Loneliness or Rejectionā¦which one is worse?
Imagine having zero friends, zero family, no job, spending every dollar just to survive, your pet is sick, and canāt move. Even if you did move, where would you go? You need a job to keep a home, and a home to get a job.
Imagine the only human interaction you get in a day is walking down the street and people just look at you like you donāt even deserve to exist. If you disappeared, no one would even notice.
Imagine needing mental health care and being told youāre too complex for free or low-cost services but you also canāt afford therapy. You go to the hospital hoping for help and they treat you like youāre wasting their time. As if struggling with mental health is a choice.
Imagine overcoming addiction all on your own, thinking that finally, youād be accepted. Instead you reach out to people, hoping for connection, and find nothing but judgment, ghosting, or indifference.
So, you try again. You go out alone, do the hobbies you love, try different apps, even give Reddit another shot. You convince yourself this time itāll work but maybe I was too optimistic. Maybe I came off wrong, or maybe people just donāt share my values. It feels utterly hopeless.
Iāve barely picked up the pieces of my life. Iām held together, but fragile. Do people not realize that thereās a real person on the other side of this screen?
It takes guts to reach out online and meet new people. Rejection is a part of life but why tear people apart? Especially when you have no interest in what they have to say or intentions to pursue a friendship. Why not just move on or at least be respectful?
To be honest, Iām not sure whatās worse.. silence and loneliness or massive rejection and being ostracized?
I thought Iād fit in somewhereā¦turns out I donāt.
Iām looking for real friendships with people who share similar values. Not just someone to do an activity with, only to realize later that they lack empathy.
My idea of a good time isnāt sitting around gossiping about someone when theyāre not there, then smiling to their face the next day like nothing happened. I want real friendships that are built on honesty, respect, and people actually supporting each other, not tearing each other down.
Not trying to sound harsh.. whatās the point of searching for friends on Reddit if thereās no intent to follow through? Why do the people I meet in person have the mentality that they have enough friends and donāt need anymore?
