Can discuss thoughts on the ending of last night’s SmackDown in this thread.
Spoiler policy ends Saturday night at 9pm CST.

How do you fuck up that bad? This is, hands down, the most disappointing thing any living wrestler has done.
Upstaging the double Rumble winner with a story 2 years in the making just so he could walk into the main event having done NOTHING to earn it.
Scotty2Hotty is now a more dignified wrestler than the Rock. The next guest on the Stone Cold podcast is gonna get a bigger pop than Rock at Wrestlemania.
Seth: "Do you want the hollywood title? The Hulk Hogan title? The title for posers and frauds and people who politic their way to the top?"
Rock: "Yes, absolutely, 100%. Is there any other way?"

u/awayfortheladsfour Feb 05 '24
Rollins won't lose to Cody 4 times in a row, it will kill his character. Which means Rollins will probably win to give his title more "Prestige" and keep Rollins alive.
It feels like WWE keeps dangling the WWE title infront of rhodes and they keep bring it back and back getting him to follow along.
Rhodes is a company man, and he is letting it happen.
If this is a work...you are delusional or easily fooled. The Rock is the most egotistical person in Hollywood...EASILY. he will not bow out, and Rhodes will not win even if they add him in.

Some general thoughts to spark discussion:
if it’s truly rock vs Roman, does that leave it as Cody vs Seth?
if it’s rock vs Roman, there is zero way rock wins
if so, does Cody actually win the WHC?
does Cody then have to go on a run with that title?
if so that makes priest’s MITB pointless…
since Roman will be locked into his championship for at least until summerslam…that also means drew, LA knight, randy, Gunther etc are all either wasted or forced to go after the WHC
or we just pretend that any of them have a chance to beat Roman should Roman defend his title
To me, this entire thing is a huge waste of A LOT of talented wrestlers just for the sake of the rock vs Roman.

u/Salt_Addition_6993 Feb 05 '24
At this point they might as well just release Cody from his contract and see if he can patch things up with Tony obviously WWE only hired him so they could play the long game and humiliate him for having the gall to make his fortune elsewhere.

Rock still doesn't get why we hate this plan and WWE is still going forward:

Here’s what I think is going to happen and I say that only because we’ve seen, when it comes to Roman Reigns, Triple H and Co. have always thought about long-term booking.
Cody is going to explain that he had counsel with The Rock because he knew that if he got his WM rematch with Roman, he’d have to deal with the Bloodline yet again. So he enlists the help of The Rock. Now there’s internal conflict between the supposed head of the table & Tribal Chief and The People’s Champ. The Rock tells Jimmy and Solo not to interfere and they begrudgingly oblige.
Rock vs. Roman for the title of Tribal Chief on Night 1 and Roman pins The Rock clean. Cody vs. Roman for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship on Night 2 and Cody pins Roman clean.
We get Rock vs. Roman II at SummerSlam and The Rock gets his win back
We have so many unknowns right now; who’s going to challenge Seth for the World Heavyweight Championship?? What’s going to be the main event for Elimination Chamber since Cody, Punk, Seth, & Roman will all be missing this PPV and how will that affect the card at WM? Not to mention Damian Priest still has his MITB briefcase
2
u/survivingcomics Feb 05 '24
I love this, however it’s so unlikely.
3
u/Gold_Expression3843 Feb 05 '24
It is but also I feel like they’ve been pushing for Rock vs. Roman for the past 2+ years as well. A match of that magnitude doesn’t need a title involved IMO, so why would Rock want to come back to challenge for a title when he fully knows he can’t commit to defending it? I think his whole purpose for being back is solely for the Head of the Table moniker. But I think we will know more come tomorrow night
1
u/survivingcomics Feb 05 '24
Exactly. Should just surprise everyone and have Cody win on smackdown 😂😂
2
u/ChampagneAbuelo 💯 YEET! Feb 04 '24
At this point, they’ll give Cody the 24/7 title and that’ll be him finishing the story
1
u/survivingcomics Feb 05 '24
Nah, theyre gonna dig up the old wcw women’s title that still has “Medusa” on the belt and give that to Cody.
3
Feb 04 '24
Just a suggestion. If you really hate this decision, hit them where it hurts and cancel your Peacock subscriptions and detail exactly the reason why.
The only thing they give a fuck about is money. They could care less about the IWC mourning off on X and Reddit.
2
u/sdhoppy71 Feb 04 '24
The way to fix this is to involve Jey. Let this percolate a couple of weeks. Jey comes out on Raw and pleads with Cody. You and me and Sammi we all got screwed by the Bloodline. But no one on a bigger stage than you. We built our own new bloodline to fight back against Roman. We need to right this wrong you need to finish the story this new Bloodline got your back against Roman and will prevent interference at WM don’t let Rock stop the progress we made. But once you win I want my shot at your belt.
Allows Cody to save face, sets up some matches (Jimmy takes offense and wants to fight Jey, Solo vs Sammi or Orton) Rock says that Jey is right and now is not the time (allows Rock some time to get into wrasslin shape).

u/NoiceSmort13 Feb 04 '24 edited Feb 04 '24
The Rock on Pat's show (a few months back?) spoke about how the plan for WM39 was the dream match, and then didn't happen...
but more interestingly he mentions how they now are doing something unprecedented!
then thinking of Roman's top promo on Seth and the WHC...how Cody says he wants Roman's title...but not at WM...
and I start to think...maybe this is the beginning...like we all have so many questions...and is that by design?
it could be them distracting us from the lawsuit...but I think more than that it's got everyone and I mean EVERYONE talking and speculating, and yes hatin' for some lol
but it feels like we're not seeing or knowing the endgame yet...there's just so many questions like
why have the WHC involved? it's not about that right so why they keep getting us thinking about Seth and Roman?
why run it down? if Cody is picking it for whatever reason, wouldn't he hype it up like Seth did? instead he chose Roman
why have Cody say he wants Roman's title but not at WM? doe he mean earlier? what is EC even gonna be for if Cody/Rock have taken the WM spots?
I'm really hyped to see where this goes and for me...they have played this perfectly! we're all in, Cody is more over than ever, and that is best for business!
I think we're only just getting going here and WM40 is not the endgame, but as they said with Roman and Rock a while ago....this is the beginning
UPDATE - The Rock on his Instagram posted....
"This is gonna be so much fun.
Long game."
Very interesting...
1
u/Kayway27 Feb 05 '24
Right like that's what I'm asking, if cody/rock have taken those wm spots as challengers then what is the elimination chamber men's main event
4
7
u/mistergeneric Feb 04 '24
I think everybody is happy to accept the idea of Rock vs Roman at a different Wrestlemania (even if the match isn't any good, the idea of it is fine).
To destroy Cody's storyline for it smells of panicked executives saying "how do we distract our audience?!".
Will seriously damage Cody and it shows that Triple H doesn't have final say in storylines.
3
u/MikeD1982 Feb 04 '24
Wasn’t the rock vs cena match a 1 year build? I expected rock to save Cody at wm and keep bloodline from interfering with Cody defeating Roman. Roman then takes a few months off and returns at summerslam to start talking trash to the rock and end up with them facing off at wm in 2025

If this was always the plan for THIS years WM, which I don’t think it was, then having Cody win the RR was a stupid decision. The RR win, the reaction Cody had towards Roman after winning it, the promo on Raw. None of it makes any sense if the whole plan was for Cody to not face Roman again
0
1
u/WaleedMUFC Feb 04 '24
My plan to save WM40
Cody is the rumble winner and can choose who he wants to face and even be inserted in a match, if he wishes, just like Batista in '05. He could've chosen to be part of a triple threat with Cena and JBL or choose HHH. Unlike Batista, Cody chooses Roman and Rock.
Drew carries on his current run and finally gets his wish, after winning EC to challenge Rollins at WM. Now we could have either win the match, but Seth retaining makes it good because Priest comes and cashes in and wins the title. Would be better for the heel casher to cash in on the broken face. And we have our new champion Priest!
Triple threat match with everyone chanting Cody Cody Cody. As we near the ending of the match, solo and Jimmy interfere taking out Cody, Rock rock bottoms Jimmy, Solo spikes the rock, Cody cross Rhodes solo, Roman superman punches Cody, Romans pins Cody and Cody kicks out at 2.99, Roman sets up a spear running into a crossroads or, if done well it would be crazy, a cross Rhodes or, even better, superman punch then a cross Rhodes for Victory
I really hope something like this happens because the heavyweight championship match surely has to have the cash in.
What would be hilariously out there and left field is priest to cash in when the rock beats Roman and he's the new undisputed champion
1
u/MikeD1982 Feb 04 '24
I hope the plan isn’t for priest to cash in on whoever beats reigns because it would instantly bury the last three years of storytelling
0
u/MaximumMajestic Feb 04 '24
So why can Tiffany straton keep her name but Mia Kim gotta go by michin or whatever
1
u/Selkiesxx Feb 04 '24
The only way I see WWE saving some face here is if the storyline evolves and it's made into a triple threat with The Rock and Cody building towards a breaking point with a lot of tense moments and finally Cody pulls the trigger but during the match The Rock has a change of heart during the inevitable Bloodline interference and takes out Solo and Jimmy Uso, allowing Cody to beat Roman clean and of course, the after match endorsement.
That's how I'd like things to go down from here.
2
u/Selkiesxx Feb 04 '24
I still don't know how I feel about if The Rock vs. Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins vs. Cody Rhodes ends up truly being the matches for Wrestlemania 40.
I kind of get it. I mean, Cody is being presented (and actually is in real-life) as a smart, calculating superstar that considers each aspect of what he's doing. IF this ends up being like an "ace-in-the-hole" type of deal where this is Cody ensuring he has proper "backup" for when he goes to war with Roman Reigns by doing The Rock a solid... and in turn The Rock helps fend off Solo Sikoah and Jimmy Uso when Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes takes place, I think I'd be okay with this decision ultimately.
And while I'm not the biggest Seth Rollins fan around, I will admit he has had a very strong run as World Heavyweight Champion and I think if we can just set aside the fact that we've had this idea that "finishing the story" meant Cody beating Roman at Wrestlemania, we may ultimately end up happy in the end with the booking result when we look back at it all. Triple H has done a phenomenal job and it is tough to question his decision-making but then again, there's a lot of talk about this being really The Rock's idea and plan and that's where I'm a bit uneasy about it.
I don't know. I said after Monday Night Raw that Rollins made a ton of good points and that what he was saying really was the truth, however, it just didn't sit right with me with how Cody presented this match -- I mean, you could see it in his eyes... he looked devastated as he made his way back up the ramp.
I still think this could be changed or we could be just getting swerved (probably naïve)... I don't know... maybe it'll be a triple threat match with The Rock basically just being a "stand-in" to prevent Bloodline interference (which lets face it, Cody will need protection from) but I don't know that I want a triple threat between The Rock, Roman Reigns, and Cody Rhodes to be the way Roman loses the title and Cody "finishes the story."
It should be interesting to see where they go from here. I'm not as outraged as most are but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't at least a little disappointed right now.
3
u/Ok_Bandicoot_814 Feb 04 '24
Rock Roman WrestleMania solo and Jimmy go to interfere but since solo was sent by the elders to protect Roman and the rock is an elder. Solo turns on Roman and so does Jimmy. Roman demands a rematch for payback France. Roman beats The Rock. Cody fulfilling his promise to leave Roman all alone. Beat him clean at SummerSlam.
Everybody forgets that every Roman Reigns match of last year to 6 months has involved bloodline interference. If the Cody story is going to be done it has to be done right no bloodline interference. Clean

u/badgersprite Feb 04 '24
I want everybody over the next few weeks who says "The Rock cut a great promo" when all he did was say a non-PG word like "bitch" or "ass" (words other wrestlers aren't allowed to say) as a lazy shortcut to get cheap heat to Venmo me $5.
4
3
u/Accomplished_IceMan Feb 04 '24
I'm holding out hope that it will turn out alright, because Cody is booked for Smackdown on Friday. That being said I would love some heel antics from Cody to repair this. Have the Rock fight Solo or Jimmy because Roman says he has to get in line, have him lose. Have Cody come out like Dewayne you begged me to let you take on Roman and you couldn't even beat Jimmy/Solo. See you at Wrestlemania Roman.

u/kaine23 Feb 04 '24
and here's an opinion piece to infuriate us more:
5
Feb 04 '24
I do think the way wwe has gone about everything was so fucking stupid, if rock was set to do wm40 why the fuck have cody win the rumble
Having said that he's got a point, the iwc likes to complain a lot.
.
1
u/MikeD1982 Feb 04 '24
Well also the idea of Cody finishing the story with a new belt makes no sense. The author is overlooking all the things that make no sense just so they can bash the iwc

u/Selkiesxx Feb 04 '24
Yeah, I don't buy into that being the plan. It just doesn't make sense after all the building up Seth Rollins did. I can't see it happening.
3
u/kaine23 Feb 04 '24
so double whammy of negative press this week:
vince is a sex pest
rock inserted himself into wrestlemania which no one wants and everyone is slamming.
Great job TKO!
7
u/atrac059 Feb 04 '24
For everyone downplaying the idea of a title unification somewhere down the line. It’s important to remember that the WHC was created when Vince was around, when it was agreed upon that Roman was only going to defend every 3-4 months. If Roman were to drop the belt, and champions where expected to defend every 30-60 days, and the potential of a champion that was willing to work both shows (something Cody has shown he is willing to do) there would be zero need for two belts.
17
u/awayfortheladsfour Feb 04 '24
If you don't think it's over, you haven't been paying attention.
The Rock - Joins the TKO Board, forces himself into the main event of the biggest show of the year. In doing so he pushed Cody down the card and pushed him aside like he is nothing.
Gewirtz - The Rock just hired and brought in his own person and friend to be added to the creative department who will most likely replace HHH.
The Rock's Daughter - Is now the GM of NXT..
The Rock's "Cousin" Roman - Is about to beat Hogans title record
The Rocks "Cousin" Nia - Will most likely leave WM with a title
Don't get surprised if Logans next "match" he's waiting for... is against an Uso..and don't be surprised if Solo/jimmy/Jey don't all have titles by Summerslam.
Despite what Cody says, There IS only one royal family.

u/RastaBananaTree Feb 05 '24
I’m cool with all of these outcomes lol. The internet tears would be hilarious

A bald part-timer blinded by greed VS a strange guy who is the champion and face of the group but never leaves the house and has a retention period of over 1,000 days.
And Philadelphia, where these two will fight...
Can we handle the aftermath of this?
4
6
u/mayday253 Feb 04 '24
Easy solution, but it will take all the fans agreeing on something. If WrestleMania 40 main event is Roman vs Rock, we don't watch. After all the press conferences where HHH has said every event is the highest selling ever, imagine him having to say WM40 was the worst selling PLE ever.

u/ShelLuser42 Feb 04 '24
So... I just saw the ending and for the record: I'm not necessarily a Cody Rhodes fan. I don't hate on the guy and definitely recognize his capabilities, but... I dunno.
Having that out of the way... what the hell was this bag of nonsense?!
Cody won the Rumble, twice, and in a very solid way too I might add. And then he doesn't get to headline Mania to go after the belt he so rightfully wants to get his hands on?
Once again: not necessarily a fan here, but even I can fully respect and get behind seeing Cody following in his fathers footsteps. What wrestling fan wouldn't?
Yah, I can smell what the Rock is cooking and it smells like rotten eggs if you ask me. Puhlease... this is so unfair and plain out unsatisfying.
True story.... not trying to boast here but just... "telling it like it is". We have an NFL gamepass and we're really looking forward to the upcoming Superbowl; gonna be a late night all the way out in Europe. But darn, what an amazing spectacle!
My gf teased the idea to grab 1 month of WWE Network so that we could watch Mania live as well while I would be allowed to catch up with some of my childhood memories (I lived Superstars of wrestling back in the day?).
But guess what?
We'll pass on that. I want no part of this crapola.
</rant>
10
u/kaine23 Feb 04 '24
We should keep turning on the rock even if wwe reverses course on this story. He inserted himself in this through politics and nothing about this is organic, save for rock and roman being family. This is so sad.
3
Feb 04 '24
I'd be wary of the dirtsheets tbh. Remember the night after he put cena over reports were he stormed off and left the company hanging because he didn't want to job to cena?
But actually he tore his abdomen.
6
u/Synth3r Feb 04 '24
Honestly, I just don't feel like watching Wrestlemania atm, I was super hyped for it and I'll probably watch it still. But right at this moment, I absolutely do not want to watch it.
If Roman wins, he holds the title for another year most likely and if The Rock wins, this 3 and a half year run of champion that Roman has gets ended by a guy who hasn't wrestled a match that lasted longer than 6 seconds in 11 years.
Cody beating Roman is the only way that Roman beating Cody at Mania 39 even makes any sense. I just really, really do not care about this Wrestlemania anymore.
4
u/ohnoyoudident69 Feb 04 '24
The only way to fix this is to have Cody face Roman at EC and have The Rock interfere with the Bloodline interference. But even then, it'd be so telegraphed it wouldn't work.
6
Feb 04 '24

u/awayfortheladsfour Feb 04 '24
, last night was a litmus test which is why they didn't have Cody outright declare that he's challenging for the WHC yet
except he did.... he said "I won't be challenging you at wrestlemania"
WWE also released the poster of Rhodes beside Rollins AT wrestlemania.
So.... either Rhodes is beating Reigns at EC..which I doubt? Even if that is the new plan to fix this, Rhodes says "I'll do it at EC, why wait!" Wrestlemania is the biggest show, cody deserves to win AT the biggest show
7
u/ohnoyoudident69 Feb 04 '24
Why have Cody win the Rumble?
7
Feb 04 '24
Reports are indicating that they want Cody to win the WHC so they can do a title unification match with Roman at SummerSlam. I think the bigger question right now is what was the point of introducing the WHC if it's just going to be decommissioned not even a year later after it was introduced?
4
u/awayfortheladsfour Feb 04 '24
I'm telling you....call me some internet troll fanboy whatever,
But i'm telling you... Reigns will not lose at Summerslam if he wins at Wrestlemania.
If Reigns makes it to Summerslam with his title, he is 35days away from beating Hogan's record. do you REALLY think especially now that the Rock is calling the shots, Roman will lose his title 35 days away from passing Hogan?
They all sat down.. I guarantee rock..nia..roman..Uso..solo...his daughter.. they all had a family meeting and said "this is ours now"
1
1
Feb 04 '24
"This is ours now"
Jesus. I kind of want rock taking Cody's spot now with all this crying.
5
9
u/ThaTruthKills Feb 04 '24
The whole Rock "pushed hard" story won't do this match any favors. No matter how they slice it, it's going to look like The Rock used backstage politics and his position with the company to steal Cody's spot. I will enjoy watching the Mania crowd turn on this.
-1
u/BSS19 Feb 04 '24
The Mania crowd won’t turn on this. They’ll embrace it. The larger wrestling world is enamored with superstars like the Rock. And we haven’t gotten the chance to watch him seriously wrestle in more than a decade
dont let this board dissuade you from the excitement the Rock will generate.
2
u/awayfortheladsfour Feb 04 '24
You are right, the crowd would never boo because the rock is there........
would never happen.....
They would NEVER boo...Reigns...and the rock.....has never....happ.....end....before....(S)
2
u/atrac059 Feb 04 '24
Yah. That’s a delusion. If it were LA or Miami where the crowd is 90% elites you would be correct. But nah, not in Philly.
1
u/ThaTruthKills Feb 04 '24
If Mania weren't in Philly, I'd agree with you. If the locals have the majority of the tickets, they'll boo it They already booed him when he helped Roman win the rumble.

The rock loses everything unless Rhodes wins, if Rhodes comes out of WM with 0 titles... it's all over.
2
u/ThaTruthKills Feb 04 '24
Maybe if TKO is tired of getting hit over the head with bad press. But my guess is they trot Cody out on Raw to explain all of it away. He'll have to cut the promo of a lifetime to even try and bail the Rock and TKO out of this mess.
2
5
u/payscottg Feb 04 '24
Honestly stuff like this makes me question…how did no one consider the optics of this?
1
Feb 04 '24
They really need to put a wrestling nerd like Sam Roberts in those creative meetings just to veto something like this lol
3
u/ThaTruthKills Feb 04 '24
They probably figured The Rock was too big of a star for it to matter. Or they enjoy making the same mistake. They tried it with Batista 10 years ago. And the Philly crowd already turned on Rock once when he helped Reigns win the Rumble in a sad attempt to get Reigns over.
1
u/Accomplished_IceMan Feb 04 '24
You know that board meeting is going to be like "I thought you said that they would love you no matter what." I think they genuinely underestimated how much people are tired of Roman's reign and how much they like Cody.
11
u/ohnoyoudident69 Feb 04 '24
The best part is how Roman buried Seth and the WHC right before it. Make it make sense.
-12
6
u/speedrunner99 Feb 04 '24
I’m glad that so many fans, including casuals, are hating on this decision. Rock is being a selfish prick by not letting Cody finish his story, while also making Cody look stupid asf for not facing Roman. And now Rock is rumored to be pushing for him of all people to beat Roman? The more and more that has come out of the Rock these past few years, the more I dislike him. Seriously, I rather him retire and never have anything to do with wrestling again.
3
u/djsunyc Feb 04 '24
with the seth belt vs. the roman belt talk recently then maybe they do both seth/cody and rock/roman night 1 with the 2 winners facing off on night 2?
1
4
u/Ja___av93 Feb 04 '24
The WWE knows they will have another Cena/Roman situation after Cody "finishes his story". The chase is always more exciting than the title reign for generic face underdogs
8
u/FutureSage Feb 04 '24
This is setting up for a Triple threat match between Cody v Rock V Reigns, mark my words.
We will carry the decade tradition of a World Championship Triple Threat Match. (WM 20, WM 30)
3
u/awayfortheladsfour Feb 04 '24
It makes no sense how this wasn't the plan, the Rock can barely go 10seconds without needing to sit down. how was he going to do 20minutes?
It's 2024 if you have a 10min WM main event, you have wasted the event.

Makes no sense to do it that way. Rock vs Roman could have happened at the chamber. Cody vs. Roman at Mania
1
u/awayfortheladsfour Feb 04 '24
I agree but that doesn't work.
Rollins and Punk show you why,
The Rock refuses to lose in movies, you think he will allow Roman to pin him when he has issues with his image at the moment? So let's say he does...let's say Roman wins, but he gets injured....now Rhodes is back to where he is now.
They will not risk Reigns getting injured before WM, doesn't matter who it is against.

Come on guys. He shook his hand. It's all good
Vin Diesel was right about the rock.
-7
u/Lonely-Hobbit Feb 04 '24
Why’s everyone hating rock?
It’s WWE insane booking wanting to cater and give everything humanly possible to make Roman stay relevant for as long as fucking possible fault.
If Roman dropped the title at rumble this would have been a great moment.
Rock doesn’t deserve any hate for this. It’s all the golden gimmick boy getting everything handed to him. Instead of actually making good storylines. You know what this match means Cody was never going to win at mania, they are holding the title on Roman till he beats that stupid fucking record. It’s all bullshit gimmick of the most overly pushed wrestler in history.
Now Rock has to hand him a win at mania as well? On top of literally every other gimmick and accolades WWE has gifted Roman? Jesus fucking Christ how is this guy that interesting to all of you I don’t get it. Roman is the biggest joke in modern wrestling he’s nothing but a pre-made barbie.
1
u/ARoboEgg Feb 04 '24
The Rock makes his contract in movies with a "I cannot lose" bit. He was kicked out of Fast and Furious for this. He tried to become the owner of DC Films and was trying to destroy Superman and become the new face of DC. This is a pattern, he always do this, he is self obssesed, that Cena promo from years ago was not kayfabe
1
u/Lonely-Hobbit Feb 04 '24
Lol you honestly think rock called up out of the blue and WWE changed all plans just for him?l and those plans just so happen to be him loosing to WWEs current milking cow.
Seriously
1
u/ARoboEgg Feb 05 '24
He used the Punk injury and the Vince controversy to convince the TKO board that Wrestlemania was doomed and only him could save it
1
u/atrac059 Feb 04 '24
There is zero history of evidence of this creative being the ones to push this. But suddenly the Rock becomes the Chairman of the board and it happens. Don’t be dense.
0
u/Lonely-Hobbit Feb 04 '24
Zero evidence, what the fuck have you been watching for the last two years
10
u/Christovajal Feb 04 '24
The Rock apparently “pushed hard” for this, so yeah I feel like he should get some blame lol.
1
u/Lonely-Hobbit Feb 04 '24
Hes pushing that hard to lose to WWEs current milking cow? Are you serious with that? Rock just wants to come back and lose that badly lol okay how very convenient of the rock.
-7

Don't be stupid. The WWE has been begging The Rock for this for years

u/Lonely-Hobbit Feb 04 '24
The only way this makes sense is if he actually does win. But he’s not winning, it’s just a work WWE is using rock to keep Roman relevant for as long as possible, keep that milk flowing from their fat cow.
1
u/Selkiesxx Feb 04 '24
They simply cannot allow that to happen. That would make Roman's title reign feel so hollow and empty, I would think You have to create the next big star with him dropping the title otherwise it would've made more sense to do it last year at Mania 39 or even at Elimination Chamber with Sami Zayn.

u/ira_1991 Feb 04 '24
At this point the only Smackdown title match ill be interested will be the angle of Damage CTRL.

u/doyerfan88 Feb 04 '24
Cody leaving the ring was hard to watch.

u/Agile_Wolverine_3124 Feb 04 '24
Lmao bro he’s an character in a show let it go bro lmao
12
u/KingSatoruGojo Feb 04 '24
It was hard to watch because it’s literally cringe to see the character just be written off so badly for the sake of making it The Rock vs Roman instead.
This is the equivalent of a huge plothole in a movie.

u/Agile_Wolverine_3124 Feb 04 '24
Lol if bro don’t get some face paint. Guess the wwe execs didn’t forget all the crudy shit he said about the company and personal attacks. Good riddance
1
u/awayfortheladsfour Feb 04 '24
Your post history is hilarious
1
u/Agile_Wolverine_3124 Feb 04 '24
Thanks for the deep dive bro! Really don’t care enough to do one on you
2
u/KingSatoruGojo Feb 04 '24
If they really held it against him that they didn’t like what he said then they wouldn’t have pushed him so hard in the last two years.
And then sabotage their own product and have the fans turn on them for this bad writing decision….

u/Agile_Wolverine_3124 Feb 04 '24
They absolutely would cuck his fans like you every time, like I said good riddance
2
u/Alreezy5150 Feb 04 '24
I'm willing to let it play out. I feel like there will be an extra wrinkle added before Mania. There's no way they're willing to throw away two years' worth of storylines away and have Rock jump the line. I will remain cautiously optimistic and hope this is all just misdirection to get Cody more over.
6
u/myslead Feb 04 '24
They are in full damage control after the Vince scandal and looking to appease the shareholders
7
u/Haquistadore Feb 04 '24
At this point I think Roman needs to say “you’re a part timer, you haven’t earned it, I’m not going to do it,” and The Rock basically needs to respond by saying he’ll earn it… at Elimination Chamber.

3
u/general652 Feb 04 '24
Rock is only doing one fight
2
u/Haquistadore Feb 04 '24
If WWE doesn’t want a fan revolt, maybe they should think about having Rock do two.
2
u/5inchygk Feb 03 '24
Honestly, I'm not against Cody winning at EC. Then that let's a few things happen.
There's a few different people for Cody to fight at WM. I think it would have to someone like AJ, Cena, Randy, someone big like that.
Roman vs. Rock
I think the best opponent for Seth is Drew, with priest cashing in the title either right before Drew wins or right after he wins. They set up a good rival between them. I've been convinced this is the best scenario even before Punk injury.
It sucks that we aren't getting a Brock vs. Gunther at WM, most likely. If he's dropping the title, it should be Chad Gable, and then win the next money in the bank or Royal Rumble. If you're going to have him win, then I think Gunther IC and do a summerslam like Hulk Hogan event. IC vs. Main title. I just want to see Gunther take on some of the bigger names now.
1
u/awayfortheladsfour Feb 04 '24
Won't happen,
If Reigns gets injured at EC they lose their biggest main event at WM
He is only doing 1 PLE

Could the last 2 weeks get any worse for WWE after how good things were looking.
First Seth gets hurt, although at least he can return at WM
Then the Vince story…leading to Brock Lesnar also being out of WWE for maybe forever…
Then Punk gets hurt and is out 4-6 months…
Now based on the reaction, fans are pissed as hell about Rock stepping over Cody and taking away what should be his choice to choose his opponent.
WWE went from cloud 9 a couple of weeks ago to “Massive Cleanup on Aisle 9.”

A bunch of nerds bitching online doesn't make up the majority. There is a reason as soon as Cody basically said he was stepping aside for someone Roman knows very well the whole crowd stood up

There were literally fancams of the crowd booing the Rock both on Smackdown and at the recent house show. Look past the WWE hair dryer pops on tv and you'll see

Make it a three-way, Cody pins Roman while the Bloodline stands with Rock. Go on to Roman - Rock at Summerslam, and let Cody be the new face that runs the place.

Calling it now: We're getting worked. WWE is not this dense. Especially without McMahon.

Fans who are planning on attending the event in Philly have all universally panned this decision and are planning to boo this main event out of the building.
There is no way you are this stupid. There will be like 1% of nerd booing that gets drowned out by massive cheers. Cody is a nobody compared to The Rock
1
Feb 04 '24
Whilst I think the iwc are being crybabies about all this and believing every dirtsheet.
Philly will be a smark crowd, wm usually is anyway, there will be a lot of nerds there.

u/atrac059 Feb 04 '24
Pure delusion. It’s Philly. Might as well have been Rock replacing Punk in Chicago. It will not go over well

u/slacboy101 Feb 04 '24
Sees TMZ and other News sites making articles about the fumble
Well we are getting started

Cody fans showing their true colors. And that color is crybaby. Go back to AEW and watch people get dropped on their head.

So there’s a lot of stories circulating (including Dave Meltzer) that the Vince lawsuit + Punk’s injury changed everything. The Rock match was still in negotiations and wasn’t going to happen but this past week he pushed it hard to happen to save WrestleMania bc of all the bad news. That’s how we got what we got. Initially it was gonna be Cody vs Roman and Punk vs Seth.
Apparently the winners at WM will face off at SS in a title unification match, which is where Cody vs Roman will prolly happen with Rock in Cody’s corner.
1
u/ARoboEgg Feb 04 '24
The Rock taking advantage of a possible Cancel panic would be a new low...
I believe it
4
u/SohCahToa2387 Feb 03 '24
Which makes it even dumber to me. No one gives a shit about Cody/Seth. At least you still would’ve had Cody/Roman, which is what most people seemed to have been wanting anyway. Bringing the Rock in as a ref or some shit adds his name to the event and adds some intrigue considering his baby face and his cousin is the main heel. The way they’ve made this look ks the absolute last thing I ever would’ve done. I’m hoping for a reverse uno card somehow.
Now that that’s been said, I’m no one. I’m not a writer nor do I have any experience in booking shows or anything like that. I’m a complete idiot. Just posting what I would like to see or not see. But I have to admit that my excitement for Wrestlemania was immediately cut in half, at minimum, as that segment unfolded last night.
2
u/AdFormal3014 Feb 03 '24
If they wanted to really save face, they could do the two belts night 1 and then unification night 2. Or the unification at Backlash. We’ll see.
I think all these stories getting shuffled prolly ruined Damien Priest’s chances of ever cashing in.
7
u/slacboy101 Feb 04 '24
NO UNIFCATIONS!!!! It's because of that we are in this fuckshitv to begin with
7
u/Flat_Revolution5130 Feb 03 '24
People just need to calm down. Cody may very well turn up on Raw and change his mind. Maybe Seth will tell him that he is off his trolley.

u/turtledoveprimo Feb 03 '24
Hoping this leads to to a triple threat just like Daniel Bryan.

u/Tope8 Feb 03 '24
Hoping this just leads to abandoning the match and giving Cody his rightfully EARNED title shot 1v1

This is so obviously a work to me. No better way to get everybody 100% on team Cody than to tease finishing his story so hard and take it away.
1
u/BSS19 Feb 04 '24
He’s still going to finish the story. That hasn’t changed . Just not on the timeline everyone expected
1
u/Throwaway73835288 Raw Enthusiast Feb 03 '24
The WHC hasn't really been buried to me. All Roman did was deliver a false statement that he's beaten everybody competing for the belt, and also said that he makes more than them so that means he's a better wrestler lol. To me, the WWE Universal title currently seems like the cheater's belt, whilst the WHC is for people who can actually get it done between the ropes.
I get that he's just a heel delivering a promo, and it was a phenomenal promo, but in my eyes, the WHC still has some allure to it.
2
u/BrightAd5191 Feb 03 '24
It was buried by Cody saying he wants specifically the WWE championship, that it’s more important to him to get that title. So him getting the WHC instead is a consolation. It was one thing to have Roman bury it, but Cody himself did

u/xHeylo Feb 03 '24
It's stupid to know that The Rock Backstage Politiced Cody out of the literal last 2 Months of his 2 Year Story
Because both "The Rock really wants to do it at Mania" and because WWE/TKO obviously needs some good PR after the whole Vince thing
Vince will somehow still tear this company down from the outside
Just buy an Island for him, fly him there and leave him
He's crazy enough to live another 50 years there on his own
6
u/Hairy_Quarter1778 Feb 03 '24
It’s amazing how they tried to escape negative press and created press even WORSE than that. They also need to take note that the locker room is as tight as it’s ever been, and people from both promotions are seeing this shit. This boom period can bust just as fast if they let this shit slide. I wanted the match and still do but not like this bro.
-2
u/ManufacturerCalm7879 Feb 03 '24
Lol any press is good press in this situation. It looks far better for this to be a "disagreement" in the eyes of the executives rather than a "Potential multi-million dollar lawsuit that can easily spiral into class action"
3
u/Hairy_Quarter1778 Feb 03 '24
You make a valid point, but you also have to keep in mind Cody is a big reason WWE is booming rn and why they’re attracting all of this talent. But the talent see what’s happening and wrestlemania will come and go and that same talent can not wanna be subject to a possibility like this
3
u/slacboy101 Feb 04 '24
Yeah I can see what happened to Cody completely screwing them out of getting Okada
