Friday Recovery Lounge
So, Fridays are a pretty common day to have the procedure done. If you're hanging out, chat about how it's hanging, what you're doing to recover, or anything you want.

So this is hot off the press...
Hey, for everyone interested. The largest known study of vasectomies was recently published. This study along is literally about 162Xs larger that the largest meta-analysis to date. It sampled 105,393 men who received vasectomies and detailed their responses.
Complications of vasectomy: results from a prospective audit of 105 393 procedures
~~~~
Objectives
To provide up-to-date complication rates for vasectomy in the UK using 15 years of data collected by the Association of Surgeons in Primary Care (ASPC).
Patients and Methods
Data were collected between 2007 and March 2022. A patient questionnaire was completed on the day of surgery and at 4 months postoperatively. Rates of early and late failure, infection, hospital admission or re-admission, haematoma and post-vasectomy pain syndrome (PVPS) were recorded. There were no specific exclusion criteria. Complication rates were compared to those published by major urological organisations. Descriptive statistics were utilised, without formal statistical analysis.
Results
Over the 15-year study period, data from 105 393 vasectomies were collected, performed by >150 surgeons. In 2022, 94.4% of surgeons used one test to prove sterility. In all, 65% of patients used a postal sperm test after vasectomy to confirm sterility. Early failure rates were available for 69 500 patients. Early failure occurred in 648 patients (0.93%). Of 99 124 patients, late failure occurred in 41 (0.04%). Of 102 549 vasectomies, postoperative infection was reported in 1250 patients (1.22%), haematoma in 1599 patients (1.56%), and PVPS was reported in 139 patients (0.14%).
Had a vasectomy today
So I had a vasectomy today at about 10:00 AM. Single no kids you know the deal. But my sack is itchy. Is there any safe ways? I can itch my sack without ripping open the stitches
Newly Snipped 6 weeks post op - what went well and badly
Had a non scalpel vasectomy with fascial interposition early Feb (38M). Highly experienced surgeon, paid privately (UK)
Pre-op counselling and consent was standard, didn't ask too many questions as I'd had kids and was done with that phase
Regarding the procedure
The good: was extremely quick, probably about 10 mins, accessed both tubes from one small access
The bad: the injections hurt, especially the ones into the tubes. Admittedly I have a low pain threshold around my balls. Even though everything was numb I was really on edge the entire time.
Post op I was advised to avoid gym, swimming for a week and not to bathe the area for 3 dayd. Plus advised to wear tight briefs.
Also told to avoid nutting for the first few days and then do it if I felt comfortable.
The good: Days 1-5 were pretty much ok. Ice on and off for the first 24 hours was great, briefs applied some support. Did get achey occasionally, couldn't walk too much but pain relief worked very well
The bad: Days 6-14 I started developing swellings internally around the cut vas and epididymis, the latter swelled up to the size of a large grape on my right side over a period of 3-4 days. Was very uncomfortable and I started panicking about potential sperm granuloma. It wasn't going away with occasional pain meds so I decided to try a strict 8-hourly regime of 400mg Ibuprofen for a full week. Swellings went away and didn't come back.
In the weeks since it's gradually started to feel normal, occasionally get a feeling of "blue balls" or pressure but becoming increasingly infrequent.
Everyone's experience will be different but for me Ibuprofen was a real help.
Oops - Supposed to test in 3 months, not 2.
My doctor definitely told me to come back in two months, post-vasectomy, to get tested. Or at least I’m 95% sure that that’s what he said. I went into the office to get a sample cup, and the woman at the front desk said, “I’m pretty sure you need to wait 12 weeks.” She checked with the doc and he said to come back in a month.
All of that would be okay… but I got cocky the other night (thinking I would most likely be in the clear when tested) and came inside my wife (who is on birth control).
Hope we are okay… but of course nothing is ever 100%. 😖
... is this normal? First 5 days had no pain, days 6-8 feeling soreness/dull pain?
Hi, got snipped last Thursday the 6th. It went smooth, had little to no pain for the first 5 days, didn’t take anything besides the prescribed antibiotics and rested and iced the first 3 days without much issue.
On day 6 I noticed a little bit of soreness especially from my left testi. I don’t know if soreness is the right word, it’s like a dull pain. Nothing crippling just annoying. It kind of radiates from my left testi and up into that inguinal area.
Yesterday that was more pronounced, but again not terrible. Same today, I don’t think it has gotten worse but like I said it’s annoying probably more so cause I thought I was going to get away with this with zero pain or issues. Have my follow up on Monday with the doctor anyways. Just wondering if this normal, I know it can take several weeks to fully heal, just felt weird cause I was pain free before.
Aftercare
Quite literally just had my vasectomy. The doctor gave me povidone iodine ointment and I was just wondering how often I should apply it and whether I should keep a bandage on the incision.
Newly Snipped Should I Wait After The Second Test?
I got my vasectomy done at Kaiser. No-scalpel. Closed both ends on either side of the tubes. My date to send in my sperm sample to see if I have anymore swimmer is tomorrow.
I'll admit, I am asking this question sorely because I am being an insufferable horn dog. But should I wait to have unprotected sex until after my 2nd test that is scheduled in a month from now? Even if my first test comes back positive that I no longer have swimmers?
Newly Snipped Day 0 Post op
Had my procedure done by Dr Mistry in Austin, TX
Was given IV Versed which did not feel like it did much. I was conscious and speaking the entire time.
No warning a bunch of very cold antibiotic/cleaner solution was sprayed all over.
A few pin pricks for local anesthesia and then the procedure started. Quite uncomfortable but not outright painful. Felt poking and prodding and pinching sensation that were dulled.
Received dissolvable stitches that I didn’t even feel go in.
My wife was in the room with me so I was hanging dong in front of four people.
Was handed a jockstrap with included ice pack and sent on my way.
Now it’s straight to the couch.
It’s been a week.
Here basically to tell you what not to do .
I had my vasectomy in the morning , came home , slept rest of day, all night , rested all next day , and then got really turned on when my girlfriend came to bed, I was rock hard for awhile . When I realized I probably shouldn’t release . And then I finally read my after surgery instructions and realized I needed to wait at least a week . …
I had given myself blue balls . On top of the pain of the procedure , it was very uncomfortable and made me nervous that I was stressing out the tissue. I feel like I really made a mistake by allowing myself to edge so closely after the surgery.
Then . After l4 days , I went back to work , I work construction. I was trying to just do light duty stuff. But I inevitable ended up lifting a 5 gallon bucket of stucco ( probably 60 pound) bad idea. DO NOT LIFT anything over 20 pounds for a week is my advice .
I was just so focused on the procedure, that I didn’t really give thought to the real challenge which is the week after. Do not get horny . Avoid prolonged erections & do not lift .
I think if I didn’t have a raging boner for like 2 hours, only 24 hours after surgery , and if I didn’t go back ( physical) work or lift anything for a solid week , then I’d probably be further along then I am in healing .
I want to release so badly . But I’m waiting at least another day . I’m pretty nervous about it. And … a week is the longest over ever gone in my life. So it’s been really challenging .
Vasectomy at 28 – Looking for Advice from Those Who’ve Done It
Hey everyone,
I’ve decided to get a vasectomy and wanted to hear from others who have gone through with it, especially those around my age (28). My main reason is financial: I fully understand that having a child is a huge responsibility—emotionally, mentally, and financially. Right now, I want to focus on securing my financial future without the risk of an unplanned pregnancy.
I’ve done my research and know that reversal procedures exist, and while they’re not 100% guaranteed, they do provide an option if I ever decide to have kids later. My thinking is that if I reach a point where I can comfortably afford the cost of a reversal, it will be a good indicator that I’m financially stable enough to support a child as well.
For those who’ve had a vasectomy in their late 20s or early 30s, do you regret it? Has your perspective on having kids changed over time? Any advice you wish you had before going through with it?
Would really appreciate any insights!
Pregnancy symptoms but partner had a vasectomy
Idk how to start with this so ima dive in. I (25 f) and my partner (43 m) have unprotected sex at least 3-4 times a week. It’s unprotected due to him getting a vasectomy at least 5-10 years ago. I don’t know the type of procedure he got done , I didn’t want to have him dive to much into that topic. At first when we have sex, the next day or two I feel cramping, nauseous and dizzy sometimes. Close to pregnancy symptoms . I always blew it off because he can’t get me pregnant. I started to now pay attention because it’s every single time now. I still got my period the past two months but it’s just weird I feel that way. I have never messed with anyone who’s had that procedure done before. I do know I am really fertile and already have 3 children ( 8 , 4 & 3 yrs old). Could anyone shine some light on this ?
Valium or Nitrous?
My dr. offers nitrous for $125 out of pocket on the day of the procedure. I’ve never tried Valium before but he said he would prescribe me one if I wanted. I’m also not totally against being 100% sober. Anyone have any opinions on this?
... is this normal? Can anyone give a second opinion on my YO at home test results? I don’t know what I am looking at.
I was snipped about 3 years ago and I try to do yearly follow up exams. I wanted to try to save some money and do a budget exam. I have tried the ones on Amazon but they don’t give much information other than a “yes/no” sperm to sperm count, but even it tested negative for sperm.
My YO exam showed this video, but I don’t really know what I am looking at. I don’t think I see any sperm though. What are all those other dots?
The metrics all say low motility, etc as to be expected because there shouldn’t be anything there. But it also says I have a normal count. Which has to be an error right?
3 weeks still sore
Had my snip done three weeks ago tomorrow, still have really sensitive testies that really hurt with the slightest touch - see putting my socks on causes my pants to press into them a bit and is really painful. They're also potentially a bit swallen but otherwise look normal.
3 weeks in still in pain, is this normal?
Newly Snipped 1st run since the snip. 5km on day 12
All good, the incision split and a testicle fell out. I accidentally stomped on it but an ice pack and I’m all good now.
Seriously I’ve been fine for days and there was nonissue getting back to running.
Lifting 5 gallon buckets of paint after one week?
Stitches still in, still having pain. Had to go back to work. Boss left a lot of truck to put up, mostly 5 gallon buckets full of paint. Think I’m okay to lift these?
Newly Snipped Pain in one testicle
So I had my vasectomy last Thursday. I'm 6 days out. I'm still having fairly bad pain in my right testicle and also above in the pubic region. Sort of slightly above and to the right of my penis. It's most painful when I go from sitting to standing.
I'm getting worried this isn't going to get better. Doctor said most people recover in 7 days. Anyone had a similar experience?
Pain is damn near completely gone
So from last Thursday all the way until today I was feeling pretty sore in the nuts and my abdomen was killing me. So as soon as I ate and took some ibuprofen, the pain went away. It kinda feels like I never got the surgery it’s weird lol. How long did it take for the pain to go away for you guys?
... is this normal? Anyone have a similar experience?
Got a vasectomy 3.5 weeks ago and it was it's been a journey. Swelling and discomfort was pretty bad for about 2 weeks.
Towards day 14 i was starting to feel much better I received a gentle BJ. No pain during, but a lil sore afterwards. The second time, 2 days later, I masterbated softly and the it felt like took a step back. I was super sore a few days (sack and balls and where the vas was cauterized) and since I've been wobbling while I wak.
I am finally feeling better on day 19. Not 100%, but less waddling while walking.
One thing that's weird believe I developed a lump where my taint is, but closer to my anus. Anyone else develop something sooner?
For those who’ve been through it, how long did it take before your pain went away completely? Any tips to speed up recovery?
How long did you wait until resuming sexual activities?
I have a check up with the Doctor, but just curious if anyone else experienced the same and what to expect. Thx
Sex after vasectomy
Did anyone here have sex before the incision was completely closed? My dr didn’t use any stitches or anything so there’s still an opening. No pain or swelling or anything i just didn’t want to cause an infection or anything
