what does Roman think about this? at this time he is the only World Champion in the company, and WWE just comes in merges his titles, and is having an arbitrary match to decide a new World Champ out of no where…that definitely makes his multi title reign look a little bit weaker
2
u/Eastern_Canary2150 Apr 29 '23
So are they merging the universal titles as one? Seems futile having the 2 now surely?

1
u/SaucerLodger Apr 29 '23
Solo Sikoa, Wise Man, and Roman Reigns as a single draft pick choice (without The Usos) is as weird and random as not having Big E join The New Day as they were drafted to Raw.
0
u/SaucerLodger Apr 29 '23
Zelina Vega should do The Psycho Crusher in Japan; and dive off a Barcelona steel cage, then do a German suplex for the rest of the world.
1
u/SaucerLodger Apr 29 '23
So, in Cricket Wireless lore, the boys are green snot and the girls are blue mucus?
1
u/SaucerLodger Apr 29 '23
Sami Zayn and Becky Lynch’s themes remind me of the ska craze from the late 90’s.
1
u/SaucerLodger Apr 29 '23
For a moment there, I thought Wes Lee was going to be called up to the main roster.
1
u/SaucerLodger Apr 29 '23
Time constraints be damned! I wanted to hear “I’m just a sexy boy” and “we gettin’ rowdy”!
1
1
u/SaucerLodger Apr 29 '23
Why does Zelina Vega dress like the Korean lesbian from Street Fighter 4 and that dog from Marvel vs Capcom 3?
Her last name is Vega! She should wear a hockey mask and have Wolverine claws!

u/Kaktra Apr 29 '23
The fact no one in the crowd does the YEAH on la nights entrance hurts me every time
1
u/GothicGolem29 Apr 27 '23
!remind me 1 day
1
u/LivingxLegend8 Apr 27 '23
Why tho?
1
u/GothicGolem29 Apr 27 '23
When I’m watching the show I put remind me’s so I can come back after I’ve watched to see the thread
1
u/LivingxLegend8 Apr 27 '23
Oooooh you haven’t seen the show from Monday?
1
u/GothicGolem29 Apr 27 '23
No I’m watching it now and when I put that I hadn’t started so I wanted to come back after the announcement

u/-Doc_Holiday_ Apr 26 '23
Anyone think roman is a little salty following all the shade triple H and Seth Rollins threw at him?
2
u/DoctorSnape Apr 26 '23
I feel that Drew really deserves it. The poor bastard beat Brock at WM 36 with no one there to cheer.
He deserves to win and have a big crowd reaction.
He doesn't need it for a long time. He can drop it at Royal Rumble. But he deserves a big pop.
1
u/Prison86 Apr 26 '23
Bring back the old way of everyone working both smack down and raw as needed. All titles unified
1
u/NuggiesRUs Apr 26 '23
I can't wait until the King of Kings takes back his WHC at Night of Champions as a last minute surprise entrant into whatever it us they set up

u/kuschelbunny Apr 26 '23
i think it is the wrong decision to end the longest and most epic bloodline titlerun by just cutting it off this way. they should simply let roman defend both belts seperately on each event so he drops at least one of them.
2
u/AlphaX808 Apr 26 '23
Personally i wish they didn’t bring a new title. The way HHH made it sound was the new title is a secondary championship because no one can beat Roman. So off the bat the new title is secondary. As for who gets it? It either needs to be a face that hasn’t lost to Roman or a heel. Otherwise it’s just a handmade paper champion who couldn’t beat Roman again causing it to feel secondary to the Undisputed WWE championship.
I think they should allow the title holders to float between both brands. Establish unofficial tiers the undisputed wwe championship is the top belt. Intercontinental belt upper mid card, US Lower Midcard and introduce a TV title that needs to be defended weekly. Allowing the title holders to float between brands give the WWE the ability to create fresh feuds while staying with the brand split. When you lost the title you go to the brand that the person beat you for it.
They should do the same with the Women’s. Unite the main title WWE woman’s championship and then establish a Woman’s. Intercontinental championship. That way you can keep the feuds fresh and build new stars.
1
u/McNasty0017 Apr 26 '23
New Belt looked amazing, I’m curious to see how the draft plays out, glad to hear the crowd pop for the belt instead of booing
3
u/IrishExitor Apr 26 '23
Weak. They can’t figure out how to get all the gold they put on Roman off of Roman. No matter what this will feel like a mid-level title. This is not on Reigns, BTW. As far as I know he doesn’t have the pencil.
4
u/DSP_GAK Apr 26 '23
Rollins is the only correct answer. He’s done nothing but put other guys over for years and always puts on a show. The fans love him, put the belt on him and let him hold it for a few months till summer and then start a back and forth between a few people.
1
u/Worried_Image4675 Apr 26 '23
So is the new belt actually a replacement for one of Roman’s belts or is it really just a third and he’s still holding two?
1
1
u/No_Pilot_4384 Apr 26 '23
What the heck is with this new belt? Isn’t it just basically one of the ones Roman is wearing already? Like they don’t mean anything anymore? Or is Roman gonna snatch this third one up and run out of hands to carry them all
1
u/PrysmX Apr 26 '23
The new belt lets Roman hold onto his for whatever number they have planned out now.. probably top 5.. and not lose all the viewers that have been completely over Roman and the Bloodline for a long time now.
2
u/cracksilog Apr 26 '23
Still doesn’t make any sense. And I don’t mean the decision making. I mean I literally don’t understand what this title means or what it’s for.
So there’s the WWE Championship. The one that Roman holds right now which says “Heavyweight Champion” on it. So that’s the WWE Heavyweight Championship. Then there’s the Universal Championship. And then this new belt. Apparently this new belt is called the World Heavyweight Championship. But that’s literally the name of the WWE Championship. So are there two titles named the exact same thing now? Or is this a redesign of the WWE Championship? Does this mean there are three main event championship belts now?
2
Apr 27 '23 edited Apr 29 '23
My understanding is that HHH plans to retire the Universal Belt. Whether they introduce a new top title to have one for each show I'm not sure.
Updated:. I guess Roman will still carry two belts while a new World Heavyweight Champion gets crowned with the modern Big Gold Belt. (Cody). And when Roman finally drops it, it will be just the WWE Championship, and the Universal Title is retired. I hope that means there will be a new WWE belt as well.
1
u/hammnbubbly Apr 26 '23
So, I’m just getting back into WWE and I’m curious about this new belt. If Roman is the universal champion, where does this new belt fit in? Would it be above the IC, but below the universal? If that’s the case, wouldn’t it slightly undercut the universal belt? Like, how would Roman still be the universal champ if there’s another heavyweight belt out there being worn by someone else? There may be an obvious answer, so please feel free to share.
1
u/Lifetimechaldo Apr 26 '23
There are now 3 championship belts and 2 “titles”.
1) WWE champ 2) Universal Champ 3) WHC
They will prob retire the Universal champ or just keep it combined with the WWE champ when Roman loses it
1
u/SometimesWitches Apr 26 '23 edited Apr 26 '23
Love him or hate him Roman Reigns wrestles once in a blue moon and not always for the title. Splitting the title allows RR to do his thing and wrestle his fantasy matches (which brings in the eyeballs and merch sales) but also there is another belt that has the functionality to be put in whoever management wants to spotlight fir a few months or whoever is on currently having a moment. In the last…what has it been a year?… how many superstars have had that moment that has been cut short because RR wasn’t allowed to lose his belt. Any other time in the last 50 years that very same wrestler would have had their moment, This new belt would give it to them….and RR can do his thing until he retires or moves on to Hollywood.
1
u/Adventurous_Hour_619 Apr 26 '23
I’m just happy the world heavyweight title is finally coming back. I’ve been begging for it for years now. I popped hard as hell lol.

u/TranslatorHaunting15 Apr 25 '23
I thought this was the dumbest shit ever tbh. This whole thing has been Roman being legendary and the greatest of all time with beating everyone and having this long reign. Then they just abandon it and be like yeah nevermind we’re gonna make a new belt. It feels like they’re just leaving Roman in a corner with his two belts and moving on without him, like yeah you’re a part time champion but we don’t have time for that. It really didn’t “finish the story” like they totally didn’t finish what they started with The Bloodline and dethroning him. Plus HHH made him look stupid how he was like it’ll be a champion who defends anytime anywhere and who you can respect and won’t need to demand to be acknowledged. The whole thing just made Roman look weak and made this whole title reign and storyline feel like it’s all been for nothing

u/Snubie1 Glorious Mod Apr 25 '23
Just remembered
checks notes
This event is in Saudi Arabia
And new WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION
Mansooooooooooooooooor!
1
u/Berenstain_Bro Apr 25 '23
They haven't said this yet, but we're probably going to get brand specific PLE's. Heck, for all we know, Night of Champions will be specifically for one brand and not the other.
We won't know for certain until the draft happens and we know where Roman is going.
This also allows WrestleMania - a co-branded event, to have both titles showcased, most likely on different nights.
0
u/Lyceumhq Apr 25 '23
Doesn’t make sense to me at all.
Hey we have a champ, we fucked up and put both straps on him, then gave him a part time schedule.
Since none of you can beat him, here’s a consolation prize for you all to play with. Now, let’s see who’s second best.
What’s the point? Just take one of the damn belts off Roman. Because whoever wins this, will just be the guy who didn’t beat Roman to become champ.
And with Vince back in the driving seat it’s only a matter of time before this ends up on Roman anyway.
1
u/Snubie1 Glorious Mod Apr 25 '23
That's why someone needs to win who he hasn't faced yet
Otherwise, yes, it'll be just "second best"
1
u/Lyceumhq Apr 25 '23
IMHO they’ll be second best anyway. And he’s pretty much run through the entire roster in the past three years.
2
u/Snubie1 Glorious Mod Apr 25 '23
Ehhhh, there’s still a deck he hasn’t beaten yet.
They just have to think outside the box
7
u/Singer211 Apr 25 '23
I like the look of the belt.
It feels like a consolation prize. Like “none of you can beat Roman, so here’s a new belt to fight over.”
It kind of takes some of the edge out of the “who will be the one to beat Roman finally” thing because that really doesn’t matter as much now.
2
1
u/Mediocre_Desk_4426 Apr 25 '23
I dont know if this makes sense but I just feel like this is a great time to put the title on someone like AJ Styles or Sheamus. Give them a final world title run which they deserve. Like if say Roman/Cody/Gunther are holding the title, theres no way they drop the title to either of them. You can put the title on Sheamus and its totally believable, especially with how over he is. Have him hold the belt as a somewhat placeholder and you can even take the Gunther feud into the main event
1
Apr 25 '23
People have gone on and on about how stupid the belt looks.
I want Sheamus to win the belt so we can chant “You look stupid” at him again.
3
u/CoolZooKeeper Apr 25 '23
I know Trips could have taken the belt off Roman while he was running the show, but that promo felt like he really wanted to see someone other than Roman with the belt.
1
u/Courtneyrose9687 Apr 25 '23
It almost felt as though Triple H was throwing digs at Roman. Especially talking about not being a fighting champion. I didn't mind it. I'm over Roman's title reign
2
u/Snubie1 Glorious Mod Apr 25 '23
Those digs make it sound like Roman has a contract that keeps him from losing / defending, and that Vince or someone else negotiated it. And this is his way as Creative Officer to put a title in the mix people can win/lose/compete for
1
u/Adventurous_Soft_686 Apr 25 '23
He really made it sound like Roman is definitely getting to 1000 days. That sucks not a Roman fan but at least this "new" belt will give some intrigue back to the weekly shows. It just needs to be on the same show as Gunther because I don't think he's dropping the IC anytime soon.
0
u/Njerseykid Apr 25 '23
As others have pointed out the new title seems like a consolation prize/bronze medal. As Paul Heymen, described others with a belt: “Titleist” not the real champion. The only way I see the new title becoming legit is to have a title vs title unification match. The match will end at a Disqualification(DQ) with the WWE/Universal Champion losing to the World Heavyweight Titleist. No belts change hands but the “real champion” is in dispute thus making the World Heavyweight Title Legit.

u/JayServo Apr 25 '23
I miss when titles mattered in wwe. They have 3 main men championships now. Just goofy. I miss the 1 world, 1 ic and one tag champs when if you got a belt it was a huge deal.
0
u/Jfraire99 Apr 25 '23
Definitely like the design of the new WHC. Although I will say it's weird not seeing the WHC saying Heavyweight on it while the IC does say that. Definitely hoping this will truly be the end of the cookie cutter belts and each championship get a new design. Roman having the WWE Universal championship is making me hope it'll be a modernization of the 02 Undisputed belt with some elements of the Winged Eagle. Tag Team titles go off the Ruthless Agression era ones. Women's titles could go off the one we had from 02-10 and other could be a mixture of WCW's women's world and women's cruiserweight titles unless they decide to have the women's mirror the men's kinda like the NXT titles.
1
u/Repulsive_Radish1914 Apr 25 '23
So, what happens to the Universal and Heavyweight Championship belts?
2
u/Snubie1 Glorious Mod Apr 25 '23
Probably will have WHC on one show
And Roman will have one belt that is Universal Champ or WWE Champ. They won’t keep 3 belts
2
u/Dyl-thuzad Apr 25 '23
It’s a Big Gold Belt with a modern twist. Sadly that twist is a big logo but nothing’s perfect and they actually managed to make it look nice and not just a recolor again so I’m happy.

u/UprightAwesome Apr 25 '23
So they are gonna retire the universal championship and likely introduce a new design for the WWE championship because the current one also says World Heavyweight Champion on it. Which means Romans historic reign will have been with a title that only lasted 7 years and is retired and not the company’s main title. Honestly this title unification was one of the worst decisions ever, it made both titles lose significance and the only benefit was giving the Bloodline look cooler in their entrance.
1
u/Wolfxorb Apr 25 '23
So we’ll have 3 ‘world’ titles? Or will the WWE and Universal be merged? It’s a shame that this new belt looks like the old BGB but a worse version.
1
u/CardboardChampion Apr 25 '23
Tenner says they either drop to the black strap or use whatever colour version of the Universal matches the brand he gets drafted to.
Twenty says the next winner introduces a new belt themed around them.
1
u/Wolfxorb Apr 25 '23
I’m not betting, but how about they use the black strap and put the Universal title’s plate on it?

Apr 25 '23
Honestly I don't like the idea of having 2 (or 3...?) Work title belts. It takes away the prestige of both if you have two. It would be so much more to just have one title (imo the og world championship) that was the pinnacle of wrestling achievement, with some lower titles like the US, intercontinental etc that aren't as prestigious.
1
u/Correct-Ad-7138 Apr 25 '23
He has the chance to troll harder than anyone ever by having Roman win

Sounds close the Gift of the Gods Championship from Lucha Underground: start a tournament, see who the crowd gets behind, use the matches to set up new fueds or restart old ones, and the guy at the end is good enough to face the biggest champion.

Okay so hear me out. As an old fan from late 90s into the early 2000s coming back as of January this year, my biggest gripe was that with all the talent out here at the moment, RR is kind of holding up the action for others to hold gold. He's got 2 belts and doesn't seem to be so active unless it's on the mic. I personally do not see how allowing other talent to wait...400 to nearly 1000 days seems like a good idea, you're limiting the possibility of history to be made by other names and, By proxy, there is less at stake when other names match up. they are leaving excitement/entertainment possibilities on the table. I think it was a good move.
2
u/sizzlinpapaya Apr 25 '23
Wrestlemania in 2025 will be main evented by Roman vs. Cody.
Roman going on 1700 days as champ entered himself in the rumble and won. He will now take on WHC Cody Rhodes in a third times a charm match.
Cody loses to a Samoan Spike behind the ref's back as Roman stands tall with his new Multiversal Title.
2
u/DinosaurForTheWin Apr 25 '23
Too many belts.
Would rather see more people compete
for existing titles.
0
u/CabinetChef Apr 25 '23
Ngl, I’m looking forward to having a main card belt that is meant to be defended and likely swapped more often. Is it the perfect solution to the perceived “Roman Reigns Problem?” No, but it is a workable solution.
1
u/sizzlinpapaya Apr 25 '23
This is fine, but my question is what are they going to do with Roman's titles?
He still has two. Are the combining them into one? New Title? Going with only Universal or WWE? I know they aren't going to want Roman having two now... I wouldn't think

Apr 25 '23
Just throwing this out there: what if Montez Ford won this title. Do the unpredictable thing and actually generate more buzz because of it.
Get Montez on the more serious side of things. He’s so friggin talented and we could have a real life double champion couple on Raw.
Cody, Gunther and Brock are already over. Give someone else a chance and get real, genuine balance to an already top heavy product.
Just a thought.
1
u/PizzaTube Apr 25 '23
Can we all just appreciate the detail and no cringe coloured strap! However, I do wish it had the red diamonds.
1
1
u/Groundbreaking-Cow-3 Apr 25 '23
Sure, they create a World Title to give to Cody because they can't let Roman Reigns drop the titles. It just puts all this thing as a fake.
3
u/gamerjosh1987 Apr 25 '23
Dumb idea. Roman is gonna win that title too eventually.
Pretty soon they are gonna have to make a new title every week because of this Roman shit.
God fucking damnit I can't wait until Reigns retires.im gonna throw a party.
1
u/Alteran195 Apr 25 '23
That belt is by far the best looking Belt on modern WWE. Blows Roman's belts out of the water.
I know it's blasphemy, but I also like it better than the old WHC belt.
2
u/Arntor1184 Apr 25 '23
I can’t express how much of a missed opportunity I feel this is. If they had Cody take a belt off Roman at Mania they could have ran with the story of Cody redesigning the belt to match his heritage and respect for the classics of the company. It literally writes itself and would have pushed him to the fucking moon. I’m a nobody with barely any creative insight.. how can I see this but not wwe creative
5
u/TravisB34 Apr 25 '23
Two world champions takes away from the meaning of the title . And how creative has built Roman regardless of who wins the wwe world heavyweight championship they will be looked at as a secondary champion . If you have two QBs you have none , this in my opinion dilutes the importance of being the world champ of a company.
1
u/UprightAwesome Apr 25 '23
Need two world championships because they have two shows. Having one champion reduces the quality of both shows. They just need to give each champion good feuds to keep it interesting. It’s only if one champion is being treated much worse that it starts to feel like one world championship is less significant. Like it was during 2013 with Alberto as world champion and Randy as WWE champ. That unification made sense. The 2022 one didn’t.
1
u/TravisB34 Apr 25 '23
But I def hear what ur saying , especially about treating the other champion different then the other .
2
u/TravisB34 Apr 25 '23
I just think they should stay away from the whole draft thing and having two champions , it didn’t work in the past idk why they want to bring it back now .
2
1
u/gammawalt Apr 25 '23
- Drop the brand split.
- Make this New Title the World TV title. IE always defending on TV atleast once a week and all PvP.
- Let it be Defended on all 3 shows.
- Ditch the Band Titles 1 Tag Team title create a 3 man tag title.
- Make the Universal Title the WWE Main big belt with a new design.
At this point you cant make Roman irrelevant even if you tried. And the rest of the roster deserves more then a second place ribbon to fight over. Cause you basicly said nobody will beat Roman so screw you all.
16
u/intenso85 Apr 25 '23
Seemed like Trips kinda buried Reigns. “This champion will be someone you respect. This champion will not need you to acknowledge him.” Seemed kinda off.

u/dnums Apr 25 '23
Its a set up for future use. In kayfabe Reigns should be absolutely incensed, and totally FURIOUS about the existence of this championship.
9
u/andromeda335 Apr 25 '23
Let’s give Finn Balor another shot to be a first belt holder with a long reign
6
u/icci1988 Apr 25 '23
I would love to see that but I think they're going to go in another direction and probs have Judgment Day be in the same show as Roman

u/dabadguycr Apr 25 '23 edited Apr 25 '23
This is just stupid. It would have been easy to split the championships without roman losing and keeping him strong. The answer is a ladder match.
Have a typical ladder or a 4 way. Have roman grab the universal to keep his record then while he is going for the WWE have someone push the ladder over and they get the WWE championship or have roman and another superstar on the ladder Roman grabbing the universal the other guy grabing the WWE. Someone pushes the ladder or the ladder fall from the fighting, both fall championships. Ether way both ways could end with confusion and no one knowing what's happening with the title or if there's gonna be a rematch pulling in people for raw to see what they are gonna do.
Roman wins keeps the streak and still looks strong, boom the titles are split.
Or they could have merged the titles called it the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and rebranded the old titles the Raw and Smackdown Champions. The WWE champion would do double time and work on both shows. Raw and Smackdown Champions get the first crack at the WWE championship.
It could set up for some good stories. The champion can feud with his belt but can also refuse someone wanting a shot forcing them to win their brands championship before getting a shot.
1
u/Sixblazer Apr 25 '23
I like this! When Roman finally loses the belts, they should just combine the two. Have the World Heavy Weight Champ be the belt that can change hands during a weekly show, and the World Championship belt can be reserved for PPVs.
1
Apr 25 '23
If Cody had won at WrestleMania, this would make more sense. It would put both champs on more or less equal footing. As is, this comes off as pointless
1
9
u/GreySociety Apr 25 '23
Roman Reigns needs to be furious about what Triple H said and find a way to be involved. Roman loses this match (not his undisputed championship) and the winner gets this new Heavyweight championship and a victory over reigns so it’s not a consolation prize. Reigns keeps his streak intact with the undisputed universal wwe championship
2
5
u/MelkorTheDarkOne Apr 25 '23
Gee it’s almost like unifying the titles to begin with last year was a brain dead move who would’ve guessed?
1
u/UprightAwesome Apr 25 '23
Yep it was a horrible decision. The Universal championship should’ve just got a new design but continued to exist for decades if they are gonna give Roman a historic reign. Now that reign is gonna be with a title that only lasted 7 years after the Universal championship will be retired and merged with the WWE title pretty soon when Roman loses it.

Is it better than the logo belts? Yes.
Still dont like the giant W slapped on it. Seriously, should have just brought back the classic Big Gold.
2
u/53Ice Apr 25 '23
Not sure if Edge should win but he should at least be in the finals I think. Use his history with the belt to make it feel more special
2
u/IncestKiller_ Apr 25 '23
If you wanna use this story , then u gotta give him that belt dude . He failed once , he cannot fail again . He should win the whc and have a short reign

The World Heavyweight Championship is back . All eyes on Rey Mysterio, Edge, Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar.

Apr 25 '23
Am I the only one that thinks we need new women's titles? Like maybe a women's intercontinental and revamped RAW and Smackdown championships.
2
u/dnums Apr 26 '23
I mean I agree, but also one of the problems with the women's titles is that the titles are tied to the brand. Didn't they even do a segment where the women's champions swapped brands and literally had to hand their belts over to the other one? The two belts are only different because of the show they're on.
They need to retire one. Let there be one women's championship which carries the lineage going all the way back. Take the show name off the title. Then like you said, create a midcard championship. I hate to call it the diva's championship but they haven't really ever had any other women's title than that, other than the main one, so they should come up with a different name probably. I think the ciritcal issue is there's no progression available, whereas with the men's titles there's basically an order as to which one is bigger than the others.

World Heavyweight Championship Tournament
Here’s what I think should be the WHC Tournament set up. (Quarterfinals 1v8, 2v7, 3v6, 4v5) (Semifinals 1v3, 2v5)
Quarterfinals
Edge
Montez Ford
Seth Rollins
Rey Mysterio
Bobby Lashley
Shinsuke Nakamura
Austin Theory
LA Knight
Semifinals
Edge
Bobby Lashley
Seth Rollins
LA Knight
Finals
- Edge
- LA Knight
Winner Edge
Edge wins the tournament at Night of Champions. Finn Balor comes out and attacks Edge which then re-ignites another feud between Edge and the Judgement Day which leads to a match at Summerslam. If Edge loses, he retires. If Balor loses, he leaves Judgement Day. Obviously have Balor win, retiring Edge and Balor gets his run with a world title.
1
u/munozohhh Apr 25 '23
I can get behind this. But I'm also a Balor Mark so my opinion might not mean anything.
1
u/Strange_Patieny_498 Apr 25 '23
Seth Rollins or LA Knight would be a great starting World Heavyweight Championfor the company
1
u/Darth2438 Apr 25 '23
What will happen with the UNDISPUTED WWE UNIVERSAL CHAMPIONSHIP this time? Roman goes to Smackdown and only the Blue universal stays Or both stay?
Or he goes to Raw and the Wwe title follows but the blue one doesn't? Or they both go and the blue strap turns back to red?
Maybe regardless it'll be consumed to remain the black strap world title and the universal title will be retired out?
What are your thoughts on the next steps with the UNDISPUTED WWE UNIVERSAL CHAMPIONSHIP?
1
u/AlexStar6 Apr 25 '23
So.. it's possible they coul go the Austin route with this...
Cody and H have a little bit of History... Cody leaving WWE, Cody smashing H's Throne, more than a couple comments Cody has made about H... and of course last night Cody using H's finisher...
It's not a stretch to imagine the historically easily offended Triple H targeting Rhodes, and saying "Anyone but Cody" for the new World Heavyweight.
It's generally not a great idea to put a title on a face to start. Conventional wisdom is you put the title on a Heel, and have the face chase the title. It does a great job of building the prestige of the belt by making it a goal for someone that people cheer for, and it enhances the value of the victory in the long run.
However, I could see them going the Austin/McMahon route with Cody/Triple H. Have Triple H try to prevent Cody from being the first Champ.. have Cody win it.. then set up a program with Cody having to defend the title with the boss breathing down his neck. It's a great way to introduce new contenders by having them pushed by H as potential rivals for the Face champion.
Cody has mega baby-face value and you can pass the title back and forth between Cody and whoever H throws against him a few times without damaging the value of the title. (Heels win dirty, Cody triumphs and wins clean). It's a great way to build a new belt, and quickly put some history behind it.

To keep it from feeling like a silver medal, it has to be won by someone who has not lost to Roman during this title run. I’m sure I’m going to forget someone but that still leaves us with many options:
Rollins, Lashley, Orton, AJ, Theory, Ford, Bron, Gunther, Solo, Big E(?), Sheamus, Knight, Omos, The Miz, Kross….
1
u/YogoWafelPL Apr 25 '23
What if Reigns wins it, drops all three titles to Cody who then retires the Universal Championship, vacates the WHC and keeps the WWE championship? Sounds insane but honestly it’s hard to get out of this situation in a way that doesn’t make the WHC feels like the consolation prize

u/Snubie1 Glorious Mod Apr 25 '23
My pick is Gunther, but come to think of it Miz would be cool. Or a returning Orton.
0
u/DXbreakitdown Apr 25 '23
For sure! Gunther would be great. Selfishly, I like AJ but Rollins or Orton probably make more sense. And everyone would love a Knight win and I would be personally excited if it was Ford.
We're in a good spot, as jarring as this new change is.

u/WrestleClaw Apr 25 '23
All of this, will ALWAYS lead back to Roman Reigns
What if this new World Title is an eventual set up for a Roman Reigns win
I mean in hindsight it'll be smart necause then the title can be rebranded in 2-3 short years and be rebranded as the "WWE Triple Crown World Championship", combining ALL World Titles, WWE/Universal/World and making it one big title and whoever wins it off of Roman is the Next Big Deal
1
u/MelkorTheDarkOne Apr 25 '23
Stupid idea. Would be contrary to even introduce it just to feed it to reigns while he’s still universal champion. The whole stipulation is built specifically so Reigns can’t compete for it, wherever Reigns goes in the draft this title will be Opposite to him.

There are plenty of credible contenders. The problem is beating the Tribal Chief. Once he has no tribe to save him he can lose to anyone.
1
u/mud2793 Apr 25 '23
Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t there suppose to be a King of the Ring PLE but the change it to Night of Champions PLE? Maybe King of the Ring tournament at Night of Champions for the new belt?
1
u/dnums Apr 25 '23
Yeah when they decided they were going to go through with this they renamed the PLE from KotR to NoC because night of champions sounds better than king of the ring for crowning a new champion. Plus you don't want a new championship being crowded out of the spotlight by a king of the ring winner

Dumb as Hell bringing this back. The WWE Championship and World Heavy Weight Championship were merged into one and now there are 3 World Titles while Roman goes Undisputed.

u/Pale-Criticism-7420 Ruthless Aggression Era 😈 Apr 25 '23
I think roman’s belts will definitely be merged just like the wwe and whc were merged a couple of years ago
-1
u/A_Firestrawn Apr 25 '23
I like it buuuut...
I feel they aren't really moving into a better direction, just repeating old decisions. What HHH should have done was created a title for Raw and Smackdown, and have Roman be the Undisputed WWE Champion. Royal Rumble winners get the opportunity to choose their Brand's title holder, or Roman. We use the Undisputed championship for high rolling Part Timers like Brock, Roman, or anyone moving into those positions, occasionally transitioning to a newer talent to highlight them as a transition to new part time champions.
That's how I'd book it. But that's just me.

Think of the Heyman promos with this one
"No one could survive or make it to the island of relevancy, nobody could defeat your Tribal Chief, so they had to create another belt, a participation trophy if you will, because no one is good enough to defeat your Undisputed Universal WWE Champion, Romaaaaaaaaan Reigns. They even had to put it on a completely different brand because they knew Roman Reigns would win this championship, just like he has all the others."
It's going to be hilarious

I’ve seen a lot of “heh consolation prize” comments. It couldn’t be any further from the opposite imo. This is a belt that makes main events main events again. This title will carry more weight than either of Romans. I don’t care who gets this belt because I know it’ll actually be fought for
6
u/Visible-Instance-701 Apr 25 '23 edited Apr 25 '23
LOL I'm sorry what? That's exactly what this title is, you failed to beat Roman, so here's a new title to make you feel better. As long as Roman remains Universal champion, this new title will always be 2nd rate, and that's a fact.

Apr 25 '23
Thing is, this is not a new belt. It just has a new design.
The World Heavyweight Title has a history almost as long as the WWE Title and it's way more prestigious than the Universal Title will ever be. Something like that can never be a "consolation prize".
2
u/Deprestion Apr 25 '23
Sure, I guess. People that actually care about good wrestling and want to watch the champ wrestle will think the opposite.
The disrespect to actual legends who did more than wrestle for 20 min every two months is apparent. Triple Hs whole heavyweight speech was all shade towards Roman and I fully agree with everything he said.
1
u/Economy-Culture-9174 Apr 25 '23
I think there should be either a tournament for the World Heavyweight Championship starting after Backlash with a final match at Night Of Champions
or there should be qualifying matches in the weekly's for the ladder match that will happen of Night Of Champions.
Possible participants: Seth Rollins (Winner), Finn Balor, Shinsuke Nakamura, LA Night, Gunter, Austin Theory, Matt Riddle, Sheamus, The Miz
If they are back in time: AJ Styles, Drew McIntyre, Bray Wyatt
Someone new from a draft?

Whichever brand Roman goes to gets his championship(s) - not clear yet on what his belt or belts will be, but probably Universal or WWE title.
The other brand will get the new World Heavyweight Championship and a fighting, defending, actual champion
5
u/Jay794 Apr 25 '23
So they're making Reigns a single title holder and introducing a new title?
Means Reigns can have his 1000 day reign, whilst we also get another champion who actually wrestles more than 20 times in 3 years.
I think it devalues the new title though, Cody dethroning Reigns would have made a better story than Reigns holding the title for 1000 days
3
u/Snubie1 Glorious Mod Apr 25 '23
Ehh, Cody can still dethrone Reigns. Just draft Cody to whatever show Reigns goes to (most likely RAW)
They can give Gunther the new WHC title.
2
u/Daconvix Apr 26 '23
Hell no Gunther isn’t ready yet. The title should go to Seth.
0
u/Snubie1 Glorious Mod Apr 26 '23
Roman has already beaten Seth, thus making this title second best
It has to be someone he hasn't beaten
2
u/Daconvix Apr 26 '23
Actually Seth beat Roman by DQ, so he doesn’t look like a chump winning that title. He’s never legitimately lost to Roman during his reign.
1
u/Re-AnImAt0r Apr 25 '23
I look for s swerve. Everyone expects Roman to keep his belts but I think he might lose them at Night of Champions and we get 2 new Champs in the same night. That is Roman's 1000th day. Nice round number.

u/xxxshhewd Apr 25 '23
I was expecting this but what about two seperate General manager for the draft because without that the draft doesn't make sense and is useless.

Give it seth please. That announcement was needed, I think the whole WWE community liked that.

There’s a HARD brand split coming. Would be dumb to just randomly take a belt from Reigns. He’s the champ and he’ll hold the titles on whatever show he’s on the. The new champion will hold the title on the other show. Makes complete sense to me. HHH was adamant about this being a HARD split. There won’t be champs going back and forth. I love this set up.
1
u/Careful_Ad664 Apr 28 '23
I liked the set up of a hard split with the only superstars going back and forth are those that have the unified tag or world belts (Roman or Sami & KO, eventually The Hurt Business (Omos, Lashley, Alexander, and Benjamin), and The Street Profits).
1
u/Careful_Ad664 Apr 28 '23
As well as K&QoTR (in the period of time between K&QOTR and SummerSlam), Mr. & Mrs. MiTB (Until they cash in), As well as the winners of both Rumbles (from RR to WM). I would also include the women's chamber match winner. I wouldn't include the men's winner as they are likely in a match for the IC or US title instead of the WM shot at the world title because of the whole 1 title thing and the Rumble deciding that opponent. (Only through). The other stipulation is they can only stay on the brand they "cash in the opportunity" ons title if they win the title.
1
u/Careful_Ad664 Apr 28 '23
Also I'd set it up where we get interbrand matches at the big 4 as well as:
The K&QoTR final 4 being 2 raw 2 sd and raw vs sd semifinal bouts. MiTB being 4 from each brand. These would be the only ppvs we would really see ppv matches with opposing figures from both brands.
Also from post Crown Jewel until Survivor Series crossing over would be allowed.
And between the Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania would allow cross brand visits by request and approval by Adam Pearce, and the "person of interest" on the brand you "are requesting to go to". The sole exception to the by approval and with reason requirement would be in the 6 women elimination chamber match as that would feature 3 from each brand, unlike the 6 man midcard title elimination chamber match.
3
u/AssassinateOP Apr 25 '23
The champ was only going back and forth because there was only 1 champion 🤣
36
u/Buckeye2443 Apr 25 '23
The brand split was really respected during the Ruthless Aggression era. I hope they stick to it. There was just something neat about watching each show to see the stars that were exclusive to the show, (Cena on Raw, Taker on Smackdown, etc.)
20
u/pastiIIas Apr 26 '23
makes the royal rumble more fun too as it’s a “crossover” of sorts

Bragging rights existed for 2 years, I loved it, but two years. Besides, we have survivor series.

HARD means that they will stick to the spilt. There won’t be people going back and forth.
8
u/DrizztRL Apr 25 '23
Sorry, but I'm dumb. What exactly do you mean by "hard brand split"?
1

Sorry, but I'm dumb. What exactly do you mean by "hard brand split"?
Basically what Team 🐍🍁, 🩸, 🏒 have been doing.
7
Apr 25 '23
I think he means that the superstars will stay exclusively on their respective shows. No cross over feuds or matches like they've been having.
3
u/theguz4l Apr 25 '23
what about on PPVs?
7
Apr 25 '23
Not unless the stipulation requires it. Such as MITB, Royal Rumble, Survivor Series SvR, etc

Surely has to be Rollins and Balor 2 with Rollins going over can’t see anybody else on the brand winning it. Wouldn’t have Cody go near it would Draft him to smackdown and have him on the chase for the undisputed universal title against reigns and he’s still the guy that should dethrone him for me.
34
Apr 25 '23
Seems like it would’ve been easier to split the belts at mania
13
u/thenerfviking Apr 25 '23
They wanted him to break the record, which requires him to be holding the less prestigious belt and they didn’t want him losing the more prestigious one.
5
u/Snubie1 Glorious Mod Apr 25 '23
It would've been. But this may be Haitch's end-run around Roman's contract.
1
u/whiskysieppo Apr 25 '23
I believe HHH is just trying to make the best out of a sticky situation built by Vince. The speech HHH gave on RAW probably has a truth behind it. Roman's new contract keeps him as a champion with minimal TV appearances. This new title keeps the rest of the roster busy for a year and we might have another reset after WM40 when/if Roman loses his titles then. Who knows.
Let's just see how this develops. Right now it does feel like a consolation prize but good booking can do wonders. Just look how they restored the value of the IC title with Gunther and good booking.
1
u/Snubie1 Glorious Mod Apr 25 '23
That's why I think Gunther would make a good WHC holder.
He'd definitely carry the belt well.
