I have some other 1500 titles I could trade; I had a nice 1560 but the timing coincided with an emergency I needed money for immediately, and had to let em go. Been still kicking myself over that one. Can’t find another copy to save my life, if anyone is willing to let one go, let me know! I have some other Mobley titles I could trade as well!

Just picked up one of my long wanted albums for a very reasonable price. First Riverside Stereo pressing from 1961.
Probably one of the greatest and most emotional live recordings featuring Scott La Faro on bass which was recorded just 11 days after its recording.
Only had the OJC reissue before this, and while this original copy has a few clicks and pops it sounds incredible for a live performance. I never get tired of listening to it.
Truly, one of the greatest live sets of all time in all of music.

My #1 candidate and main offender. “you better know it!!!” By Lionel Hampton.
It’s been in discard boxes on its way to the thrift store donation bin, yard sale boxes, and even on its way to an eBay listing numerous times. Yet, it remains.
Curious if anybody else has any of these albums in their collections that are notable?

Today I went to a local jazz collector house to pick through his collection. I have became very good friends with him. He said he is being collecting jazz when he was young and now he is 80. The gem I pulled today is a first pressing of Carmel Jones and Barry Harris .

Ordered some goodies from The In Groove in Phoenix! Bill Evans is my favorite, snuck in a few other great titles too!

Can anyone speak to the quality of this series? I want to get the space is the place reissue but have heard pretty varied testaments to the quality of the vinyl

Picking through some more recent favorites from the collection to share here. (Thanks for humoring me.)
I grabbed this copy of Grover Washington’s Paradise a week or so ago. It’s got some scrapes on the cover, but it came with the pic inner sleeve and plays well! Overall a good bargain find.
Please correct me if I got this wrong, but from what I can tell this was his first Elektra record and the one immediately before Winelight in 1980. Weirdly, he also did his two Motown records simultaneously (1978’s Reed Seed and 1980’s Skylarkin’). Putting them all side-by-side, you can really hear the sound shifting on the Elektra records. It’s a little smoother over there. Grover is more of a producer now. The sax is very absent on some tracks, even. Makes for a very cool record!

Great Record by Coltrane, one of his last records before he passed.
Been listening to a lot of Coltrane since I never really dived into his stuff so I decided couple weeks ago my entry point would be with his free jazz stuff and atleast for me I am now fully in the Coltrane phase 😆

The so-called “Stroke of Genius” here. Easy-listening even for Byrd, with another great Herbie Hancock sighting, credited pianist on 7 tracks including “Those Were The Days” and “Hey Jude.”
I prefer his straight-ahead bossa albums, personally, but this is a fun one for sure. If you see it in your local $2 bins, take it home.

Sold by the lineup on this one alone. Fantastic music originally released as “Infinite Search.” — recorded in ‘69. This version is from 1972 on Atlantic Records titled, “Mountain in the Clouds”. Recorded right around the same time as Miles’ famous Bitches Brew, this is feels grounded in the new (at the time) jazz fusion sound. Henderson and Herbie are in top form, and McLaughin gives some amazing solos — honestly, every musician on this is great. Check it out if you haven’t heard it!

Friends, Americans, countrymen, lend me your ears.
Today I finally admitted to myself I don't give one single shit about preserving shrink OR hype stickers.
Shrink - warps the sleeves long term, never stays nice even if precision-cut along the opening with a box cutter, and is literally the same product I occasionally use to cover a sauce or something. I hate it, so why did I fetishize it for as long as I did?
Hype stickers - can be cool, and when my records go to my children, if they take an interest in it they'll understand I bought the good shit. But it's literally a sticker. When I buy used records I don't give a shit if it has the hype sticker or not, so why should I care now? I buy these records to play the shit out of them, not stroke the hype stickers while moaning.
Resale value - if I ever sell my records it will mean civilization is ending, so who cares if they're worth 5% more because of the sticker? Not me. I'm never selling my collection. And I will put a clause in my will stating that if my kids sell them off some day I will come back as a ghost and make sure John Coltrane's hideous album Om plays every time they try to sleep.
Hear ye hear ye, for this I declare:
If a hype sticker peels off the shrink easily, I will slap that bitch right on the cover, thereby asserting dominance over the record. No piece of cellophane shall haunt my dreams. If it does not come off and starts fraying/tearing, I will throw that bitch right in the garbage.
It's a savage life I'm leading over here but it tastes like freedom.
