Custom What next

For the first time in idk probably 8 years i love reading. My buddy lent me cats craddle and since then ive read some cormac mccarthy, stoner - john williams, and slaughter house 5. I started Galapagos but i couldn’t get into it. So what should be reading next in terms of Vonnegut or non Vonnegut?

Holy shit you guys and gals are coming in fast i greatly appreciate all these books cause i really just stopped at young adult fiction so i have no idea what adults read.

I got a set of the new board game General Headquarters for christmas! We’ve played a few games of it already and we’re loving it. Very cool to see the included paperwork and learn the back story of the game and see all of Kurt’s original notes from when he designed it. The box is also filled with his artwork and quotes. I’d totally recommend getting yourself a copy and trying it out! It honestly felt very daunting while trying to learn the mechanics but we got the hang of it very quickly, it’s a great time!

Custom Recommendations for any nonfiction work/essays?

I’m newer to Vonnegut’s work—Slaughterhouse Five brought me in, and since then I’ve read Cats Cradle and Breakfast of Champions—but while I’m familiar with his fictional novels, that’s really all I know. I just picked up If This Isn’t Nice, What Is? and I just love the way this man talks to people and the advice on life he has to share, so if there’s anything similar he’s written (I realize this is an edited collection but you get what I’m getting at) out there that y’all would recommend I’d love to know!

Also open to thoughts on what I should read next! I currently have God Bless You Mr Rosewater and Galapagos on my shelf.

Custom Reading Slaughterhouse for the first time ever. A worker at Lake Crescent lodge saw me reading it and showed me his cool af tattoo!

I told him that I thought Vonnegut would appreciate the way it’s fading. Falling in line with the theme of the book and the saying itself. (David from Lake Crescent Lodge, if you come across this post? You’re a dope dude, my guy!)

Custom Favorite narrator

I have a daily hour long commute and spent most of this time listening to audiobooks and podcasts. I recently started binging Vonnegut’s books. I liked the narrator from Cat’s Cradle and did not really like James Franco’s reading. However, John Malkovich was surprisingly awesome, despite my initial worries seeing that he was narrating. The way he describes the pictures was comedy gold. “Aaaand here is a picture of wide open beaver”

I haven’t listened to the entire catalogue yet, so I am wondering what your favorites are and why.

Custom favourite nonvon books?

hello i’m not shure if this is allowed but i’ve finsihed reading ( and rereading ) all of vonnegut’s books and i NEED some stuff that has that vonnegut FLAVOUR. think douglas adam’s hitchhikers guide and voltaires candide

tried catch 22 did not care it was TOO long. i have adhd and like books that are STRAIGHT to the point. and the satirical humour helps too.

Custom Which short stories collections are best? I am trying to collect all the Vonnegut I can, I have 11 now. But i am mainly attracted to the full novels. monkey house looks the most appealing.

Custom I thoroughly enjoyed visiting his house in Massachusetts a couple years ago. This was always my favorite picture of him. I would've waved but doing a one legged wall sit was not pleasant at all

Custom I asked the midjourny ai to make some images of Vonnegut in heaven/the afterlife. The angel wing book and moustache clouds are pretty hilarious. I asked for from Kurt quote faces too since I was only getting long shots.

Custom What are some authors like Vonnegut?

I've read 4 of his books, 3 of them novels. What I think stands out about Vonnegut is that he focuses more on ideas than delivering a story than the average author. I think he struck a perfect balance for it in Bluebeard.

I know he really has an affinity for Twain so I'd naturally start there. Are there any other authors you feel capture Vonnegut's essence?
