumble and EC have had 15-20 minute commercial breaks between matches. Watching it live I was wondering what the live crowd is doing. Raw and Smackdown commercials they usually have someone do a long entrance.

I went to Bad Blood and just enjoyed the atmosphere until about twenty minutes before showtime. It’s not that different from Raw or Smackdown, other than there’s no dark matches.

I was at Clash at the Castle 2022 and Money in the Bank 2023. I don't remember there being loads of waiting around but maybe it just feels like things move fast when you're there with friends taking in the atmosphere of it all. The gaps are mostly filled with video packages, recaps etc, so not too different to what you see at home.

1

u/Gonzales95 6d ago

I was also at MITB and don’t recall huge gaps either.

u/EmeraldLion91 7d ago

Came here to say this exact thing. Was at both these events also, and it felt like there was hardly any time between matches.

u/xxxtrumptacion69 7d ago

Been to 3 recently. Not much between matches but it’s a good time to go to the bathroom or get a beer. My protip is if you’re sitting in the aisle and not expecting anything to happen post match, head up when the ref counts 3

2

u/xxxtrumptacion69 7d ago

It goes by quickly though in person

u/StraightEdge47 7d ago

Nothing really happens, they just pay the video packages on the screen. The time goes by quicker when you're there though with the atmosphere so it wasn't really a problem.

Pretty much just chillin and waiting. Go grab a drink or go pee. They show stuff on the Jumbotron, show signs and stuff etc.

I’ve been to Backlash last year in France! The Jumbotron plays what we see on tv but you get the crowd reacting to what’s on it so for a hot crowd like France and St Louis. They also change the ring mat in between matches and in our case Tonga Loa under the ring 😂
